Thank you for a preview of this title by one of my favorite authors. I was so excited to receive it and this did not disappoint me! The story starts with young lovers Ryan and Ali parked at a Lovers Lane type spot one rainy night and something terrible happens..and Ali disappears. Ryan has spent years trying to establish his innocence and get over losing Ali, who has never been found. Meanwhile, we have a new young Sheriff in town, some evil mobsters and some other loose ends that I couldn't wait to see how it all connected, which the author did so well. This is a hard to put down mystery that follows many storylines, characters, settings and has a satisfying ending that left me surprised. A great thriller that I think will be a big hit in 2024.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

This is told from various different perspectives, including those of Ryan, whose girlfriend Alison disappeared 5 years ago and who was suspected of involvement, and Poppy who starts work as a deputy sheriff just as Alison's car is discovered in a lake wth two dead men in it. There are other perspectives and different timelines and the narrative was a bit complicated, although it did come together in the end.

I found the writing style a little YA and bright and breezy which clashed somewhat with the level of violence and body count, and I didn't feel the characterization was particularly strong. I think this was not for me, but I can see others enjoying it more.

Another Alex Finlay thriller another 5 stars for me. This starts right off with a bang and doesn’t let up. I was questioning how things all tied together but that was short lived as Alex did a phenomenal job making it make sense.

Thank you #stmartin and #netgalley for an early copy.

This one is another home run for Finlay . He gets better with each book . This was another fast paced thriller that keeps you guessing till the end . He knows how to write a book and is becoming in same league as Coben and Connolly .
Thanks for letting me review the book to Netgalley and the publisher

5 years ago, Ryan was the high school basketball star, had a beautiful girlfriend, Ali and was excited for the future. Until, one night, he was hit over the head and Ali was taken with no trace of her left behind. Suspicion held over him, he gets a good lawyer, changes his name and tries to move on with his life.

Flash forward to now, a car with bodies and a letter from Ali was found at the bottom of a lake. Ryan gets a call from his dad while on a trip in Italy. While there, Ryan gets a visit from the man who has been in his nightmares, the man who he thinks took Ali.

Meanwhile, in Kansas, a new deputy sheriff is helping solve the case of the car and how it connects to Ali. In Philly, a mobster has a misfortune of his own.

It may seem like a lot is going on but WOW does everything come together so wonderfully. I read this book in 3 sittings and want more. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The twists and turns are amazing and every detail is solved by the end. This was fast paced and will grab you in quickly! So well done, a 5 star read for me!

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this great read. Alex Finlay has done it again. This books was so fast paced...whip lash city! I enjoyed it so much and the short chapters made it so hard to stop reading. This book will for sure keep you up late. I really do not know what to say other than if you like the first two novels written by Alex Finlay and his 3rrd was not one of your favs, this one to me is back to his work that I enjoy ( the third book What Have We Done was okay but not like the other 3 for me) . Thanks again!!

Leaving a spoiler-free review for this book is going to be one of the hardest things I have ever done.

I went in blind on this one because I have loved every book Alex Finlay has written and I have zero regrets!

Ryan has been suspected for Ali's disappearance for the last 5 years. When new evidence is found, the deputy sheriff (who knew Ali and Ryan in school) is charged with weeding through the tips coming in. She ends up getting way more involved in the case and eventually crosses paths with Ryan to get to the bottom of things. The question is, who can they really trust?

There are several side stories going on. The moment when they all click together? Absolutely jaw dropping. Dirty agents, the mob, military buddies, law school friends....so many moving parts that somehow fit together seamlessly. If you haven't pre-ordered, you should!!

Thanks for the advanced copy and the thrill ride SMS, NetGalley, and Alex Finlay!

Finlay’s breakout novel, Every Last Fear, was my introduction to the author and is still one of my favorite thrillers. While I’ve enjoyed his other books, none of them have had the same magic as Every Last Fear. Thankfully, If Something Happens to Me came incredibly close!

I love Finlay’s twisted plots and fast paced writing but I think my very favorite thing about his books are the characters. Even though this is a darker thriller full of crime and plenty of bad guys, the characters (for the most part!!!) are decent people. Sure, they all are flawed and have made plenty of mistakes but the majority are good people at their core. Even the mob boss is an incredibly devoted husband and father. It’s just so rare to have so many nice people in this genre.

If Something Happens to Me was a great story with plenty of twists I didn’t see coming. I loved the time the characters spent in Europe and the relationships and friendships they kept over the years. A few bits were maybe a tad outlandish but overall it was an action packed story that I couldn’t put down!

First of all, thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The first 2 of Finlay’s books made him an auto-buy author for me. Then his third book was released and I hated it. If Something Happens to Me is his 4th, and while I didn’t hate it like the last one, I also didn’t like it. It was very predictable in a boring sort of way, and I wasn’t invested in the story line or any of the characters whatsoever. And of course, the mafia was involved. Why wouldn’t it be? If the mob had been included in the book’s blurb, I would have skipped reading it entirely.

Overall, this had the makings of a fantastic story but it fell very short from its description. I think it’s time I remove Finlay from my auto-buy list.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of If Something Happens to Me by Alex Finlay, published by St Martin's Press, Minotaur Books.

I really enjoyed this novel,  told from different points of view, lots of characters, but well described and easy to remember who is who. I loved the plot, twists and turns and keeps you guessing till almost the end. Didn't take long to be involved and then I didn't want to out it down. The writing style makes it so easy to keep going
The novel starts out as if a few different stories are happening and as you get into the novel, you can see how all the characters start to fit together, loved it! Awesome mystery/thriller.
I've read one other book by Alex Finlay and loved it also. I will definitely keep reading his books.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of Alex Finlay's newest thriller, If Something Happens to Me. This is an unpredictable, unputdownable, original story that will have you holding your breath until the very last page.

Several stories are interwoven and the connections are revealed in Alex Finlay's signature style. A teenage girl is kidnapped and presumably murdered at Lover's Lane and her boyfriend has only a blurred memory of a possible suspect. A well-known mobster's son kills himself after being brutally bullied by his vicious classmates, and the family is determined to get revenge. A rookie member of the Kansas police force is pulled in different directions and has to figure out which sources she can trust, even in her own house.

4.5 stars

Wow, Alex Finlay never fails to give us a fantastic story. This one gave me whiplash. Holy cow, it really hit the ground running. At first I wasn’t quite sure where we were headed. It’s seemed as though there we 3 different stories with maybe a tiny thread, but to watch that thread connect was such a pleasure.
This book unfolded and finally connected so wonderfully. I think this one may be my favorite of his to date, maybe, they’re all so good it’s a hard choice.

Ryan Richardson is out with his high school girlfriend Ali when he is suddenly ripped out of the car, hit on the head and left at the side of the road. When he comes to Ali and her car are gone and he has no idea what has happened. Although there is no evidence Ryan did anything wrong everyone in town has their suspicions.
Five years later Ryan is in Italy on a college trip and he finds out that Ali's car has been found submerged in a lake but there is still no trace of Ali. However a note is found in the car stating If Something Happens To Me.
This book is so twisty and fast paced. I flew through it and could not recommend it enough. Alex Finlay is an auto buy author for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for a copy of this book for review.

I have only read one other Alex Finlay book, the Night Shift, but I am adding them all to my TBR. It’s fast paced and short chapters make this an enjoyable read. And the twist! He got me for sure and it all came together about halfway through, then he pressed the gas and kept going! Thank you so much for the ARC! Easy 5 stars!

Never a bad book from this author. Was a stellar read. Many characters to keep track of but we'll written that it was easy to keep track of what was going on even with the different views per chapters going back and forth. Would highly recommend this book.

Thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an early release of this book.

Alex Finlay and “If Something Happens to Me” gets a big five stars from me. I adored almost every character, and this thriller was a refreshing take on the current thriller genre. Didn’t see where it was going until it was neatly tied up for me, a must read.

I love how all of the pieces fit together in this story. There's a moment when I felt a satisfying click and realized what one story had to do with the other. It's a brilliant plot and reminds me of the multiple moving parts of a great movie or show like Fargo.

If Something Happens to Me For stars Ryan Richardson, a man haunted by the disappearance of his girlfriend when they were teens. He has finally moved on and is in his final year of law school when a mysterious man approaches him. At the same time, in the hometown he fled, his girlfriend's car from years ago is found in the lake. What the police find, lead by the fascinating Deputy Sheriff Poppy and the alternating story of the O'Leary's only adds complexity and depth to the story. Alex Finlay always surprises me with the action and the adventure twists but I love the personal touches that he adds that pull you in so your invested in the characters. His books are always as exciting as a blockbuster but much more substantial and fortifying. I try to read the story slowly to savor but it's truly an up all night kind of tale! #Ifsomethinghappenstome #stmartins #alexfinlay

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books for the copy of If Something Happens To Me by Alex Finlay. Talk about a book I couldn’t put down! The disparate characters and stories were all compelling and I couldn’t wait to see how they all came together. There are a lot of characters, and near the end I still couldn't keep some of the minor ones straight. Of course the writing was stellar and drew me right in. I loved the story and the reveal of how the characters were related to it, but then the book took a turn and really focused on mobsters. As much as I loved most of the book, the ending was just ok.
