"Hate by Tate James - To kick things off, Madison Kate Danvers, the FMC) of this book, had to be one of the most infuriating FMCs I've encountered in a long time, and I absolutely loved it.
The story starts with a riot on Halloween Night, where Madison appears to have been set up by three mystery men she encountered that night. The consequences, with little to no help from her father, results in her being sent away to a family member's house. Upon her return, she discovers these mysterious men are now occupying her dad's house.
This narrative kicks off with intensity and maintains the momentum until the very end. As the first part of a four-part series, I'm hooked and will be diving into the rest of the series without a doubt. The book boasts a compelling plot, seamless storytelling, and heated scenes that add to the dynamic among all the characters involved.
This book was a great read. It has everything you could want in a book: action, suspense, romance, and a strong female lead. The story follows Madison Kate Danvers, who is framed for a deadly riot and charged with multiple offenses. After being released from prison, she returns to her hometown of Shadow Grove with only one thing on her mind - revenge. Madison is determined to make the boys who framed her pay for ruining her life. But things take an unexpected turn when she discovers that the boys she seeks revenge on are living in her house, right down the hall.
Archer, Kodiak, and Steele are mysterious, dangerous, and undeniably attractive. Madison knows she should stay away from them, but her hatred towards them is too strong to resist. As she gets to know them, she realizes that there is more to their story than she initially thought. But can she let go of her hatred and give them a chance?
What I loved about this book is the strong and fierce protagonist, Madison Kate. She is not your typical damsel in distress, but a strong and independent character who takes matters into her own hands. Her determination for revenge is admirable, and her journey towards forgiveness and love is heartwarming. Overall, it was a fun read and would highly recommend.
I was hooked from page 1! This was amazing. So much animosity and feelings. So much desperation and drama. Heaps of fun 😁 highly highly recommend! And that cliffhanger 😨😨😨
Thanks to Netgalley and Source Books ahead of its February release. I’m new to Madison Kate though I’ve seen her as a side character in 7th Circle. I’ve read them a bit out of order it appears.
I’m reminded this book was originally written a few years ago and it’s a NA romance, a why choose so I’ve factored this into the equation.
MK is returning to Shadow Grove after spending 11 months in Cambodia after being jailed for three months prior for crimes she didn’t commit. Before all this she was a spoiled, socialite type mean girl who was in the wrong place at the wrong time on what comes to be known as Riot Day. Upon release she wants a quieter life, with a side of revenge. When she arrives home she finds her father has gone off with his new wife, and ensconced in the house are the wife’s son, and his two mates (all tatted and gorgeous of course but naughty, naughty boys).
Hate sees MK’s hatred for the three and plots their downfall - well there’s a bit of plotting, intermingled with some making love sick eyes, dry humping and panty-dropping. It’s clear the book is setting the scene for her relationship with the three, with a little (um) taste test here and there. There’s the edginess I expected - with the overarching theme of gang warfare between the Reapers and the Wraiths, as well as a threat to MK from person/s unknown. It’s definitely a foundational book with the world building (not sure you can use that here in a non-fast book) in this brave new world after the Riot Day.
I’m hoping to get to know more of MK in the next book - I wouldn’t say she’s as kick ass as I would like her to be yet. She’s sassy, rude and bitchy, so I’m hoping I see more of her character than the rocking, nubile young body with pink hair that has these three so enamoured. (Gah … I sound old wanting additional character development with my dark romance).
And there’s a cliffhanger in preparation for book 2. Thise last couple of chapters!!!
4.5⭐️ rounded up for netgalley
Hate, book 1 of the Madison Kate series by Tate James @tatejamesauthor. Tate is a new to me author. This book ends on a cliffhanger & please read the trigger warnings.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I would highly recommend it, though I wish it was multi-POV. 🤷🏼♀️ Madison, Arch, Steele & Kody definitely have things to work through.
This is my first read by Tate James and I'm sure it won't be my last! I'm always up for a great Why Choose. I'm generally not a dark romance girl so some of the plot was a bit much for me but that's a personal distinction. Spicy, intense, and leads you right to book 2.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bloom Books for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I literally can’t wait to request the next book! This story was entertaining and sexy, while the actual romantic feelings were slow and tense. Madison Kate has so much fuck/lust/hate energy that’s dying to come out and when it finally does, I’ll be here waiting.
I liked Madison Kate, Archer, Steele, and Kodiak, though all the names were questionable choices. I appreciated how all the characters were individualized while still being one whole group and future reverse harem. At times in the book, I did feel like it took too long to get to the action and there was a lot of filler.
I’m dying to find out what happens when Madison Kate finally gets her revenge, and you will be too if you choose to read this book! Thank you to Netgalley and Bloom for the ARC!
I absolutely loved Hate by Tate James. A year after being tried for a crime she didn't commit, Madison Kate returns to her father's house only to find the 3 men who set her up now live there too and are now tasked with keeping her in line. But after discovering there are worse things out there looking for her, can she trust any of them to keep her safe? Plenty of intrigue, fun, and just enough spice to get the series started.

OK holy hell. Where do I even start. This book was addictive and unputdownable. I have once again deprived myself of sleep because I literally could not put it down.
The sexual tension and chemistry in this book is insane and has you page turning faster than your eyes can move.
The story focuses around Madison Kate, who, after being framed for B+E and murder is exiled by her asshole father for 11 months. She returns almost a year later to find her dad shacked up with a new woman and the three ridiculously sexy men who framed her living in her house.
Madison is a phenomenal character, she's strong, sassy and vengeful. What I loved is that her stubborn argumentative side doesn't come off as annoying and petulant like it has in a lot of other books I've read. It's witty and has you fully supporting her. The guys 🥵 Jesus christ, I haven't recovered, I'm diving straight into book 2. Normally in RH I find myself having a preference for, and leaving more towards one guy in particular. However, in this book, I can't choose and I don't have to, it's RH, hazaa!
The plot for this book was brilliant as is the pacing and character depth. You connect with each and everyone one of them the further you get into the book and the chemistry and sexual tension is burning off the page from the beggining of the book. I absolutely loved it, it was delicious.
Highly recommended read.
* I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this book. All thoughts are my own.
This was a very quick read for me. I loved that the story starts off with a bang (pun intended) and pulls you in immediately. Madison Kate is a bad-ass main character and I can’t wait to read more of her story! This book definitely focuses more on the Hate than the romance so far. I’m hoping in book two that that picks up pretty quickly. This is definitely not a standalone, you’ll have to read all books in order because it seems to be a series focused on MK. This also ends with a cliffhanger so you’ll want to have the next book handy to jump right in!
Would recommend.

"𝘝𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦, 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘦. 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘦?"
Madison Kate Danvers was set up as the scapegoat for a night of crime that wrecked her hometown. Eleven months later she is called back home by her father only to find out, the three guys that set her up are now living in her house. Things in her town are different than when she left. With no other choice, she’s forced to attend her father’s political project, a new college, with the three guys she can’t stand. Little do they know, they have cornered a lioness and she’s not going down without her revenge.
Wow, I loved this book! It’s dark, mysterious and spicy! It definitely ends on a huge cliffhanger that will have you needing to roll right into the next book! I still have so many questions and I have no idea who to trust in this story. Madison Kate is a strong and independent FMC. The chemistry between MK and her guys is off the charts. I know the next books will only get hotter! 🥵 The guys are all unique and alluring in their own ways. Steele is definitely my favorite! 🫠
This is definitely a dark romance so please read the trigger warnings before reading!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bloom Books for my early copy of this rerelease! The new covers are fun! On to the next book! 💃🏻
Thank you NetGalley for providing this arc in exchange for an honest review,
I do not read why choose often because I feel as though many fail to have an actual plot to the trysts.
This book was done very well. I was drawn in from the frust chapter. The buildup and tension as they geared towards "relations" was superb.
This was left on a cliffhanger and cannot be read as a stand alone.
Highly recommend to readers who enjoy dark romance and the why choose trope.
This is the first book in the Madison Kate four book serial. This is not a stand alone, the story ends in a cliffie and continues in the next three books. But ththat is so so worth the four books, I'm flabbergasted how this tearjerking pageturner putr me through the wringer. A fastpaced, complex, complicated story with four main characters, very spicy, raw and gritty, deals with sensitive subjects.
This is the introduction in Madison Kate, Archer, Kody and Steele's world. An unputdownable, literally unputdownable read that I can't recommend enough.
Okay, so I had a couple of friends on Instagram say, "I think you'd love this book," and they were right!
Madison Kate got herself in a heap of trouble, and who better to help get her out, then the assholes who got her there. I loved to hate Archer, Max and Cody! Holy cow those assholes are something and I want more!
This book sucked me in, and I read it in a day!
I have never read a Tate James book before this Hate. I am so thankful an instagram friend recommended it. I love Why Choose romance and suspense/mystery, and this one has both. I read this book in one day and then promptly picked up the second and the third. This series is so addictive. By the time I reached the end of the third book, I found the storyline to be a bit repetitive. However, I was invested in the story and the relationship between the four main characters, I did not care! I will be reading more of Tate James’s books.
Tate James is the queen of unhinged reverse harem with thick plot, hefty spice, and absurd plot-twists. There was not a single thing I hated about this book. Madison Kate was arrested and her life was ruined a year ago on Riot Night. Now, she's back home the three guys who ruined her life are living in her home thanks to her dad's new girlfriend.
I loved our FMC, she was strong and bitter and developed. The love interests were all perfect fits and different that you knew exactly who was who. The college setting added perfectly to the chaos. The pacing slowed a bit in the middle where we are met with gratuitous scenes, but picks up at the end in a way that will have you begging for the next instalment.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the copy of this book. This is my first Tate James book and I am hooked. This book is the first of the Madison Kate series and cannot wait to read more. I could not put this book down from the time I started until I finished. I cannot wait to read the next book.
This book is exactly what I was looking for from Tate James especially after reading the Hades series by her.
I don't read Why Choose romance often, but this one had me intrigued for a while. Happy I could finally see what all the hype is about!
I liked Madison Kate as a character, she's pretty fun. Her backstory is very interesting (not mentioning what has happened to her due to spoilers) and I'm very interested to know how all of that will be resolved after the massive cliffhanger this book ends on.
Tate James' writing style is compulsively readable and the beginning was chock full of action and had me really hooked. Sadly, in the middle the book lost most of its' steam for me (not the spicy steam though, which the middle part provided a-plenty). I also didn't care much for the three love interests. Archer was my least favorite because he never explained himself at all even though he might have had good reasons for his behavior. Kody and Steele I'm kind of meh about, but could change my ming about them in later books maybe. The ending of the novel really picked up again though and I will continue in the series because I HAVE to know how everything is connected and what really happened in the past.
If you want a quick and mostly fast-paced right that has action, fun and spice, this is the book for you.
(Thank you to NetGalley, Tate James and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books, Bloom Books for providing me with an eARC for this book in exchange for my honest feedback. All opinions in this review are my own.)

I first read the Madison Kate series a couple years ago when I first got into romance and I binged it and the Hades series in like a week. I loved this book just as much the second time around.
MK is such a baddie. She was smart and resilient with so much sneak and sass that so couldn’t help but laugh. I love how she never backed down from the guys and completely understood her struggle to stay mad at them while being incredibly attracted to them.
The guys! OMG the guys in this book were next level. I love all of them even when I hated them right along with MK.
The suspense plot with the stalker and finding out what really happened on Riot night had me hooked. But oh man that cliffhanger. I can’t wait to dive into Liar.
The bonus chapter in the Bloom edition was everything I didn’t know I needed. But it only makes me even more anxious to start Liar!
