Could very well be my favorite Alex Finlay book so far! I could not put it down!!
His usual intense and suspenseful. I appreciate the short chapters with cliffhangers.
The first few chapters I was a bit confused how these stories all came together, but in the end they are fabulous. While the three storylines were so different at first, each one kept me fully engaged! This one certainly surprised me at several points, and I fully enjoyed every second of this read!

Reading this was so bingeable. The pacing is just right that you get hooked even after just the first few pages! This is my second book by him and he’s definitely becoming a favorite!

For true crime lovers, this reads as if you’re watching an episode from any true crime show so I highly recommend you read it if you love the genre!

Basically we have Ali and Ryan. They were hanging out in a car at their town’s Lover’s Lane when all of a sudden some random guy abducted Ali and left Ryan alive. The car was also nowhere to be found. Making Ryan to be the prime suspect of Ali’s disappearance. He got acquitted but his reputation got tainted (thanks to social media) so he had to leave their hometown to escape all of it. Fast forward to five years since that day, the car suddenly appeared with 2 male dead bodies with it and a note from Ali titled “If Something Happens to Me”…

This is told from multiple POVs that is so effective with how the story flows seamlessly. You do have to pay attention because there is a lot of characters 😂 I did listen to this mostly on audio and I was able to follow it easily!

It has short chapters and fast pacing so definitely a bingeable read!

I swear if you love a good detective, police procedural, cat and mouse thriller, you have to read this!!

This was my first Alex Finley book and they did not disappoint! I look forward to reading more by this author.
I enjoy time jump books and this book did it well. Not too choppy or confusing.

I love each of Alex Finlay's novels and If Something Happens to Me is no exception. From the characters, to the pace, to the story lines, to the very end, Finlay has a remarkable skill for captivating readers and keeping us glued to the page. While I was able to make the connection early on, it in no way diminished the pleasure novel's unfolding. I also appreciated that Finlay did not fall for a predictable romance trap -- which by avoiding, the author added to the complexity of the characters' relationships and development. I highly recommend!

One ight on Lover's Lane turns into a missing girlfriend and a thriller that spans the globe as years later, Ryan races to find the truth about what happened to Ali.

Finlay has a killer knack (no pun intended) for setting a brutal pace in his books and If Something Happens to Me is no different with a breakneck pace that keeps the reader on their toes. Thriller readers, pick this one up, you'll definitely love it.

I really enjoyed this one and read it in a couple of days. I recommend this one if you like thrillers, multiple timelines, multiple povs, romance and alot of drama. There is a lot going on in this book but I think it was still easy to follow if you like lots of different story lines. The only reason for not being a five star is the ending isn't what I wanted. It was a great wrap up to story but I wish it would've been different. I think others might enjoy the ending. I definitely want to read more from this author!

This story begins with two people out for a drive and talking about a future, then everything goes black for Ryan, and his girlfriend is missing along with the car he has no idea or memory of what happened and where Ali is. Now years later with a name change and in law school and on a summer vacation in Italy his life is again taken over by that night. The car is found with two bodies inside and he receives a note at one of the stops he was at, he wants to know what happened. The author takes back and forth past and present which keeps the story flowing and slowly answers will be revealed. It is an excellent book with excellent characters.

I knew from the first chapter I was hooked! Another great book by Alex. Definitely recommend.. with this book I don’t want to to give anything away!

Loved this book. It was the perfect mix of intrigue and suspense with dual time lines. I read this in 2 days. I had to find out how the multiple story lines were connected. Well done!

Back home in Leavenworth Alison’s car is found submerged in a lake with the bodies of two men inside. Sealed in a waterproof bag is a note from Alison written in code to be deciphered if something happened to her. Deputy sheriff Poppy McGee is new to the police force. She and her brother Dash were in school with Alison and he knows something about the disappearance, but without the key to the code Alison’s fate remains a mystery.

Alison’s disappearance is tied to events that took place in Philadelphia. Anthony O’Leary was bullied to a point where he took his own life. With Ryan’s and Dash’s help, Poppy finally discovers the truth of what happened five years ago. Alison’s return leads to a final confrontation where not everyone will survive. This is a story of revenge and hidden identities. Anthony’s story is heartbreaking and his bullying is disturbing. It sets off a series of murders from Philadelphia to England and France before an edge of your seat ending back in Leavenworth. No, it's not perfect. Yes, there are some plot holes you can drive a truck through. But this thriller was so much fun! I usually go back and forth between books, but I spent the day reading on the stationary bicycle, while grocery shopping, and then finishing on the couch. I could not stop because I was so engaged with the story and the characters.
Even though it's not necessary to like the characters in a book, I liked several of the characters here, and I even found some of the bad guys compelling. It was also a lot of fun traveling around the world as the plot was finally coming to light, and you could tell that the author was familiar with traveling to these locations. When I finished, I was satisfied with the resolution but excited that there are more books by this author I can look for now! Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

This book had me hooked from the very beginning! It's fast-paced, with short chapters that makes it easy to keep reading just that little bit more. The multiple storyline and alternate POVs makes this an entertaining mystery/thriller. Highly recommend.

I had the best time putting together the puzzle pieces of Alex Finlay’s latest release, If Something Happens to Me, live today!

Similar to Finlay’s previous works, there are a cast of characters and how they are connected to the story is given to you in small pieces. While the story fleshes out over time, the anxiety is amped up in If Something Happens to Me with increasingly concerning events occurring to each of the characters. We have Ryan, a former basketball star, Poppy, a novice Deputy Sherriff, Shane, a protective father and mobster, and Michael, also protective father and accountant. How do they fit? You have to read to see.

The story centers around Alison, a young woman who went missing five years prior, and the domino effect the case has had in our four central characters’ lives and the community they live in. Finlay manages to really flesh out the characters and each of their stories, with no rushing chapter to chapter and a really well done overlap that allows the reader to connect the time and places. There’s quite a lot of action, violence, and questionable character thoughts, but it kept me engaged from start to finish.
This one is truly a 5 star unputdownable read and an excellent addition to Finlay’s collection.

I am really liking Alex Finlay's books! It's a great plot with a twist and very well written. The characters are almost all likable, especially Poppy. She seems kind of endearing and yet pretty bad-ass too.. Ryan is a sympathetic character and his law school classmates are a surprise especially Eddie, Ryan's roommate. It may be that the plot is kind of standard in the 'white girl goes missing' way but the writing and the characters make this an out-of-the-ordinary read.

I loved this book! I have loved all of Alex Finlay’s books so far and I was very excited to read this one. It did not disappoint. The twists and turns that I thought I had figured out, blew me away. Across countries, across years! The time twist really threw me and I had to stop to recap and digest before continuing to read! I finished this in 1.5 days!

This book was fantastic.! The characters were easy to relate to.. I could feel their pain!
I loved the dual timeline.. the full background on the situation was KEY to understanding what happened.

Kudos for an immersive and inventive read! This was a fun ride with suspense at every turn. My only issues were lots of characters to keep straight and the various timelines could be a tad confusing. If Something Happens to Me by Alex Finlay is my first book of theirs, and I now want to go and ready more of the backlist! A twisty thriller that was full of surprises. Five years ago, Ryan was pulled from the car where he was parked with his girlfriend, Ali, and he never saw her again. What happened to Ali? And why is the case coming back to the surface now?
I recommend this to fans of twisty thrillers featuring missing persons and surprises along the way.

IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME by Alex Finlay is a mystery story with more violence than the ones I typically read, but it was a LibraryReads Hall of Fame selection for May and I am glad that I was intrigued and picked it up. Alison Lane and Ryan Richardson are high school sweethearts until something does in fact happen and Ryan becomes a leading suspect in Alison's disappearance. That happened in Leavenworth, Kansas five years ago, but early in this mystery story readers will also meet characters from a Philadelphia crime family, students in rural Italy, and former soldiers who served together in Iraq. Finlay cleverly braids the tales and definitely keeps readers guessing with many unexpected twists. IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME is an action-packed thriller which received a starred review from Publisher's Weekly ("As in Finlay's previous novels, relentless pacing, impressive characterizations, and the author's knack for surprise combine to produce top-shelf entertainment."). 4.5 stars
