Thank you, Sourcebooks Explore, for the ARC.
This is such an inspiration! The illustration is the highlight for me. It’s really beautiful and magical!
The book features some well known black women which I feel is done well. Hopefully this book turns into a series featuring more and more amazing other black women in history.
Pair this one with Black Boy, Black Boy by the same authors -- I'm so happy they wrote this one!
Girls rule! Opportunities to learn more (research) about notable females abound!
This book is colorful and interesting. Have fun learning with Ali and Jorge! This duo will inspire you to read and write more!
This is a good book to inspire young black women but it's not the best. This reads more as a poetry book that features prominent black women. There's a little back matter on each woman mentioned but beyond that it's not ground breaking.
Black Girl, Black Girl is a book about empowering young black women to become anything they want to be. This book guides a young girl reminding her that anything is possible. Throughout the book we also encounter Black women who have accomplished amazing things. At the back of the book, there is more information about each of the women mentioned in the book.
We stan books about black girl joy. The story and inclusion of the quilt and it's historic significance really made me love this more!
A beautiful book brimming with beautiful Black women in history & today. A joyous read encouraging kids, especially Black girls, to keep striving for their dreams & being themselves! Absolutely loved the inclusion of a quilt throughout the story & the note in the back explaining its significance to African American culture & recording political past. Further information about each of the women noted throughout the book is included. A must-read, perfect to gift & to pair with it's companion text Black Boy, Black Boy.
I read Black Boy, Black Boy a few years ago and was excited to see a follow up with this one! A great children's book series that belongs on every shelf. And the use of the quilt to tie together all the pages is really clever!
Thanks to netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review!
