I enjoyed this book and I loved the pace of it. It did seem like a little bit of a far fetched story but it was a quick read.

Thriller writer Alex Finlay does not disappoint in his newest novel! Ryan and Ali are high school kids out on Lover's Lane in Ali's car when Ryan is knocked out and Ali and the car disappear. Ryan is the only suspect, but hrs never charged. Fast forward 5 years and Ryan has changed his name and is in law school when the past catches up with him.

This book, told in multiple POV moves at break neck speed through multiple locations around the world. There are also multiple plot lines, and I had no trouble keeping up. If you've read Finlay before, you know what to expect. If you haven't, what are you waiting for?

My thanks to Minotaur, author Alex Finlay, and NetGalley for gifting me a digital copy of this book. My opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. This was such a fun thriller. I binged it within a day, and wow! Told through 3 different POV. Grab some popcorn because this is a fun one.

If you've read other books by this author, you know that there are going to be multiple plots, alternating perspectives and short, addicting chapters. That holds true with this one. It was a rollercoaster and it was fun!

I have been a big fan of Alex Finlay novels. IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME has a good plot and short chapters that keeps the reader unable to put the book down. I did find that I had to slow down a bit and go back and start a character sheet.

My favorite character was Poppy whe is hired as a deputy sheriff when she returns to her hometown. She is immediately thrust into a mystery when a car is pulled out of a pond. Five years before, Ali was on a date with Ryan. While parked, a man knocks Ryan out, and Ali and the car disappeared. Ryan was originally under suspicion. Ryan went on with his life. Five years after this happened, Ryan is in law school and traveling to Europe with fellow students. Things start happening…..

I found out quickly that I needed to keep a few notes on characters and their relationships. I did enjoy this thriller and think it would make a good mini-series for one of the streaming channels. My thanks to St. Martin’s Minotaur and NetGalley for an ARC of this book. The opinions in this review are my own.

Please. Read. This. Book. Alex Finlay is on my list of auto-read authors and this book did not disappoint. Dare I say this might be my favorite book of his to date? The short chapters keep you engaged the whole time, and the multiple POVs is well written, and really adds to the story.

Ryan Richardson has, for the past five years, relived the night when his car door was ripped open, he was pulled out and received a crushing blow to his head. He also remembers the scream of his girlfriend Ali when she was dragged away. The car and Ali were never found, and suspicion fell on Ryan. However, there was no proof that he was complicit in that night's drama, plus he had a good lawyer. Ryan changed his name and entered law school. While on a trip to Italy with his law school classmates, he receives a call from his father: Ali's car was found submerged in a lake in his hometown, with two dead men inside. Ali isn't there, but there's a note found with her handwriting, stating "if something happens to me"... He's stunned, but it gets even more bizarre. A man makes his presence known to Ryan in Italy...the same man he's dreamed about for 5 years. Ryan begins his search for the truth through Tuscany, a rural village in the U.K. and Paris. He has no idea that the answers may be found with a mobster in Philly who also suffered a tragedy, and a young sheriff's deputy working her first case in Kansas.
This was a fun crime thriller from Alex Finlay. I have really enjoyed the variety in his novels and they are all well written as well! He’s slowly becoming a must read author for me. Thank you NetGalley and St. Martins press for an arc copy.

This is my first read by Alex Finley and it was a good intro to his writing.

Multiple POVs weave this story together to create a multilayered and quick pace story. I enjoyed this read although I felt like something was missing. From the POV of Ryan, it was a little weird to me how he found the pinky man but perhaps I missed something in the beginning. His reasoning for following Allyson's killer made sense but how he just left Nora without an explanation seemed a bit out of character.

My other concern was Chaz and how he just decided to deviate from his retirement and then his story ended abruptly. I think the final chapter was unneeded in a way.

I did enjoy the Michael story line as it showed what he would do to protect his daughter and keep her safe.

Thank you NetGalley for the book in exchange for an honest review

First I want to thank NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and Alex Finlay for my ARC of If Something Happens To Me.

This was my first Alex Finlay book and it definitely did not disappoint! I finished it in 2 days because I couldn’t put it down! I love the short chapters and the multiple POVs. This one was an exciting read with twists, turns and great characters. I love how every chapter was left as a cliffhanger but because of the multiple POVs you had to keep reading to find out what happens next with that character. I would 100% recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast paced mystery/thriller who wants a good book with lots of twists! You won’t regret this one!

Alex Finlay does it again! If Something Happens to Me is a perfect Mystery and Thriller. I loved all of the different perspectives and thought that every single character really added to the story. The twists and turns were perfect. I was happy that I was able to predict some, but was also still shocked at the one's I wasn't able to predict. Everyone please read this book!
Thank you Netgalley and St.Martins Press for the ARC!

Something Happens To Me kept me company on my solo road trip from Vermont to Ohio this past weekend. What a terrific companion! The prologue immediately grabbed my attention, and Finlay's methodical plotting and clever use of mini cliffhangers at the end of chapters produced an incredibly entertaining story!

The story features a large cast of characters, yet the full cast narration makes the story easy to follow. Overall, I’m pretty impressed with the character development. Typically, I expect fast-paced thrillers to be mainly plot-driven, which was true in this case. However, I could also empathize with the characters' pasts, emotions, and inner struggles, including those of the villains, satisfying my craving for my character-driven elements.

Other highlights: short chapters (bonus for binge-ability), vivid setting descriptions from various places around the world, Finlay’s conscious effort to explain harmful mental health language - bravo!

Bottom Line: If Something Happens To Me is highly entertaining, with a fast-paced plot and well-developed characters. The story includes numerous twists and turns (some I guessed, others I did not) and a satisfying conclusion, making this book an ideal choice for a thrilling summer read!

Thanks to Minotaur Books for gifted access via Netgalley. All opinions below are my own.

A young girl goes missing with no leads. Her boyfriend is a key suspect but he swears they were attacked but has little memory of the incident. Years later he has moved on but the incident haunts him. When her car is found submerged in a lake, he is in Italy and believes he's seen the man who attacked them. Several storylines weave together as a new investigator joins the case.

I liked the short chapters and the seemingly unrelated stories that come together in what, was for me a surprise. I did not see the twist at the end of part one coming… or the one in part two. I liked that I was caught off guard and yet it seemed wholly plausible. I also really liked the pace, it started off as a measured crime story and became a more pacey thriller by the end.

When Ryan’s high school girlfriend comes up missing, he is the prime suspect. As he grows older, he changes his name and even goes to law school. He tries so hard to stay incognito. So, when her car is found in a lake and two unknown male bodies are discovered, Ryan’s world implodes.

Ryan has always been in love with Ali. So, he knows what he must do when a deputy sheriff from Kansas reaches out. And let me tell you…the surprises just keep coming.

This book keeps you on your toes. There are so many ways this story could have unfolded. My brain was going a mile a minute with scenarios. I love when an author keeps the story twisting and turning. This tale definitely does that!

The narrators, Helen Laser; John Pirhalla; Paul Dateh, are the absolute best! I have said this before and I will say this again, I absolutely love a production in an audiobook!

Need a good thriller which will keep you guessing…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today.

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

This is my first read by Alex Finlay and it did not disappoint. This book is filled with suspense, thrills, twists and absolutely 100 percent kept my attention. It has love, mystery, monsters, deceit, and more. There are short chapters, which I LOVE! It is told from multiple POV’s in three sections.

Ryan Richardson is a high school basketball superstar with the perfect girlfriend, but on one fateful night, his girlfriend is ripped from his life and taken from him. Fast forward to five years later, Ryan is trying to move on with his life, when his girlfriend Ali’s car is found submerged in a lake in his hometown, with not one but two dead male bodies in it and a note that says if something happens to me…Ryan, detectives and more are trying to figure out what happened to Ali and why there are two dead men in her car.

I would pick this book up if you are looking for a quick and thrilling read. It was so easy to complete and I didn’t want to put it down. I liked the different perspectives, even though at times, it seemed like they could never be connected. There are some aspects of the book that seemed a little unbelievable but if you can see beyond them, you will love this book! Thank you to NetGalley, St Martins, Minotaur and the author for for the opportunity to read this book. My opinions are honest and my

Alex Finlay has definitely earned his position as one of my favorite authors with If Something Happens To Me. If he writes it I’m going to read it.

We start out meeting Ryan whose girlfriend went missing years ago from Kansas and a mob boss from Philadelphia. How the heck are these stories going to tie in together? I don’t want to go into it too much for fear of giving it away. But just know it was an exciting wild ride. The moment I found out how these stories related and wove together- my jaw dropped. This was an unputdownable!

If Something Happens to Me is my third Alex Finlay thriller, and they keep getting better and better. The Prologue sets the story in motion as two recent Leavenworth, Kansas high school graduates, Ryan and Alison, appear destined for a night of romance before heading off to separate colleges. A sudden downpour sends them racing from their blanket back to Alison’s dad’s BMW, both drenched and with a mixture of disappointment and relief. Back in the car, she pulls her t-shirt over her head, the car door rips open, Ryan is hit on the head and thrown from the car. The next morning as he regains consciousness, he finds the car and Alison gone.

Finlay divides eighty-four short chapters into three parts with Part 1 consisting of chapters 1-45, Part 2 of chapters 46-72, Part 3 of 73-79, and the Epilogue of 82-84. Part 1 alternates between three settings, beginning in Montepulciano, Italy five years after Alison’s disappearance as Ryan, a first-year law student with a changed last name, lives in fear of his fellow vacationing law students learning his true identity. Chapter 2 and 3, set in Leavenworth, introduce Poppy McGee on her first day as new deputy sheriff. It also introduces her brother Dash, their ailing father, and Sheriff Ken Walton, who had served in Iraq with Poppy and Dash’s father. It’s to be an eventful first day on the job, with a sudden discovery related to Alison’s disappearance five years earlier. Chapter 4 shifts to Philadelphia as two men in a boat seem to be having a fairly normal day, talking about their sons, until the final few sentences take a dark turn that promises future trouble.

As Part 1 continues to alternate between Italy, Leavenworth, and Philadelphia, readers find themselves trying to piece together the connections between the various locations and characters. By the end of Part 1, readers come to know a few facts unknown to certain characters and find themselves in the position of watching those characters try to figure things out. Part 3 continues to heighten the suspense until bringing the book to a close in the Epilogue.

Nearly every chapter ends with a cliffhanger, causing readers to keep turning pages to find out what happens next but often needing to read several chapters set in another location with different characters before resolving the latest cliffhanger. The result is a page-turning experience likely to keep readers up late into the night.

Thanks to NetGalley and Minotaur/St. Martin’s Press for an advance reader copy of this captivating new thriller from Alex Finlay.
