Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher/author for providing me with an ALC in exchange for my honest review.
This book was exactly what I wanted it to be! I loved it. I will make sure to check out other books by this author. When I requested this I was just intrigued by the concept of it and I loved how it turned out. This story had a great plot and if you have read this and enjoyed it, This was so much. It was such a great story. I would say give this one a try. I will continue to follow this author. Way to go to this author for not letting me down.
I highly enjoyed the narrator of the audiobook. Kept me listening.
This is another dystopian fiction for your teens. Any reader who enjoys seeing people fight evil in a post-apocalypse will want to add this to their reading list. The narrator in the audiobook was pleasant to listen to and I would listen to other books narrated by them.
I loved reading this series through! I loved the first two books the first time, but reading the second book was a bit difficult since it'd been so long, remembering all their names. But this time I got to go back to back to back, and that was so great!
With each book, things grow. The first book ends up being freeing Avalon from the cures that it was under. The second book was dealing with opening back up and the bad guys building up the threat that the pose. And the third and final book is dealing with them once and for all!
This series is very much about social justice, which was both satisfying and not-because it happened, and because it rarely happens just as well in the real world, which sucks. But that, alongside some really great representation, and funny banter makes this series so much fun for me to read!
The whole quest to find these various objects was really cool, to go to different places, explore different cultures and mythologies, as these places and objects were of pretty important value, that's why they were picked to hold the pieces of the bad guys' soul. And boy, did they have to keep their wits, there was some tricky puzzles and dangerous situations afoot!
All of these characters have prophecies (Though West has the best one of just getting married) that throughout the series, start to come to pass. I loved watching how they dealt with them, to have them work out in their best favour, there were some very clever paths taken! And it all wrapped up in the final battle in a very satisfying way-in that not everything ended happening, at least on these pages! It was all jst so fantastic to read and I loved where we left them!
This series was just so good and I loved reading it, and I can't wait to read more by Rin Chupeco!
The World's End made me cry, a few times actually. It's an emotional end to a series that perfectly balances humor, heart, and a perspective of the way the world could go and has gone - with a magical twist. Full of a variety of magical worlds, creatures, and stories The World's End is a must read for anyone who's read the first. It revolves around this central topic, but one that is resolved int his book, about sacrifice. What will we have to sacrifice to save the world? Cassie Simone did a phenomenal job at the accents and the somberness in this audiobook narration, just like in An Unreliable Magic.
The World's End by Rin Chupeco [they/them] is the fine installment of the A Hundred Names for Magic series that artfully combines Filipino culture, queerness, and fairytales into a lovely book perfect for all ages.
Once again we see Rin taking the fairytales we know and love and interweaving them with culture and history in a spin on modern Fantasy.
This was a phenomenal way to end the series and I had an absolutely spectacular time in this world and with these characters. It was really lovely to be able to see my culture on page.
Thank you Dreamscape Media, Sourcebook Fire, and NetGalley for the ALC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Dreamscape Media, Sourcebook Fire, and NetGalley for the advanced electronic audio review copy of this great book. I enjoyed the conclusion to this alternative history fairy-tale series. Same well-written, diverse set of characters, fast-paced action, and imaginative combination and connection of well-known myths, legends, and fairytales into seamless storytelling that made for a fun and a very enjoyable read. Looking forward to sharing it with my students.
I requested the audio ARC of The World's End by Rin Chupeco, not realizing that it is the culmination of a series I have not read. I enjoyed it immensely anyway. The banter between characters, fantastical creatures, and frequent references to modernly known shows, books, and fairy tales were all delightful. I -maybe- would have liked less magic poop, but the book was a joy.
