5/5 starts this was the book I needed to pull myself out of the slump I was in ! I loved all of the twist and turns I got mobster mixed with police mixed with teens who grew into adults! the book started off fast and didn't slow down! u feel in love with the characters . I loved the names they felt right and felt like the felt the different settings! the book gave mystery, spicy and also a tiny bit of horror to me and I loved every second if it !
I really enjoyed the short and alternating views that these chapters held. It made the book hard to put down when you see you only have a few minutes each chapter to read. I did enjoy this book a lot. I went in blind and so it may have taken me a bit to get on board but I was well and truly invested about the halfway point.
Such a wild ride! Alex Finlay is rapidly becoming a favorite of mine. His intricate plots have all the twists and turns you'd hope for in a great read, as well as truly likeable characters that you root for, including some bad guys. I highly recommend this thriller!
The twists and turns were impressive. Such a good story with many connections. This is my first book by the author and I will be reading more. Adding this to a book club sign up.
Thank you @netgalley for the ARC of If Something Happens to Me by Alex Finlay.
This is a fast paced unputdownable thriller. There are so many twists and turns and each chapter leaves you wanting to turn the page and find out what happens next. It’s told from multiple points of view with separate stories that intertwine.
Ryan Richardson and his girlfriend Alison are attacked in their car. Ryan is knocked out and when he wakes up, Alison is gone. Although nothing is proven, he lives under a cloud of suspicion in her disappearance. Five years later, he sees the man who attacked him and the pieces of the story start to come together.
This was a great thrilling suspense that I couldn't put down. It's hard to say much about this one without spoiling it, but it is a really well written plot. I could see it as a movie. When the story shifts from Part 1 to Part 2 it's a very satisfying plot twist/reveal.
This story really makes you think - the "bad guys" have a real reason to be and the "good guys" may not be really good. It made me pause to consider what lengths we go to protect our children. It's definitely not a happy book and as a mom of teens, I was sensitive to some parts. But it was a brilliant plot and story. Thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
This was a very fast moving story. From page one it’s action and doesn’t stop. You may think you know where the story is going, but you have no idea. An abduction from the beginning that will set everything off. Multiple pov’s that will keep you interested. Liked it from the start.
A gripping psychological thriller filled with mobsters, good cops/bad cops and innocent people on the run. Twists and turns await you throughout the action packed pages.
High school sweethearts, Ryan Richardson and Alison Lane are suddenly ambushed one night when they are parked at Lover’s Lane, leaving Ryan with a crushing blow to the head and Alison missing. Amid allegations of his involvement in her disappearance, Ryan changes his last name and enters law school. Five years later, Alison’s submerged vehicle is raised from the bottom of a lake with two dead bodies in it and a cryptic note that somehow is still in tact. So begins this suspenseful tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat til the final page.

Thank you NetGalley and Minotaur for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of If Something Happens to Me.
This was my first Alex Finlay book, and I’m officially a fan!
Fast paced, brilliant plot! Each character was developed in a way that kept me reading all day to find out the ending of their story!
Thanks to St. Martin’s press for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is one of my favorite Alex Finlay books. It drew me in right from the beginning and kept me engaged. Plenty of twists and turns that take you all over the world and through time. I really enjoyed how the storylines intertwined and were brought together in the end.
thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the advanced readers copy of Alex Finlay's If Something Happens to Me. THis is a interesting thriller, with a lot of twists. The book felt reminiscent of Gilian Flynn's Gone Girl in terms of the direction of the story starting in one direction and then bam! It completely flips on you. That was actually quite enjoyable.
In many ways, the book follows standard plot devices - with chapters rotating between three sets of characters. Sometime I find that approach is getting tired, but this one seems to work. An enjoyable read. And a satisfying end. Worth the read. Should be a good beach read this summer.
Woohoo!!!! Alex Finlay has wowed me yet again! I LOVED this book!!! It kept me on my toes, turning the pages with a gleeful smile on my face! This is how you do it! Anyone picking this book up to read is in for a treat! If Something Happens to Me is gripping, fast paced, shocking, perfectly plotted and kept me on the edge of my seat. I had no idea what I was getting into when I turned the very first page, and I loved every second of it.
A young teen is bullied at an elite school and the aftermath leaves his parents devastated.
Five years ago, Ryan Richardson was at lover's lane with his girlfriend, Alison, when suddenly a man opened the door yanking him from the car. Alison and her car were never seen again. Everyone thought Ryan was responsible but with no proof he has been able to move on even though the court of public opinion still believes him to be responsible. He has now moved on and while in Italy with his law school friends, he gets a call from his father informing him that Alison's car has been found.
Poppy McGee had just started her job as a deputy sheriff when a car if found. Inside is an envelope which reads "If something happens to me." She is up for the challenge and throws herself into the investigation and will stop at nothing until she gets some answers.
Wowza! This book was a well thought out, well written, fast paced page turner! It also has a nice amount of shocking twists and reveals. There are quite a few characters in this book, but it was easy to keep track of all of them. I loved how Finlay brought everything together in the end. Paths will cross, answers will be sought, tensions will rise, and readers will be left amazed. Finlay blew me away with this well thought out, well written and thrilling book.
Highly Recommend.
TW: bullying, violence
"If you're seeking revenge dig two graves- one for your enemy and one for yourself."
What a ride! Yes, revenge is a double-edged sword and this latest book by Alex Finlay is a shining example of what can go wrong when families vie for revenge. I was hooked by the end of the prologue and could not put this book down! Finlay has an art for creating multiple story lines that converge for a cohesive story. The story is told in several points of view including Ryan, a new deputy sheriff (Poppy), and a mobster (Shane O'leary). How these story lines connected was a masterpiece.
While Ryan and Alison, high school seniors, are spending some time on Lover's Lane, Alison is forcefully abducted and Ryan is knocked unconscious. Ali disappears and Ryan fights hard when he is considered a suspect. Five years later her car is found and the intense plot thickens and the fast-paced show begins! There were multiple jaw-dropping twists! We never know who we can truly trust!
I highly recommend this book for an entertaining read!
Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Alex Finlay for this ARC!
The most thrilling story I have read in a long time. When I read a thriller, I want the heart pounding, mouth open, scared out of my wits. Alex Finlay has delivered. The characters, the plot, the action all combine into an unputdownable read!

I LOVE Alex Finlay, and don't get me wrong -- this novel was highly readable; I flew threw it. The writing keeps you enthralled. But of all of the Finlay books I've read, this is probably the one I like least. Mostly because, I don't really feel interested or engaged with organized crime/mob boss plotlines. The excessive violence lost me. I'm not sure about the ending either -- will there be another book?
Ryan is at lovers lane with his girlfriend Allison when she is abducted and never seen again. 5 years later and halfway around the world, Ryan is led to believe Allison is still alive. Wow! Twists and turns from the start right up to the end. The story is told in multiple POVs and fluctuates from past to present until you get the clear picture of what’s really going on and how it’s all connected. I couldn’t read fast enough! Alex Finlay has shot up to one of my go to authors for a great read.

Another good book by this author, I am glad I found him. Our story actually takes place five years after Ryan's girl friend Allison is kidnapped while on a date with him. Although it can't be proved, everyone is sure that Ryan has done something to her. While he is in Italy with some kids from his law class, new evidence comes to light, and we learn what actually happened. The story is set in three different places, Italy, Kansas and Pennsylvania, but the connections soon all come together. The story also moves back and forth during those five years without warning, so sometimes it can be a little confusing. All in all a good story and I want to thank ST. Martin's and NetGalley for giving me a chance to read it.
Another great book from Alex Finlay!! I was so excited to get an advanced copy of this book, and it did not disappoint.
This story is told by multiple narrators, and it really kept me guessing. I couldn't figure out how the pieces fit together until clues started falling into place. I was able to figure out the last surprise ahead of the reveal, but so many other things were kept cleverly under wraps.
I thought the Taylor character was really well done. She was conflicting, but she showed personal growth. Ryan was a classic good-guy. Poppy was a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed Chaz's chapters. All around, great characterizations.
Thanks to Net Galley for the book to review.
4.75 stars.
Alex Finlay really knows how to write a thriller that will keep you guessing up until the very end. I'm always impressed by his ability to weave together so many storylines and characters into something that makes sense.
This book was full of so many twists and turns that even when I guessed a plot twist it still surprised me.
This book follows a cold case and the events both preceding and following it. I thought all the characters were super interesting and I really enjoyed all the settings this book took place in.
There was no moment while I was reading this book where I could guess how it would end but looking back it all tied together so well. My least favorite twist in thrillers is the unreliable narrator/when the author intentionally misleads you and this book did not have it which is a win for me.
If you're looking for a crime thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep surprising you, I definitely recommend checking this one out.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the ARC!
Wow, what a wild ride of a thriller! I've come to expect no less from Alex Finlay. The book begins with a flashback where we learn Ryan's girlfriend, Ali, was kidnapped right in front of him. It's years later, and this whole time, everyone has thought he's guilty, utterly destroying his life as he knew it. He changed life paths, even changed his name, trying to move on. But a summer trip abroad is interrupted by the news Ali's car was found, and that more clues to the case have emerged. Ryan soon after sees the man he thinks took her, and gives chase. This wild ride of a book is in multiple POVs which I think is very difficult to do well--but Finlay does it! Five stars from me.
