Every now and then I find myself being misled by the back cover. This book promotes itself as a scientific examination of human consciousness.. Garbage. What little science to be found is half-understood and poorly applied scientific jargon. This is new age, eastern mysticism with a thin, a very thin, veneer of intellectualism masquerading as respectable reading. Avoid this trash like the plague.

A really interesting but very in-depth analysis of the very abstract concept of consciousness. My favorite chapters were also the longest: the ones covering psychedelics and religious experiences.
