IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME by Alex Finlay ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 A fast paced thriller that I couldn’t put down and binged in a day! The multiple POVs were especially good in this book because you can’t quite figure out how they connect until later in the story. This book is filled with dynamic characters and leave you unsure who to root for until closer to the end! Full of crazy twists, this one will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first to the last page!

Five years ago, Ryan’s girlfriend is abducted and he is left unconscious and not knowing what happened. Ryan has done his best to build a life and put the past behind him. That has been working until he receives a phone call that his girlfriend’s car has been found. Now things are happening all over again.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the chance to read this arc in exchange for my honest review
The descriptive settings to the well-developed characterizations made this book an exciting read. The viewpoints alternate between Ryan, a law student ,who was with his high school girlfriend when she was abducted five years earlier, Poppy, a young deputy sheriff., and a mobster who is holding a grudge. The locations span from Kansas to Italy to France, with a strong action-packed story.
Once again Alex Finlay proves why he is my favorite author.

Another great read from Alex Finlay. I couldn't get through this one fast enough. There was lots going on and it was all very interesting and tied together nicely. I love the cover. This is one of those books where I can't put into words how good it is, just go pick it up - you won't regret it!

Ryan has never quite recovered from the night his high school girlfriend, Alison, was abducted while they were parked in her car. He still has only hazy memories of what exactly happened, which has only fueled suspicions that he was responsible in some way. Five years later the car is found in a lake, and there's a coded note inside from Alison that starts with "If something happens to me..."

I was not a huge fan of Finlay's last book (What Have We Done), but I enjoyed The Night Shift and Every Last Fear enough that I still consider him an auto-read author. This one fell in the middle for me -- the setup was SO GOOD, the action was compelling, and I loved how all of the characters intersected (no details for no spoilers). I don't tend to love books with mobster characters, so I think that's where things fell apart for me a bit. That said - existing fans will love this, and I can see this being a HUGE hit. It bridges the action/thriller gap, and I think it's perfect for an escapist vacation read, even for people who don't usually gravitate to reading murdery thrillers (like I could imagine recommending this to my husband who has read exactly zero thrillers).

Another excellent read from Alex Finlay, as expected. I zipped through this one, finishing it in two sittings (would have finished it in one sitting if I didn't have to sleep!) Very fast paced, with lots of plot twists that I didn't see coming. I loved how each of the seemingly unrelated stories at the beginning of the book connected - in a way that I didn't expect at all. Fantastic read, 5+ stars!

Wow this was some twisty thriller. I like Finlay's books but this one read different for me and I really enjoyed it. There were twists and turns and unexpected alliances. This is the story of a car that's pulled out of a lake with two dead bodies inside. The car belongs to a girl that went missing years ago. She's not there, two others are. Who are they and how did they get in the car? and where's the dead girl?

it's a wild ride you're sure to enjoy.

I literally could not put this book down! And here’s where I went wrong: I started it at about 10:15 on a Saturday evening. #idiot #iknow

…and after telling myself to stop and go to bed, still proceeded to read until 3am, only to snag a few hours of sleep before picking it back up bright and early with a giant cup of coffee to binge-read the last 25%. 😳

WHAT. JUST. HAPPENED. 🤯 This is one of the best thrillers I’ve ever read. I didn’t know who to root for—the good guys? The bad guys? These characters are just 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 good that you can’t help but feel something for each of them.

Read this if:
✨you’re all about that just-one-more-chapter vibe
✨you love a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat suspense thriller with action that never.lets.up once it starts
✨you appreciate strong characters and a well-flushed out plot
✨you geek out over multi-chapter epilogues because you just can’t.get.enough.

I think it’s safe to say that David Ellis’s blurb is spot on: “One of the best thrillers of the year.” I happen to agree—this one takes the top spot for me as I wrap up 2023– and I will definitely be picking up a hard copy for my permanent collection! 𝑰𝒇 𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑯𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝑴𝒆 hits shelves May 28, 2024!

Alex Finlay has become a go-to author for me and easily one of my favorite writers in the thriller genre. His newest novel, If Something Happens to Me, is a fast-paced and masterfully plotted narrative that weaves together several seemingly separate storylines. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out how the author brilliantly brought them all together. This was my last read of 2023 and definitely one of my favorites.

Ryan has relived the night of his girlfriend’s abduction for years. Her car had more be found in his hometown lake with a note.

The book switches between different points of view with almost every chapter leaving you wanting more. Go read this book!

4.25 stars out of 5!

Wow, this was a fast paced thriller that draws you in immediately. I could not put this book down and ended up reading it in a few hours. There were so many pieces to this story/puzzle and they all came together nicely in the end. All the characters had great development and were well written. One of my favorite things about the book is how it is written in different POV's and everything is connected. This was my first read from Alex Finlay and I was impressed! The author is extremely talented and I am excited to read more from him.

The book starts with Ali and her boyfriend Alex visiting a place called Lovers Lane. Ali ends up being taken from her fathers car and Ryan was hit on the head then pulled from the car. Everyone thought Ryan was the one who had taken her but he insisted he didn't. Overseas on a school trip, Ryan sees the man he thinks he remembers from that night Ali was taken. It startled him and also set off a chain of events. Is Ali alive? Back home in Kansas, Ali's dad's car is found in the lake with 2 dead guys in it. They also found a cryptic note Ali left for Ryan in her purse in the car. Ryan thinks Ali is alive but is she safe? How do the 2 dead guys fit in? The story is a wild ride!

If you are a fan of fast moving, action packed books with short chapters, this book is for you! Great read!

I may not have read this if I knew the bad guys would be wise guys. Mob stories don't appeal to me the same way crimes of passion or a good reliable sociopathic murder. It seems so pointless, a crime without remorse, guilt, or joy, and distills a human life into nothing resembling humanity. That said, this is a good yarn and I stayed home all day to finish it.

This is Finlay’s best yet! So good and kept me guessing the entire time. I couldn’t put it down! I will be recommending it to everyone. He’s a talented writer for sure!

This book just may be my new favorite Alex Finlay story. What a gripping, twisty, and edge of your seat book. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I was proven wrong! In the best way possible! I will be getting a copy for myself, and one for our library once this is released!

Thank you so much NetGalley and St Martin’s Press

5 years ago, Ryan and his girlfriend were attacked. She was abducted and never heard from again. Some people thought Ryan was responsible.

Now Ryan receives a call from his dad to say that her car was found underwater. There’s a note in there that says open if something has happened to me.

I’m such a big fan of Alex Finlay. What I really loved about this book is that there are so many unexpected pieces that somehow come together at the end to solve the puzzle. This story was so good and I was hooked instantly. All of the characters are written well, and their complexities really make the story. Great read!

If Something Happens To Me by Alex Finlay

My rating:
4/5
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When a local teenager is abducted, the town is left with many questions about how and why this happened. Told in multiple points of view, the story comes together to tell the story.

The first couple pages of this book absolutely hooked me! I had no idea what this one was about because I blindly requested this one because Alex Finlay is an auto request author for me. This one did not disappoint! The pace of this one was fantastic and the short chapters made this a breeze to get through.

I loved how this book was told in different perspectives and how it is revealed at the end how everything is connected. I especially loved the deputy Poppy’s POV.

The true reasons I didn’t give this a solid 5 was because I am not a huge fan of action books. I also got lost with the multiple characters, but I blame my brain for that one. For both of those reasons, I do not fault the author. Those are just my person reasons why I didn’t rate it higher!

I would absolutely recommend this one if you like an action packed thriller with short chapters told in multiple POVS!

Thank you netgalley and St Martin’s press for the ARC! You will definitely want to add this to your TBR for when it comes out in May 2024!

Alex Finlay delivers again. This book sucks you in and spits you out feeling completely bamboozled by everyone involved! Poppy is a star and I loved every minute!

Ryan and Ali are in her car on Lover's Lane. It is pouring rain when the door is yanked open. Ryan is hit in the head and Ali is kidnapped. Ali has never been found and everyone thinks that Ryan has killed her. He has to change his name and is now attending law school. He is on a school trip to Italy when his past comes roaring back.

This is an exciting thriller. What has happened to Ali? Is she still alive? The mystery takes place in a small town with secrets. The mob is also involved. This book is a wonderful read. If you like Alex Finley or thrillers you will enjoy this book.

Thank you to #NetGalley, #AlexFinley, #MinotaurBooks for a copy of this book.

This book was from the get go, captivating - and it didn't let go until the very end. I enjoyed the multiple character stories and how they came together. It's a very fast read, perfect to get lost in for a couple of days.
