The Perfect Nanny" opens with a promising premise, drawing readers into a gripping narrative that quickly escalates into a maze of suspense and uncertainty. The novel introduces Haley, a college student seeking a summer job as a nanny, setting the stage for what initially appears to be a routine caregiving arrangement for twin girls.
However, the tale takes an unexpected turn when Haley's first night on the job reveals unsettling discrepancies in the family dynamic. The sudden realization of a missing third child, unbeknownst to both Haley catapults the storyline into a web of intrigue and suspicion.
As Haley grapples with unraveling the mystery surrounding the missing baby, the novel's tension intensifies, leaving readers torn between conflicting loyalties and uncertain whom to trust.
Amidst the gripping suspense, the novel interlaces Haley's personal journey, introducing a romantic subplot that intertwines with the larger mystery. The complexities of Haley's character, balance her quest for truth with the newfound possibility of love.
Haley takes a babysitting job for two nine year old girls, her first night seems to be going well, until the parents return and ask where their baby is. Haley, accused of kidnapping their baby, gets escorted to the police station, what secrets is everybody hiding, and where is the baby?
I read this book quickly, the short chapters, cliffhangers and the way the book jumps right into the storyline had me hooked from the first page. The secrets and the twists, especially in the ending of this book had be surprised, I did not expect them at all. I really enjoyed most of the characters in the book, Haley especially, they were written well and had depth to them. Slightly unrealistic ending to the book but it didn't impact my enjoyment of reading it and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a easy to read thriller.
Thank you netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Due out Feb 9th 2024.
The Perfect Nanny - Shari J. Ryan
Shari J. Ryan's last book The Homemaker was great so I was eager to read this one.
Haley is studying psychology, and needs to earn money to support herself. Her well-paid childminding job ends in disaster, as she is accused of stealing the family's baby, a baby she hadn't even been told about.
This book starts with a bang, and the setup is handled brilliantly. Fast moving, regular twists and reveals. I was impressed and fully swept along for the ride.
There's an involved plot, it's very unpredictable. At different points I was reminded of Freida, Natalie Barelli, Minka Kent and Lucinda Berry, quite the stylistic lineup, and fans of those authors should enjoy this.
There are sections were Haley writes up events as an academic psychological study, those parts weren't the best for me, they broke up the momentum. While the second half didn't quite match up to the first, I enjoyed it overall and will be looking out for more books by Shari J. Ryan.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture
I knew I was going to love this from the first page, and I wasn't wrong. Such a great read, I couldn't put it down and read it in a day. The plot is so twsity and taught, a real whirlwind of a great read.
This book was awesome it was right up my street full of twits and turns which I did not see coming. Some of the twist’s actually had me gasping out loud cause I really wasn’t expecting them. Fantastic booked. Which I will be recommending to anyone who loves a dark twisty thriller. Excellent! Thanks to netgallery and the publisher for my advanced copy.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC!
WOW!! All I can say is wow!! This book was everything I love!!! Crazy twist, the plot was great and it left me speechless! I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves mysteries!
The story gripped me from the very beginning. It's full of deceit and you don't know who to trust. I enjoyed the twists but can't give it 5 stars as, in many instances, the story felt like it was dragging with the all the details and internal dialogue of the MC, with the same content repeated. However, I still enjoyed the book and read it within a day. I also enjoyed all the psychological discussions in the story.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
"The Perfect Nanny" is a book about a woman who places an ad to be a nanny for the summer to make some money. She then gets a nanny position which makes her end up a prime suspect in a crime. Little does everyone involved know what she is capable of!
This book had me hooked from the first chapter as I couldn't put it down as I had to know what happened next. It's written so well by the author that you can't help but keep turning the pages, and the ending is a twist you will not see coming and it made me literally gasp!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Perfect Nanny by Shari J. Ryan was absolutely mad-house! Holly-Gacomolly! The way things turned down was not just unexpected but shocking! Most of the book you just question What The Hell Is Going On. Then twists come in with lightning energy! Boom! And all you can do is gasp out loud and let out that you didn't realise you were holding in!
Haley studies child psychology so it's common sense that she would take a summer job as a nanny as this would give her the perfect chance to work on her dissertation.
Lara and Corbin Smith, a wealthy family, always look for the best so it's just normal that they would need The Perfect Nanny to look after their twin girls!
The job that is supposed to be Haley's big opportunity turns into her darkest nightmare! Terrifying events will come out one after another and will make Halley question everything!
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for this copy!
Keep your eyes open as publication day is 9 Feb 2024! You don't want to miss this thriller!
I don’t think a book has ever left me this speechless before!! Wow! I was hooked instantly: a college student takes a job as a nanny for twin 9 year old girls, but when the parents get home they start freaking out asking where their baby is. Baby? What baby!?! It just gets crazier from there. Every time I thought I had it figured out, another shocking twist would happen!! I was extremely confused for a lot of the book, but it does come together in the end!! Highly recommend!
Imagine being hired to be a nanny to 9 year old twin girls, and then being accused of kidnapping an infant that you weren't told about?
That is what happened to Haley.
Wow...... this gripped me from the first page. I just could not stop reading. The twists! I read this in one sitting, I just had to know what was going on. The backstory is very interesting and the main character, Haley did not show her true colours till the end. I did, however, figure out Liam's game.
The ending. I was very disappointed, it seemed unfinished. I have a feeling there may be a sequel.
Be warned, mental health issues abound in this book.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this digital ARC.

This book read like a fever dream. Haley is a psychology student seeking summer employment, and when she takes a job as nanny to nine-year-old twins, the opportunity seems perfect for her. The girls' mother is generous with the wages and even wants Haley to do a trial run to make sure she's perfect for the job.
After a night out, the parents return and immediately want to know where "the baby" is. Confused, Haley doesn't know how to respond, because there never was a baby, just the twins. But when the police are called and damning evidence is found in Haley's car, it appears there was a baby after all, and Haley has a lot of explaining to do.
Just when I thought I had predicted the entire plot of this book, the author pulled the rug out from under me. There were so many devious layers, and as they were pulled back, one by one, more and more shocking revelations came to light until I didn't know who, if anyone, I could trust. This is definitely a book that it's best going in knowing just the bare minimum. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for this early read. THE PERFECT NANNY will publish February 9, 2024.
WOW! Is all I have at the end of this book and what did I just read! If you want something to keep you guessing from the very beginning and all the way through, this definitely did that. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I received this book as an arc from NetGalley and my mind is blown. 🤯
Following a Student looking for a summer job that will help contribute to her education she lands a nanny job with more pay than she could have expected. The job is to nanny 2 children, or is it really 3…?
When a 15 month old baby is missing, the only questions are:
1. Who took the baby?
2. Where is the baby now?
3. Is the baby even real?
I did not expect the book to go in the direction it did but it’s the perfect amount of suspense throughout!
Wow this is a really dark twisted novel about a missing baby and a babysitter who claims she never even knew the baby existed. As we delve into a complex thriller things get even more messed up and dark secrets spill out everywhere.
Being a nanny for 9 year old twins is an easy peasy job right?
Add a one year old? Not too much more work.
But what if you don’t know about the baby, then are accused (and arrested) for kidnapping that baby?!
Psychology student Haley takes a nanny job over the summer to make ends meet, but this job turns into multiple nightmares for her.
I can’t give anything away, but the twists this book takes with MULTIPLE characters will have you on the edge of your sea
I would have liked a resolution for "the other twin".
This talented author has written a page turner… cannot put down story of intrigue. Realistic characters keep the story moving quickly. Enjoy an afternoon of trying to discern the ending. It isn’t easily accomplished. In fact, I am still wondering if know the ending. Secrets and red herrings. This book is different in that one must truly try to contemplate what is going on in this novel. Innovative writing. Thanks Netgalley.
Haley needs a job for the summer, so she puts an ad in the paper for a nanny. She is called to watch 9 year old twins one night. However, when the parents come home they accuse her of kidnapping their baby-a baby they never mentioned. While I knew right away something was off with the twins disappearing, Liam showing up at class, and even Willa, I didn't guess all of the connections. I thought WIlla was going to be the "dead sister" who got out of the fire. As the book goes on, you find out innocent people aren't as innocent as you think. I didn't care for all of the twists the author put in the story, but it kept my attention and was a good book.
I received this book from NetGalley.
WOW! I could not put this book down! It had me hooked from the start and I HAD to know what happens next and couldn’t make myself stop reading until I knew it all. There was a ton of twist and turns and a few definite surprises! I will definitely be looking into more books by Shari J Ryan!
Sucked in from the start. Twists, twists and more twists. Sadly somewhere down the road the whole thing became a tad unrealistic and the ending left me unimpressed. Maybe i have just had my fill of nanny tales? My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
This book pulled me in and gripped me hard through the first 80% and then lost me with the crazy ending. I will not give details to avoid spoilers. It is still worth a read. The writing is very good. 4 stars—the last star was lost with the ending.
