A cleverly crafted thriller that I was not able to put down. I loved the characters especially Jay.
Many thanks to Blue Pacific Media and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
The book takes you on the journey that is the life of Jay Sutherland. A USMC veteran. He is now a district attorney. The youngest ever to be in New York.
Telling the start of Jay's life the author has got the raw emotion across to the reader. The mental and physical abuse he suffered as a child. The loving grandfather that took him in. Grounded him. Showed him what family really was. It also set him on his path to what he is now.
His time in the forces and his crusade to rid the streets of the underbelly people who blighted his early life.
Adam Lewis has done a fantastic job in introducing Jay to us. I hope there are more books in the pipeline to turn this into a series
Thank you to the Adam Lewis and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this advanced reader's copy. This book was fast paced and certainly kept my interest. This twisty legal drama does certainly give some John Grisham-esque vibes. I appreciated the early character development, which made following along the main character's evolution that much easier. Definitely would recommend!
I loved this book.
Such great well written story giving his life from a little boy to a soldier to a man..
It makes you think about regardless of what’s happening you can always do better and goals are achievable.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book
*content warning: this book contains a LOT of swearing, death, gun violence, mentions of rape*
Jay Sutherland had a terrible childhood - raised as his father's punching bag, neglected by his mother and staring at a future of no hope. Until his grandfather arrives and rescues 9-yo Jay from the hellhole of his life.
Determined to impress his grandfather and live up to the faith that was put in him, Jay grows up and joins the Marines until he is injured in active service, before pivoting his career to law and cleaning up the streets of New York - starting with the big crime bosses.
I can't give away too many spoilers, but let's just say things come full circle as the opening scene is the culmination of the events in the book.
This is not my usual sort of book, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It was every bit the gritty crime story you'd expect, broken down into three vignettes of the hero, Jay's life: childhood, the Marines and as a lawyer. Jay was the typical hard-nosed kid from a rough upbringing with a hankering for revenge; Benedict was the typical hiding-in-plain-sight villain. This was vividly written, with lots of visceral, descriptive passages. It had a very open ended ending, which leave the possibility of this becoming a series.
Some of the phrasing and structure seemed a bit jarring to me, but I did receive this an ARC, so hopefully those are resolved in the final publication copy.
Overall, this was a fast-paced, enjoyable read. Recommended for fans of Tom Clancy, John Grisham
~ Many thanks to NetGalley, Blue Pacific Media and Adam Lewis for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review~
A big thank you to NetGalley for this ARC of Twisted Fate, along with my hope for many books to follow by Adam Lewis featuring Jay Sutherland.
This new novel, by a new author, was filled with carefully created characters on both sides of the love-hate aisle. Jay Sutherland the son of ne’er do well parents, saved by his grandfather, rises from adversity to a successful career. All that is in jeopardy as he takes on a foe he only thinks he knows.
This was a great, readable journey that I thought was going in a completely different direction a couple of times, but it took a turn and all the pieces merged into a cohesive and believable read. It surprised at how well everything was pieced together. Hopefully there are more installments to come.
A wild ride of a book, especially part three. I really enjoyed this read , it was a great page turner. I felt that it was very well written and the plot was super easy to follow along even as the layers piled on. I’ve had family sent over there, so to have somewhat of an insight on what they experienced was comforting. Overall, a great read and I highly recommend it !
Jay Sutherland was abused by his mother's boyfriend for the majority of his first decade of life. His grandfather rescues him and changes his life.
Decades later Jay Sutherland is the District Attorney in the same area where he was abused.
Twisted Fate is 353 pages; there isn't filler in this book. It moves right along.
I do feel that I am rounding up to 5 stars, probably between 4 and 5 stars. There are a couple language choices that I wish the author had picked different words in a couple places. (The author contacted me and explained my concerns. Kudos! Changing back to 5 stars.)
Thank you to NetGalley for introducing me to another "new to me author". Thank you to Blue Pacific Media and NetGalley for approving my request to read the advance read copy of Twisted Fate in exchange for an honest review. publication date is 01 Mar 2024.
Twisted fate by Adam Lewis. Publishing date of March 1,2024 via Blue Pacific Media.
I will admit having not read any books by Adam Lewis I wasn’t sure what to expect. This one did start a little slow for me but much to my surprise it wasn’t picked up rather quickly. Jay Sutherland had a rough start to his life, born to a broken mother who used drugs and alcohol to dull her pain of just existing and her son often would be the brunt to that pain. Very dysfunctional family at its finest and this story just shows you that a person can turn their life around and not become become what they were born into. While there were many twists and turns the story did grab me and kept me interested page after page.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this one early in the exchange of a honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and Blue Pacific Media for the copy of Twisted Fate by Adam Lewis. I seem to be in the minority here, but this book was a tough read for me. The writing made the book difficult to stay engaged with because of the stilted dialogue that rarely used contractions and the sentence structure was often awkward. The use of the F word was excessive and not needed. The story was a good idea, but there was too much background detail, when the real story wasn’t fully explored. Sorry, this was a miss for me.
This book grabbed my attention from the very beginning. It is well written and easy to follow.
The characters are well developed early on and gain depth as the story continues.
The storyline is exciting and the real action and suspense really takes off in Part 3. Phew, what a wild ride! Highly recommend this book!
First I want to thank NetGalley, Blue Pacific Media and Adam Lewis for my ARC of Twisted Fate.
This was such a good debut book! I found myself so invested that I just had to keep reading! It definitely was a page turner. This was a great read and hopefully there is more to Jay Sutherland! I look forward to reading more from Adam Lewis. :)
Adam Lewis’s debut novel “Twisted Fate” is a page turner that I finished in just one day. I usually don’t read this type of book, but once I started, I was completely invested in the main character, Jay Sutherland. Jay had had a very rough start in life, and like many others like him, he could have gone down a completely different path. But thanks to several people who showed enough that they cared, he became a man of substance. With his grandfather as his role model, he set his own standards high, and he believed in justice. It was time for him to settle the score.
I do hope this is the beginning of a series because I would like to see a lot more of Jay Sutherland in the future. Many thanks to Net Galley for an ARC of this book, and my opinions are my own.
Early John Grisham vibes with this clever thriller, which takes you into the legal world and leaves you wondering who the good guys really are. I found the main character compelling and the easy writing style made for an immersive reading experience.
First and foremost, I would like to thank NetGalley, Blue Pacific Media, and Adam Lewis for providing me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. This book drew me in hard and fast. The author takes you on a journey through the main character’s life that is so raw and emotional that you can’t help but to feel as if that character is a friend.
I was brought to all emotions while reading this book (in 2 days mind you). I was happy, sad, angry…. I sure hope that there are more books following Jay Sutherland in the future. I definitely want more.
Enjoyed the book immensely wasn’t drawn out ,shed a tear , Couldn’t put it down , had to find out the ending good ending ❤️
Page turner!
Honestly, it usually takes me a week to read a book, but I read Twisted Fate in a single sitting. The story takes you on a journey with the main character and really draws you in. The book is believable, the characters are real. The tragedies sting and your heart rejoices at each victory.
The Author ties everything together well, and unlike some other books in this genre, nothing feels contrived or forced.
I closed the last page with a smile and was left wanting more.
