I am normally such a fan of Julia Garwood. Usually, I devour her books greedily but Hotshot just didn't work for me. I found myself very surprised to struggle to get through it. I nearly put it down and left it a couple of times. Ultimately, it was the characters that caused the issue. Peyton was annoying and wouldn't listen to anything, especially when it concerned her own safety. Finn was one dimensional and didn't have enough depth of character. The issues with characters seeped into the romance. It did have a couple of great moments but over all felt forced. This was not one of Garwood's finest and I look forward to going back to some of her other novels to refresh after this.
This book is seriously an insult to all of Julie Garwood's fans... it's trite, it's inane, and the characters (and their nonexistent chemistry) are an insult to both us readers and her wonderful Highland heroes of yore. HOTSHOT is not the worst of Ms. Garwood's recent contemporaries, but it won't leave you cheering if you manage to power through.
