I have read a few Alex Finlay books before this and they all have the same thing: several POV that seem super disconnected, and you can't seem to figure out how they will wind up together, then BAM the proverbial mix drop and it finally makes sense. (This is not a bad thing)

This book was good, interesting, but widely unbelievable. The ending just seemed too easy, too simple, too un real, (but I mean its fiction so there's always some level of disbelief)

Thank you to netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fun pallet cleanser thriller. I loved all the different povs. I did not guess the twists. This was the first one by this author me and I enjoyed it. The ending was tied up a little too nicely though

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy! I’ve loved most of Finlay’s books and this was no exception! The characters kept me interested from start to finish and the plot twists kept me guessing. What more can you want in a mystery/thriller? I very much enjoyed it and would recommend! I’ll be looking for the next one for sure.

Wow I really enjoyed this book! Part 1 was written so insanely well; really kept me on the edge of my seat. I will say that part 2 and 3 were a little confusing to me at times, but I still really enjoyed. This book did a really good job of ending each chapter in a cliff hanger, and making you want to keep reading. I read this in one sitting!

Definitely a must read for all thriller lovers this summer!!

I've enjoyed all of Alex Finlay's books, so I jumped at the chance to read his newest one. And I have to say, this is one of his best. If you enjoy fast paced thrillers, with a few twists sprinkled throughout, you must add this one to your TBR list.

Ryan is five years out from the worst night of his life, when his high school girlfriend, Alison, is kidnapped and he's left knocked out cold - and as the number one suspect in her disappearance. He was never charged, but always under a cloud of suspicion, and in an effort to put the past behind him has moved away and changed his name. On a college trip to Italy, his nightmare returns when he sees the man he saw on that awful night and chases after him, through Paris and England.

Meanwhile, Alison's car is found submerged in a lake in Kansas, near the spot she was taken from, and a brand new Sheriff's deputy is assigned to the case. She starts digging and discovers that there are so many mysteries and secrets surrounding it. She is a bulldog that is determined to crack this case, no matter what she discovers in the process. As if that's not enough, other chapters are told from the viewpoints of a mobster in Philadelphia and some of the people in his world. It's difficult to see how all of the different stories will braid together, but I thoroughly enjoyed the ride to find out. It is fast paced, fun, often dark, and I always wanted one more chapter...ok, maybe three more. If only life didn't get in the way, I could have easily read it in one sitting.

This was a thoroughly entertaining read, and I love that I didn't figure everything out ahead of time. One twist had me literally gasping with surprise...but then it also made sense in retrospect. There are quite a few parts near the end that require the suspension of belief, which is the only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars. Still, such a good book, and I can't wait to read whatever Finlay writes next.

4 1/2 stars for this fun read, and a huge thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read an ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

4.5 stars

Wow was this one so good!! I’ve been craving a fast paced thriller did a while and this one hit every box! I loved the short chapters, multiple pov, and multiple twists. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars was the ending - it felt like it was wrapped up too quickly and neatly.

Could not put it down! I’m not usually into mob/mafia scenarios in books but thankfully the book wasn’t consumed by it. Thriller, love story, revenge, Witness Protection Program, and a father who would go to the ends of the earth for his daughter. What more could you ask for?

This is such a great popcorn thriller! I quite literally devoured this book in 24 hours, it was that page turning!

We follow a few different POVs, one including a detective, where we are trying to figure out what happened to a missing girl. The twists and turns this book takes and the short chapters make this truly bingeable. I didn’t see the twists coming and man they kept on coming all the way up to the end of the book. There was one POV toward the end and during the epilogue that simultaneously made me cry, smile and shock me.

I really like THE NIGHT SHIFT by this author but this book definitely takes the cake as my favorite from him so far.

Ryan Richardson still relives the night when his girlfriend Ali was kidnapped and he was knocked out. His life changed that night when everyone in town thought he killed her.

Shane O'Leary is dealing with a tragic event and in true Mafia fashion he seeks revenge.

A car is found submerged in the local lake and two dead bodies are found in the car. It brings back the case for missing girl Alison Lane. Poppy McGee has just started as a deputy sheriff and she has her work cut out for investigating this cold case.

Halfway through this book I was wondering how all of the characters connected. Then they did and I was left 🤯 with shock and awe. I had to reread the page just to wrap my mind around it. Once I started this book I could not put it down and finished it one evening. This book is told in three parts with quick chapters. I really enjoyed this book and will be thinking about it for quite some time.

Just wow!! This was so dang good. I love me a fast paced thriller with short chapters.

This book is filled with everything you could want in a thriller - murder, abduction, mobsters, revenge, cryptic messages, international travel, potential serial killers with a sprinkle of romance!

If you read this you will most likely be hooked right away and binge it in one sitting.

Thanks to the author, NetGalley and St Martins Press for this this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

This is a gripping thriller/suspense that had me from the very beginning. The story is told from multiple POV to keep you guessing. I found all the characters very interesting and enjoyable to read their stories. I picked this one up immediately after listening to EVERY LAST FEAR which was written in the same style and also a great read. Alex Finley is recently new to me but I intend to keep reading more. Highly recommend this one

I was fortunate to receive this ARC from NETGALLY, thank you for a wonderful book.

I finished this one a few days ago and have been processing the story before reviewing. My initial assessment holds true - five stars just isn’t enough.

I had theories on what might happen as I read. And I was close on a few of them. But for the most part, I could have never predicted the twists and turns this book gave us.

I felt like I was reading a puzzle - in the absolute best way. The entire time I read, I was trying to piece together all the characters and events and make sense of them. If I hadn’t felt so compelled to keep reading, I could have assembled an intricate “murder board” with all the clues we were given along the way. That would be a fun enhancement for a special edition. I would love to see that as an introduction to each new chapter showing what has been divulged thus far and slowly assembling it and compiling all the clues until we have the full picture at the end!!

This book should be pictured with the definition of ‘thriller’. I loved every ‘WTH’ moment and devoured this story. This was my first book by Finlay, but it will not be my last.

If you enjoy a fast paced thriller with multiple timelines, locations, and characters that are expertly woven together throughout the book, then you absolutely cannot miss this one.

Thank you so much for the wild ride!!
Amazing story.
Go read it. Now. You’ll thank me later!

If Something Happens to Me opens with two teenagers at a Lover’s Lane meetup, a rainstorm spoiling their fun. Disappointed, Ryan and Ali head back to Ali’s dad’s BMW, where Ryan is knocked unconscious, and Ali and the car vanish, maybe for good.

Where did she go? Why? And is she still alive? A hair strand links Ali to a local serial killer, but with only that single detail to go on, the court of public opinion demands further proof.

Ryan changes his last name, tired of being suspected for what he didn’t do, and attempts to move on with life in law school. He’s abroad when Ali’s dad’s car gets dredged from the local lake with two male bodies inside and no sign of Ali other than a coded letter from her that only Ryan can decipher.

The clues lead him to France, where he faces old enemies and his first love. Can Ryan and Ali have their happily ever after? Does he even still want that? New love complicates things.

Alex Finlay’s riveting thriller features clever characters, including mobsters, a reluctant accountant, and teens making bad decisions. The inexperienced Poppy McGee handles the complicated investigation that spans multiple timelines and countries. What really happened to Ali is deftly revealed in chapters told from several points of view.

I couldn’t have guessed at the twist. Brilliantly plotted, paced, and flawlessly written, If Something Happens to Me is highly recommended for fans of Showtime’s thriller Your Honor. Thank you to NetGalley, Alex Finlay, and Minotaur Books for the ARC.

If Something Happens To Me is a fast paced, non stop action packed bingeable thriller. There are multiple storylines that truly don't quite connect together, until they all do and let me tell you it was explosive. It was such a fun ride, it kept me hooked, intrigued from start to finish.

I thought the storyline was super interesting. It truly keeps the reader interested. All the chapters were super short and snappy, that makes for a read that you can't put down and just keep flipping those pages until the end.

Was it the WOW thriller factor I was expecting.. no.. that first twist truly got me, I wasn't expecting it so when the ending just neatly wrapped up in a bow, I just wanted a final blow. Nonetheless, it's a super fun thriller that is definitely worth the hype and the read.

Ryan was part of a horrible event five years ago and when things calm down, he relives it. His girlfriend Ali was violently taken from the car they were sitting in together.

Ryan was the prime suspect in her disappearance but was never charged. He’s tried to move on, but he’s been unsuccessful.

When he’s on a college trip abroad in Italy, he gets a call from his father, Ali’s car has been found submerged in the lake in his hometown. Inside are two dead men, and a cryptic note from Ali.

Then, in a twist of fate, Ryan sees the man he saw that night, all the way in Tuscany. This sets forth a cat and mouse chase across the UK as Ryan tries to figure out what really happened to Ali all those years ago.

This was such a fun thriller! I loved the premise so much because it was within the realm of probability that sometimes gets lost in thrillers. Alex Finley always manages to weave a tale that is propulsive and twisty, and this one was no different. The setting of Tuscany was idyllic and just lovely, and the flash back chapters also painted a wonderful atmosphere. This is one of those books that is perfect to dive into with a clean slate, I don’t do this often because I am not a patient person, but in the case of Alex Finley I always make an exception because it is always worth it. I was very engaged in this story from the start to the ending, which I was blown away with.

If you are looking for a truly engaging and layered thriller, then you need to read this one!

This was a great, globetrotting thriller. I’ll admit the twists were anticipated be me but that didn’t distract from the joy of reading this. I love Alex Finlay’s books and they will continue to be must reads for me.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for this ARC on return for my honest review.

A fast paced thriller. Loved the quick chapters! I did guess one of the big reveals but for the most part I was surprised by how everything turned out. Very enjoyable.

This book is a trip.

With three intersecting stories Finley has a knack for intertwining all of the bits and pieces that seem random in one moment, yet become a critical piece of the overall mystery. Finlay has crafted a story that is filled with layers of detail and intensity that grab your attention.

Written in a fast-paced manner, this book is one I could not put down! You will be drawn into the story from the very first page. If Something Happens to Me is an addicting read!

This book is intense and gripping and filled with unexpected twists, secrets, action, and an awesome ending. The best of 2024 read for me!!

If Something Happens to Me by Alex Finlay was a fast-paced thriller-esque novel, and I really enjoyed it (and buzzed through it quite quickly). It felt more like a mystery with some thriller elements. The story and characters were well developed, but I did feel like the surprises were fairly easy to spot early. Even so, the writing was great. Appreciate the advance copy and will continue to look for more Alex Finlay books in the future.

What a thrilling page turner! The short chapters with multiple POVs perfectly weave together the twisty storyline. I was hooked from the beginning and whipped through it pretty quickly. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because there were no jaw dropping surprises, but I still really enjoyed this book and highly recommend picking it up!

Thank you NetGalley and Minotaur Books for the ARC in consideration for my honest review.
