Ah what!! How could you end it like this?
This book as titled is Hate but also mysterious with love tangled through out it!! There as so many twists and turns and the gorgeous male characters! To anyone reading this review if you love a feisty female lead with a bigger story at play - you’ll love this!
I absolutely loved this first book and eagerly awaiting the others!!
Although the warned you need to buy all the books as it has a cliffhanger!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bloom for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

This was a reread for me, but I enjoyed it just as much. Fast paced, enemies to lovers, a slow burn that just immeidately has you needing to pick up the next book. Just so compulsively readable.

First and foremost, this is a four book series that will require a bit of patience on behalf of the character development and the intricate storyline. I promise it will be worth it.

This book delves into the life of Madison Kate (MK) Danvers and an epic enemies to lovers storyline. It is gritty, suspense filled, who dunnit in a non cliché way. I was drawn to the relationships (and lack of) with MK and the guys (Steele, Kodi and Archer). Yes, this is a why choose romance. One girl plus three (eventual) love interests.

Just the first few lines will grab your attention, so if you are ready for one heck of a rollercoaster ride, dive in. Just like serial TV shows, there is a cliffhanger at the end of this book (gasp). Ms. James has written an intriguing mystery suspense that will have you begging for more.

If you're brave enough to enter the world of Shadow Grove, enter at your own risk

“Variety is the spice of life, Steele. Why choose?”

It was a shame they’d tried to screw me so hard a year ago, because I might have just found my soul mates.

Tate James always leaves me wanting more! She weaves together a story that will always leave you shocked...blushing..and wanting more! I cannot wait to get to the next book! I love MK and the boys! I love the mystery of whats happening...who is telling the truth...who is lying. What is everyones motive? Are these feelings real or imagined? IT'S SO GOOD!!! I need more immediately.

yesss I love this series!

The lust, the tension, and of course 3 super hot men.
MK is a real badass woman, and I love that she doesn't let anyone tell her what she can or can't do.
Too bad about that jerk of a father.

In the story, you learn more and more about MK and her history/trauma, and it's a lot. But despite that, she remains such a strong woman.
You also get to know the men a little better, and that leaves you wanting more🥵.

What can you expect:
🖤gangs
🖤badass fmc
🖤 why choose
🖤close proximity
🖤stalking
🖤feeling of betrayal
🖤spicyyyy scenes
🖤 3 gorgeous man

This is the first book I have read by Tate James, alas it did not hit the mark for me. This is book 1 in a series of 4, and after reading book 1, it's likely you will need to commit to reading all 4 to find answers to have a conclusion to the story.

I read an ARC, I believe the series must be being rereleased in February, as it is available on Kindle now and free if you have kindle unlimited so you will not have to wait for the next books in the series originally released in 2020.

The leading lady, Madison Kate (MK) has been through a lot in her life already and she is only just out of high school. After being set up as a scapegoat, her life as she had planned in ruins, her hatred of the 3 men she believes famed her burns hot and she is determined to seek her revenge.

When she returns home to find the 3 men who set her up living in her father's house, three quarters of the books centers around her battle between maintaining her hate and dishing out somewhat childish approach to her revenge (not surprising as she is still a teen) while battling her lust/attraction for the men. Not quite half-way in, things start to sizzle as she gives into temptation.

It is the final chapters of the book where it comes to life and the story actually progresses from no real information about the characters, why they are there, their backgrounds etc, to a gush of action, revelations and suspense as MK runs for her life, leaving you on a cliff-hanger.

This book does deal with gang members and the horrific things they do to send messages and the war between them. One scene in the book where the 3 brutally attack a man to send a message, MK finds herself turned on by this, while I have read and enjoyed some dark romances, this was not cup of tea.

While the story has potential, stretching it out over a number of books it loses its punch, with a slow start and action to finish to draw you to the next book, I could imagine if the full story was in one book it would be a fast paced, action packed, sizzling read.

This contemporary romance was deliciously dark and highly addictive. Not only did I read this in a day, I proceeded to devour the the subsequent books and now onto the next series in this universe.

Madison Kate got dealt a tough hand, framed for a crime and publicly ostracized for it. She returns from living out of the country only to find the ones who framed her living in her home. It doesn’t stop there though, her father is content with letting them run her life in his stead.

Not only does she want to ruin their lives like they did to her, she’s tempted by them with every step of the way. Throw in some dark secrets and mystery around the situation and you’ve got a reverse harem book that’s insanely hard to put down.

The first book in Madison Kate’s story. After being charged with a string of offenses, which she didn’t do. She’s eventually released back into Shadow Grove with one thing on mind. Hate. She has to move into her father’s new house and finds out she has to live with three guys, the same three who set her up in the first place.

Wtf did just happen. I’m so confused. MK and the boys🥵 now I have to read the rest of the series and find out what’s going on.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC✨

I swear this book has me by the chokehold. From the very beginning, I was drawn. This book was literally my main focus, and I could not put it down. The outside world and responsibilities meant nothing. The suspense from this book drove me insane; I just wanted to know what was happening. MK seriously had it good. All three men had the best qualities. I can't even say who I loved more. I ended up infatuated with all of them. The spice was definitely spicey and much appreciated. The story has a good plot. At times, I thought I knew what would happen, and then I was shocked. Even at the end, I'm like, what the hell?! It's well worth the read!

This was not very good, and I DNFd it around 30%. The main character was so whiny, and the way the guys called her "Madison Kate" just annoyed me. No one calls someone by a 4-syllable name like that - usually there is a nickname or something - nor do you constantly call someone by their name in conversation ALL the time. It was SO repetitive. Then, all of the guys were super similar - nothing really unique except for eye color.

I don’t know what she put in this book but I literally couldn’t tear myself away!! I think I finished reading in less than 24 hours. Dying to get started on the next book in the series!

Stop whatever you are doing and read this series. Madison Kate book 1. Hate is the perfect start to a series. Madison Kate is framed for something she didn’t do, and because of that she is shipped off for a year. Everything she thought she had (like an acceptance letter to college) was taken away. She returns home, only to find the 3 men who framed her, LIVING IN HER HOUSE! Archer, Steele, and Kody.. 3 gorgeous protective men who are keeping secrets. Soon MK realizes while they may be keeping secrets, they are also the only ones who can keep her protected from her childhood stalker. Or so she thinks… The first book grabs your attention quickly, with just enough spice and an intense story, it will keep you on your toes. Tate James is known for her story cliffhangers, and Hate is no exception. So you’ll want book 2 ready when you finish this.
If you have never read a why choose, this is great book to dip your toes in!

HATE is the first book in the Madison Kate series.
Hate follows, Maddison Kate, a young women who’s life had been twisted upside down on Riot Night. After being gone for a year shes back and looking to seek out revenge on those who participated on Riot Night. She finds herself living with the guys who had part in what happened. She wants to get her revenge and hate them but she keeps being pulled to them like a magnet.

I haven’t read a reverse harem novel in a a while but I’ve heard so many great things about Tate James that I had to give this series a try. After Madison Kate gets framed for a slew of crimes she’s is sent away. When she returns back to her home in Shadow Grove, things are not how they used to be. More specifically there are three men living in her house that she never thought she’d see again. There is so much tension between Madison Kate & the guys that I could not put the book down as I needed to know what was going to happen. Definitely recommend to RH fans that like a little bit of dark romance!

I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I did just that after seeing the cover for this book. Something about the bright green and pink contrasting the dark background really got my attention and drew me to it. I also liked that the name was simple, no extra bells and whistles, just Hate. I figured I like the cover I might as well read the description, which left me wanting more. A story about a girl getting revenge on boys who did her wrong but learning that the boys are now living in her home seemed interesting enough. I thankfully was approved for an ARC of this book from NetGalley and after reading the first few chapters, I was hooked!!! All my free time was spent reading or talking about this book.
I felt the book somewhat slowed after the first few chapters, not enough to lose my interest but enough that I felt like I needed to hurry and finish the book for it to speed up (since it’s a series). Some parts of the book seemed to drag and felt more like a set up for the entire series (like a prologue) rather than the first book in one.
The book also seems to revolve around late teenagers/early 20 year olds that live with parents, however the parents are never around. WHERE ARE THE PARENTS? Secondary characters (Bree) mention parents but the main character’s father who seems to be somewhat important (he lives in the home, with one of the boys’ mothers) is just nonexistent. They mention that the parents are on vacation, but like…. MK just returned home and they’re just not there or never there.
This was my first reverse harem book, and I expected more spicy moments, but it was more slow burn. A slow burn that sometimes confused me because MK is supposed to hate Archer, Max (Steele), and Kodiak (Kody). It seems like all her hate dissipates not because the boys redeem themselves or prove that they didn’t set her up, but because they’re hot. And it’s not even hate sex that she has with them. If you don’t mind that then I guess once the spice starts the wait was worth it.
I honestly did not like the end of the book at all and again it felt like a prologue rather than the first book in the series. I don’t think I’ll be reading the rest of the series if I’m honest.

Another note, upon reading the book I realized it was already published in 2020 and on Kindle Unlimited. I think perhaps the NetGalley version was just a new cover?

This very much has a possibility of being one of my favorite reads of 2024. I really didn’t expect to get sucked into this book as hard as I did. I was quite literally hooked from the first chapter, which for me doesn’t happen often. I’m so freaking ready to binge this series.

I appreciate that the female main character takes no crap. She’s strong, witty, and sarcastic and I love her so much.

This would definitely be a good introduction into reverse harem novels for someone who has very little experience. It’s not extremely spicy and is very well written.

Hate was a book I went into kind of blind and with zero expectations. It was my first reverse harem and I didn’t know if I would like it or not. I honestly loved it and quickly devoured the whole series! Tate James built such a wild and entertaining world with characters that make it impossible to put the books down. I highly recommend Hate and the rest of the Madison Kate series if you need some steamy books that are sure to keep you out of a slump!

I DEVOURED this book!! Seriously, I should have read this series sooner! I live for these enemies to lovers- bully romances.

MK is a total bad@$$, she doesn’t take crap from anyone. I was cracking up at how much h3ll she was giving the guys. And the guys?! 🤤 RH isn’t really my thing but whew the way Tate James writes, I got on board real quick 🔥🥵 The cliffhanger was definitely intense! I’m dying to read Liar, I NEED ANSWERS!!

Thank you Netgalley, SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for the advanced copy.

"Hate" by Tate James intrigued me from the start with its unique story premise, drawing me into a world of dark romance and complex relationships. However, despite this initial allure, the book failed to maintain my interest. The pacing felt off, and I found myself wanting more in terms of character development and engagement.

On a positive note, James demonstrates skill in crafting certain scenes and possesses a distinctive writing style. The narrative, though faltering in some areas, shines through in particular moments of vivid storytelling.

For readers who enjoy slow-burn narratives and are passionate about dark romance, enemies-to-lovers dynamics, and why-choose tropes, this series may hold appeal. If you have the patience for intricate plots and character arcs, "Hate" might be worth considering.
