I didn’t realize this was a short story when I got it, but it’s only 40 pages! My next thought was, how can a thriller be only 40 pages. Surprisingly, it’s really quite good. I would love to see it as a full novel and not a short story series. It’s got an interesting premise and would be really cool fully fleshed out. As it is, though, it’s still a good read, if short!
Four adventure seekers win an all-expense paid trip to Costa Rica through an advanced dating game, but things take an unexpected, sinister turn in this short psychological thriller series.
A very quick little novella series. I didn't know what to expect going in, but I ended up liking it.
The beginning of this definitely has me intrigued! I am looking forward to learning more about the competition and the relationship between Eli and Jesse. The one thing is that Eli is such an immature character, and I didn’t like how he was seeing his relationship with Jesse (how could you just leave your wife without telling her?!). I hope he grows more as a character over the next couple of books!
While the book boasts a captivating premise, the execution falls short.
Eli, unemployed and in an unsatisfying relationship, impulsively enters a contest for an all-expense-paid trip to Costa Rica to meet his perfect match, hoping for a win/win in his unhappy life and crumbling marriage.
Regrettably, the writing is awkward and stilted, the characters lack development, and the dialogue feels uncomfortable.
Although the story concludes with a cool cliffhanger, I'm hopeful that future installments improve on the forced writing style.
This book has a cool as heck premise, but it fell flat in the delivery. Eli is unemployed and in an unhappy relationship, so on a whim he enters a contest for an all expense paid trip to Costa Rica where he gets to meet the perfect match for him … win/win for this man with an unhappy life and crumbling marriage. Unfortunately, the writing is clunky and stilted, the characters are not developed, the dialogue is awkward, and most things are being “told not shown.” Again, super interesting idea, and is left on a very cool cliffhanger. I hope the writing gets a bit less forced in future installments.
This was a very exciting read and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Really gripping overall.
Short, but interesting, start to the series. I’m interested to know what happens next. Some of the writing is a bit juvenile but the story is good enough to overlook that.
This is the first part of a longer story about a man who apparently wins an opportunity to participate in some kind of match making contest.
After being stuck in an unhappy marriage for the better part of 10 years, Eli is more than ready for a change. He wants to leave Jesse behind him, and is excited about travelling to Costa Rica to meet the contestant he has been matched up with, whom he only knows as number 102.
But after he arrived Costa Rica, there is a strange beeping sound in his hotel room. And when he opens the door the following morning hoping to meet his dream woman, he gets a surprise...
I did not find this particularly interesting, and Eli is not a likeable MC, in my opinion. In fact, I ended up feeling sorry for Jesse. This story might well work for other readers, but it sadly was not my cup of tea.
This was a fantastic read! I'm so excited to read the next book. The author did a great job at creating suspense in the beginning and now I want to read on to know what happens next. And props to whoever did the cover art! The book is one I would see and want to immediately grab off a shelf. And then when it's in my hands I never want to put it down.
This is a different genre than the other books I have read from his author, but it's as if they've always been a psychological thriller writer. At this point, I am certain that this is an author I want to follow.
Truly the definition of enticing. Could not stop reading after I started. Definitely worth a read, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
This was a great and very intriguing start to what I am sure will be a riveting collection.
I am very excited to see where this is going!
Well this book took about ten minutes to read! So there's not too much I can say about it? Nothing really happened yet?! I guess I I'll see in the next book?? Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
thank you for giving me an opportunity of an early read! The plot was a good solid idea, however, the set up was to short. I wasn't giving enough time to learn about the character before he was thrown into this bizarre situation. It was written in third person and for me personally it's always been hard for me to get into. The dialogue did not have a natural feel, it felt really forced.
