“Madison Kate Danvers was murdered tonight.”

Those words changed my life, and not for the better.

They were wrong, of course. I wasn’t dead. But I was set up.

After being charged with a string of offences--and made an example of by my political minded father--I’m eventually released back into Shadow Grove with one thing on my mind.

Hate.

Someone is going to pay for derailing my carefully laid out future. Someone is going to catch the full force of my hate. How very convenient that someone just moved into the bedroom down the hall from me.

Archer D’Ath and his boys messed with the wrong chick and they’re about to learn just how cold Madison Kate’s hate can run.

I saw all the great reviews of this and I just didn't get the hype. Don't get me wrong it wasn't horrible. Maybe if I try the next book I'll be able to get into it more?

Hate by Tate James was a great read. Dark romance with a lot of tension and some great twists. The chemistry between the characters kept me hooked, and the cliffhanger got me. Overall, really enjoyed it.

Thank you to @netgalley and @sourcebooks for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

"Hate" by Tate James is a captivating and addictive debut in the reverse harem genre. I devoured this book, captivated by its intriguing premise, sizzling chemistry, and engaging characters.

Maddison Kate, the heiress of Shadow Grove, finds her perfect life shattered when she is falsely accused of inciting a riot. Exiled by her father, she returns home to discover three enigmatic figures: Archer D'Ath, Kodiak "Kody" Johnson, and Max Steele. Convinced they are somehow involved in her predicament, Maddison embarks on a mission for revenge, unaware that her feelings for these intriguing men may complicate her plans.

The story is fueled by intense banter, simmering tension, and a slow-burn romance that keeps the reader hooked. The "enemies-to-lovers" dynamic adds an extra layer of intrigue, while the "why choose" element adds a delicious dose of angst.

"Hate" is a thrilling and addictive read that left me craving more. The cliffhanger ending will undoubtedly leave readers eager to dive into the next book in the series.
Also, a massive thanks to Sourcebooks for sending me the full Madison Kate series!! It was sizzling from start to finish. Now I must read the Hades series!

Super excited to dive into more of this series! I knew these guys were gonna be a fun time. There’s so much going on and I can’t wait to see what is in store for these characters.

DNF @ 24%. JFC this protagonist was annoying. I don’t know why authors continue to believe that just because a character swears a lot, they are deep/dark/badass/tough/whatever (not that I have a problem with swearing—this from someone who is perpetually in debt to her own swear jar). It’s just not the shortcut to character development they think it is.

Wow! This book was so much more than I was expecting and I LOVED it! Madison Kate is a total badass and was a pretty great main character even though at times she acted juvenile, but it made sense due to all she had been through. This book was steamy and those boys were dreamy and deadly. This book ended on such a cliffhanger that now I am foaming at the mouth to get my hands on the next book. This was a fantastic read and was so gripping.

“Madison Kate Danvers was murdered tonight.”

Why did I take so long to read Hate? If I knew that answer I would definitely tell you.

Maddison Kate is the heiress of Shadow Grove and has the perfect life until things come crashing down. She has been made the scape goat for riot night and rumors advise she has been murdered when her father ships her off. When MK arrives back to her Dad’s house where she finds three babysitters - Archer D'Ath, Kodiak (Kody) Johnson, and Max Steele. MK knows they had something to do with what happened to her (or did they?) and she wants sweet, sweet revenge. It doesn’t help that the three men are attractive and MK has chemistry with all three of them.

This is my first Tate James book and my very first reverse harem novel and boy I loved it. The banter, the enemies to lovers, why choose had me devouring every minute of the book/audiobook. I am glad I went in blind for book one. That cliffhanger! Now I need to pick up book two as soon as possible.

Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks for a gifted copy of this book for my honest book review.

This was my first dive into Tate James and I had so much fun with it. I love her sassy FMC. The spice was spicing! I can’t wait to continue the series

This just simply wasn’t for me. I’m not a dark romance reader so I’m not too sure why I thought to pick this up, thought maybe I could expand my taste. But that’s ok not every book is for everyone! It had a good premise though and I will definitely recommend this to others who are looking for dark romance reads, especially when they’ve read all the more known titles!

4.5 ⭐

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Madison Kate is quite a feisty character that will not stand back and allow the same 3 "boys" that ruined her life almost a year ago, walk all over her again. She is determined to stand up for herself and get them back for all the pain and destruction they caused in her life

Madison Kate is honestly such an interesting character and I love how flawed she is! She is trying to get her life back and trying to get Archer and his boys back for what happened to her... But gets easily distracted by their good looks and their protectiveness. She wants them gone, bit she also wants them around and enjoys spending time with them... Well some of them!

I loved all 3 of the guys and their different ways of dealing with Madison Kate. I feel like we got so little info on each of them which added to the mysterious and suspense vibes of the book and left me with so many questions in the end! Although I wished we had some chapters from their POVs, it was clear how much they wanted Madison Kate and how much they wanted to protect her.

It felt like so much happened in such a short period (basically 1 month) and I was completely pulled into the story. I loved the silly pranks and the tension between the 4 of them. There were some minor plot holes/issues I picked up that confused me and that's why it's not a full 5 stars, but I honestly enjoyed this book so much and had a fun time reading it.

I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

I took the opportunity to revisit this series with this new edition. Unfortunately, much like the first time I read it, I found that this book isn't particularly strong on its own. The characters are all pretty unlikeable, and it takes time to start appreciating them—a time that only comes with the other three and a half books in the series.

That said, *Hate* does lay down some solid groundwork for the series, which is one of my all-time favorites when it comes to the reverse harem genre. It may not shine as a standalone, but it sets up an intriguing, if rough, beginning that builds into something much more compelling as the series progresses.

I’m obsessed. This is one of my new series and authors. The ending is such a cliffhanger and I need the next one immediately.

Max Steele. How I love that man. Beautiful, intelligent and a pianist? Shut up right now.

Madison Kate is complicated. Sooooo complicated. I def didn’t expect the story to take such an amazing turn and I need to know everything now.

Kodiak Jones. Archer? Too good. I can’t wait for the harem that she def doesn’t want to happen.

This writing is so unique and incredible and I will most definitely be continuing this series. Tate James has an incredible writing voice and I can’t wait to read more of her work because it’s amazing!!

thank you to netgalley, the publisher, and to tate james for the advanced reader copy of "hate". in this book, we are following madison kate danvers following being framed for a crime, and her journey of revenge. i am a SUCKER for revenge plots, especially when the individual seeking retribution is a woman. this book will absolutely succeed in getting your blood pumping and your adrenaline rushing. madison kate is such a badass resilient protagonist that is effortless to root for. she is vulnerable but she is also determined. her dynamic with archer, kodiak, and steele is SO fun and steamy and i found myself on edge, not knowing whether to fall for them or distrust them. the setting of shadow grove is the perfect atmosphere for this story-- i had no problems feeling like i myself was a character in the book. while some twists were a bit cliche, as is with any romantic suspense, i had a great time, and highly recommend.

Hate by Tate James begins with an interesting premise with the story of the unaliving of Madison Kate ….only for Madison Kate, herself, to completely disagree with that statement. Hate contains a strong & compelling young woman & the new morally grey men that are now in forced proximity with her. It starts with enemies & revenges only for life, family drama, danger & so much more to completely change all of their lives forever.

This is book #1 in the Madison Kate series. I will warn any potential reader that this ends on a cliff hanger & will have you eager to get your hands on book #2.

Hate & the Madison Kate series is great for fans of…
💚 New Adult Romance
💚 Enemies to Lovers
💚 Why Choose
💚 Forced Proximity
💚 Family Drama
💚 Dark Romance

While I have only read the first book in this series, it does have a darker romance vibe, so do with that what you will.

Tate James writes an incredible & intriguing romances. I am keen to read more! If you haven’t read Tate James before, I recommend giving their work a try!

Massive thanks to NetGalley & Bloom Books for the gifted copy, which I voluntarily read & reviewed.
