This book consumed me! I didn't come up for air until I finished it! Laura Wood you have cast a spell on me.
This book felt like I was watching a rom-com based in the world on Hocus Pocus!
And Theo is the best book Boyfriend!
Ultimately all of the family dynamics was my favorite part most of all!
So sweet and wholesome!
A romance book that works on all levels.
The flow of the story works well, in that it makes sense and believable, which overall makes it enjoyable. The FMC is headstrong, funny and a little lost in her way but is someone you want to root for and the MMC has just enough mystery, is a charmer and is silly enough to be deserving of the FMC (and vice versa). The tension between them is just enough to make me finish this book in one sitting because I desperately wanted them to have their HEA.
While the main couple is the star of this show (as they should be in any romance), the side characters were a big part of why this book works on every level.. The sister relationships was heartwarming, and while they were there to move the story along and help the main leads figure out their feelings for the other, they still had their own personalities that shine through the page and made me a little sad we don’t get a book that focuses on them.
Regardless, I’m excited to see what else this author will write and look forward to those books.
Solid 5 stars

This was a great celebrity romance even though that isn't usually my favorite trope. The entire time I was reading it, I was getting "Peace" by Taylor Swift vibes. Theo was such a golden retriever, I loved him. And besides the romance, the sisterhood and touch of magic made this the perfect rom com. This book would be the perfect Fall read.
The down-on-her-luck daughter of a Mick Jagger-esque musician has a one-night stand after losing her job and getting dumped, only to find that the man she slept with is the famous singer she's supposed to be working for. I really enjoyed this! The celebrity world Wood built in here was so fun-I love Hollywood romances and this is now one of my new faves. The connection between Clemmie and Theo was perfect! I always really like forced proximity and am a sucker for the "they act like enemies but were really in love the whole time" trope. Other things I liked about this one? It was legitimately funny and both the sister dynamic and the English countryside vibes were fantastic.
While the overall premise was a bit silly, I really loved this book and couldn’t put it down! I fell in love with the characters and the relationship between the sisters and I was rooting for the romance between Theo and Clemmie.. there were some important themes woven in about fame, trust and relationships. Highly recommend!
"Under Your Spell" by Laura Wood is a delightful escape into a world where the messiness of real life collides with the glitz and glamour of rock stardom. The charm of this novel lies in its blend of humor, heart, and a touch of magic. Clemmie is a relatable protagonist, dealing with life’s curveballs in a genuine and endearing way. Her reluctance to engage with Theo, despite their undeniable chemistry, adds a slow-burn quality to the romance that fans of Christina Lauren and Emily Henry will appreciate. On the other hand, Theo is more than just a celebrity heartthrob; he’s layered, introspective, and struggling with his own challenges, making him a perfect match for Clemmie in more ways than one.
If you’re a fan of romance with a dash of celebrity intrigue and a sprinkle of magic, this will charm you from the very first chapter. It's a feel-good story that reminds us that sometimes, the best things in life come when we least expect them.
I loved this books so much! The beautiful relationship between Clemmy and her sisters! It was a great plot line. Never read another like this! And, of course, Theo and Clemmy♥️
This was my first time reading a Laura Wood book and it won’t be my last! I really enjoyed reading Under Your Spell and loved the FMC. The pacing of the book was perfect and Clementine and Theo’s relationship had me giddy. This is a great book for fellow romance readers!
Thank you for the ARC.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading but I was so sorry when the book had to end, it’s that good.
Clemmie is the daughter of a very famous rock star. She doesn’t think much of rock stars as a profession because of the way her father treated her, her half sisters, and their respective mothers. She’s avoided everything and everyone related to the music industry as a result.
When she loses her job, she and her sisters do a “white magic” spell and make wishes. Fate delivers her a one night stand with a gorgeous guy she thought was named Edward, and her sister offers her a job basically babysitting a musician named Theo until he finishes an album.
When she arrives at house both she and Theo are shocked to find that they had their one night stand together. Clemmie is angry because she really likes a well known rock star against her tiles, and works for Clemmie’s sister at his record label. She lives in the UK and he’s in LA.
Can they overcome their obstacles and find a happy ending?
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley, I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book gave me everything I love. Forced proximity, rockstars, a little bit of magic. I loved it and thoroughly enjoying reading every page of it. Definitely one to add to your list!
f you want a fun Rom-com this is your book, I just wish I could have heard the music. This story had relatable characters and with a rock and roll vibe. Aging rock star's daughter wants nothing to do with the music business or rock stars. Her Dad cared more about his fame then he did about her and her sisters. I think you can imagine where this story is going, rock star's daughter meets man and sleeps with him, one night stand Check. The only problem is that man is a rock star and not just any rock star but a super famous one. He is her job for six weeks, so he can write an album. How bad can it be, she just has to make sure he does not die and writes his next album. NO problem at all.
Clemmie can totally do this she is a professional and she can forget about his hard rock abs for the summer. She starts to believe the Break-up Spell she did with her sisters was maybe a curse. Her life is not going well, cheating ex and fired from her dream job. She needs this money so his sex appeal will have to vanish from her mind in order to get through this.
Pick this book up, you will not be disappointed, so fun!

2.5 stars rounded down.
In the minority it appears!
The book is broken down into 3 parts. Part 1 was a great start! However, it started out so differently then what it ended up being. The little sisterly witchy moment, the banter, the build-up to the plot...it was all there, it had me. By the end of Part 1, I was so excited to see what was going to happen for Part 2! Sadly, as quickly as it had me, it lost me. Part 2 IMMEDIATELY fell flat, was dull, and the relationship was just rushed. It picked up again, but then lulled some more. Most of Part 3 had me rolling my eyes, but the last 10% or so was really cringy. Maybe I'm just not into the hero randomly showing up out of the blue and saving the day by hitting a person...if you are, you're luck!
Third act breakup was foreshadowed and formulaically placed, as expected. Also can we please label this as what it was...It wasn't just a miscommunication...it was NO communication.
This book had elements of tropes that simply just don't work for me, or carried the trope on for way too long. For example, taking care of someone when they're sick is typically a middle of the road trope for me. This book was unrelenting with it. He takes care of her while she's sick, you think it's over, and then here we go again! She takes care of him while he's sick. This went on forever. Pages upon pages I felt like of them just taking care of each other. I tuned out!
The spice was a rogue red chili flake.
The best parts about the book are the sister dynamic and Part 1.
This book surprised me in the best way. It is about Clementine, who is the daughter of an uber famous rock star, and she wants nothing to do with the music industry or celebrity lifestyle. When her boyfriend dumps her and she loses her job, her sister, a music producer, hires her to babysit a famous musician as he writes his next album at their grandma’s remote cottage. Much to her surprise, the rock star, Theo, turns out to be the guy she just recently had a one night stand with.
This book was so much fun and really well written. Clemmie and Theo had incredible chemistry with hilarious and silly banter and both had great character arcs. It was really apparent how they got to be where they were and I loved watching them work through their past traumas together. I also appreciated the positive representation of therapy and seeing it at work with these two. But even with all this depth, it was so funny and romantic. There is a little bit of spice- nothing too crazy, but it's GOOD. I gave it a one chili pepper rating. As one of 3 sisters myself, I totally related to Clemmie’s dynamic with her two sisters and their love for each other. They all had such distinct personalities but were eternally bonded. I highly recommend this book- giving it a full five stars!
This was such a cute light hearted romance! As someone who’s dated musicians, I think this book did a great job depicting that lifestyle. What a great ensemble of characters! This book was so well-written with some fun humor mixed in! I flew through it and rushed to order a physical copy to have on my shelf! Also a very pretty cover that drew me in as well!
Not what I expected when I first read the description. I also thought that it was so predictable and how the romance played out has been done before so I wasn’t as interested in it when I did get into the story. The romance and characters falling for each other just happened too fast. Loved the sisters and their little side stories, though.
This was such a cute romance full of forced proximity and magical chemistry. I adored it. Laura wood is talented
What a great read! I love how the relationship between the sisters and then the relationship between Clemmie and Theo developed as the story progressed. I loved how the non-verbal communication between Clemmie and Theo came through like I was standing there with them. It is a really charming story of Clemmie's evolution as an adult child of a rock star. Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
unfortunately this book fell flat for me and it felt like it was dragging on. overall, it felt like a fanfic and i could see the third act breakup coming from miles away.
4.5⭐️
If you’re looking for a good beach read this summer, Under Your Spell is a great choice- and will likely put you under its spell. It definitely did for me. Poignant, romantic, funny, moving, with a dash of magic, I loved this book and happily flew right through it.
Thank you Laura Wood, Atria Books, and NetGalley for providing this ARC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.
I really enjoyed this book! What a unique spin on a being a rockstar’s child and the untraditional family. The characters were great and this was an entertaining read. I could do without the 3rs act breakup though.
