There is something magic about this book! It was quirky and fun. It gave perfect romcom vibes with a little hocus pocus. I loved the dynamic of the sisters. I was captured from the moment they did the break up spell. There was just so much growth that happened throughout and I loved that Wood brought everything together in the end!

Oh my GOD!!!! This is one of my favorite romantic comedies I’ve read this year! The characters were well developed and the writing was witty- I laughed out loud many times!! Clemmie and Theo were perfection and I just was obsessed with the tension and their relationship!!

Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for an ARC!!!

Under Your Spell by Laura Wood
Contemporary romance.
Clementine Monroe was once dumped by a musician and decided to stay away from them in the future. And her most recent ex cheated and then took all the furniture and their cat! So Clemmie and her sisters wish for “hot sex” for her. Meeting a super hot man at a funeral turns into a one-night stand and it’s only after agreeing to a job set up by her sister that she realizes is the same man. Famous rock star Theo Eliot is the hottest musician on the planet and working in the same house everyday with Clemmie is not going to remain hands off for long.

Sisters, soul mates, and best friends. They plan, they support, they tease and they know. And Clemmie’s two sisters know Theo is the one for her. Their breakup spell guaranteed it.
I loved the closeness of the sisters. Their father is quite a trip but certainly comes through in the end. The hero is quite grumpy but turns to scrumptious soon enough.

Amusing and sexy. Romantic and dreamy.

I absolutely ate this book up! Thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for this eARC. I absolutely LOVED this rom com. Clementine is one of the sweetest most loveable characters, her sisters are badasses, and Theo is a dream. Clementine is the daughter of one of the biggest rockstars in the world and is having a bad time. Her job is ending, she's being broken up with, and she's carrying a lot of past trauma. She meets Theo Elliot the biggest pop star in the world and their lives change from there. I loved the main characters. I laughed, I teared up, and I would love to see spinoffs with the sisters as well. Highly recommend!

This was sweet but not as good as I was hoping for. It had lots of laughs and plenty of feelings.

The sisters cast a "spell" and that whole thing was unnecessary to the plot.

But Clemmie and Theo toghether were amazing. I loved any scene with the two of them in it.

Wow - absolutely loved this book from beginning to end. Easy to fall in love with the characters and while I blew through the story there was more substance and development than I expected. This story of three sisters focusing on Clemmie and her relationship with a superstar was a breath of fresh air. Fans of Center’s “The Bodyguard” will love this - similar vibes but different enough this is completely new. Highly recommend and can’t wait to see what else Wood has written - this was my first novel of hers.

This was such a wonderful rom com. There were genuine laugh out loud moments balanced really well by the tenderness and tension between Clemmie and Theo. It had a lot of tropes I love done super well: celebrity romance, forced proximity, a little bit of magic, and a close knit family.

Clementine is a lot of things, the daughter of an aging rockstar, a doctor in medieval literature, one third of a group of inseparable sisters, and someone who has been hurt one too many times and afraid to take risks. She has just been dumped by her boyfriend of 4 years, who took away her cat and almost all their furniture, she has just lost her job and it going to lose her flat as well. Her sister's ban together to cheer her up and they perform one of their witchy spells to help Clem move on.

At the funeral of a close family friend she meets a guy, they have an unforgettable one night stand and she leaves in the morning leaving behind only a note. She figures she will never see the guy again, then her sister asks her if she can babysit a rockstar in the English countryside while he writes an album. She figures it will be a way to make some money and give her time to figure out her next steps. What she doesn't expect is for the rockstar to be the guy who rocked her world not to long ago.

Clem doesn't really do the rockstar thing, and figures she can babysit him for the next 6 weeks no problem, and without any risk of feelings developing. What she doesn't expect is for Theo to be nothing like she imagines, and very hard to resist.

In her acknowledgements the author admits she didn't think she was capable of writing an adult romcom but holy crap was she wrong. This was fabulous, the banter, the silliness, the sisterhood bond, the chemistry, just everything was so well executed. The timing of this book felt so well paced, it was slow enough for the chemistry and romance to really grow, and hit every step for it to be believable. The fact that i loved a closed door romance this much, and the connection between the characters felt so sizzling is a true testament to the authors writing. I honestly have zero things i would change and I hope the author continues to write adult books.

Gosh, this book!!! I just love when I smile and laugh through an entire book and leave it feeling just so happy. That's exactly what this book did for me. I found Clemmie to be an absolute delight of a main character, and loved her growth. Theo was the perfect and most charming male counterpart, and he's definitely taking the book boyfriend position right now. I loved the development of their relationship. I loved how they learned how to communicate with each other, and gosh darnit I just loved their British humor! I want to also mention how sweet the relationship of the three sisters are as well- how they grew up together in sort of strange circumstances but are truly soul mates. I am highly recommending this book to all my friends, will be including it in the best summer reads lists for this year for sure, and will certainly be looking for more that this author writes in the future. There is no better feeling than when you binge read an entire book in a day, as I did Under Your Spell!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions within this review are my own.

This book was delightful- all the magic and sisterly love and a romance that was so fun to watch blossom. I loved seeing the whole thing play out while Clemmie grows and changes and figures out how to trust herself and take Theo at his word that he loves her. I feel like the light magic of this would be perfect for a fall cusp read with the first PSL of the year!

“But if I had three wishes, each one would be for you.”

BYEEEE. I’m deceased. Y’all this book was so CUTE, I’m in love with it as much as Clemmie and Theo are in love with each other. I think one of my new favorite subtropes is male celebrity with bad boy persona but is actually cinnamon roll. This also explains my real life crush on Harry Styles.

I liked that it wasn’t just Clemmie’s character growth we saw, moving on and making reconciliations with her past trauma, but also Ripp, her father and big time musician. I think her mom said it best— he’s not a bad person, just completely unaware of his actions and the effect they have on people. Unfortunately, said actions had caused a lot of daddy issues in Clem, and her ex boyfriend betraying her the way he did certainly did not help. So when Theo comes along, the biggest star there is currently, she’s thinking no way, I’m not being fooled thrice.
But it’s hard not to love a golden retriever. Especially when with the forced proximity trope that leaves them alone with each other for six weeks.

Of course, fame life gets in the way once they leave their little bubble, but overall I think it was handled maturely. Mistakes were made but communication did eventually happen which is important.

The writing was amazing and quippy, and I tabbed so many one-liners and zingers that had me cackling. There were a lot of fun and favorite moments in this and I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a book to just put a smile on their face.

Thank you Atria Books for my gifted copy!

Things are not going great for Clementine Monroe. Her boyfriend cheated on her and stole her cat. She has to move out of her apartment, and she lost her dream job.

She turns to her sisters for comfort. They are all 4 months apart, fathered by a famous rock star, with 3 different mothers. The sisters are very, very close.

She has her first one-night stand and it turns out, he is an ultra-famous rock star. She did not know this at the time, but it turns out he is THE rock star she has just agreed to spend the summer with, assisting her sister who works in the music industry.

The famous Theo Eliott has been having difficulty coming up with a new album. His record label has sent him into seclusion to work on it, and Clemmie is to oversee him.

Based on her past relationships in the music industry, she has sworn off all men who are tied up in music. Can she survive a summer in such close proximity to Theo? Will he come out of his slump and be able to write a new album?

I loved the characters, quirky and real. The story line was not exactly what I was expecting, but I was invested right off the bat. I was hoping for a little more of the “rock and roll” side of things. However, this was a very enjoyable summer read, one I would recommend!

We did get some depth into her relationship with her famous father, her sisters (and all of their mother’s) and her past relationship with her Granny Mac.

“Sometimes you have to take a risk, follow a fork in the road you didn’t see coming, to end up where you belong” ⁣

Oh I swooned, I cried, I fell in love! This book was so beautiful. ⁣

It’s like if Mick Riva was the father of 3 women by 3 different mothers and they all turned out amazingly normal. Then his daughter, who doesn’t really keep up with pop culture gets to essentially babysit the upcoming Mick Riva, but he’s actually a million times better. (and I’m sorry Theo, you are so much more than we imagined) oh did I mention they had a one night stand and had no idea who each other were? Cool cool cool. ⁣

Need a new book boyfriend? Meet Theo Elliott. Singer, songwriter, deeply caring happy famous person extraordinaire. Clementine Monroe, you were an amazing MC. Together, they were amazing. Plus, her mom, sisters, and even David? I was living for this cast of characters. Easily could read a series about them.⁣

Audio was wonderful. I honestly felt like it was dual narration, but it’s not! Ellie Heydon really made this book shine.⁣

I feel like this book actually sparkled with fun magic and friendship. The soundtrack was amazing, but all I could think of was this song. Out yesterday, one of my favorites of the year.⁣

QOTD: If you could have a MySpace like theme song for your page, what would it be? ⁣

Clementine and Theo are common book names these days... I've read multiple books with these names in them recently. Theo is pretty normal. But Clementine... weird. Names aside, this book was very good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I laughed out loud. I giddily kicked my feet. I cried. I felt all the feels. That's really all I'm asking for from these books. The bulk of the story is semi-normal girl Clementine and famous musician Theo navigating a what a relationship together would be like. It includes A1 acts of service, funny banter, and British humor. 4 ⭐️

One of my favorite 3rd act breakups in a while because it actually makes sense!! Such a solid read. We love a patient man! The characters have chemistry, but their friendship is everything! Loved the playful banter between the two main characters.

Very cliche but not in an annoying way. Your typical “I didn’t know he was a celebrity” “i love that she treats me like a human being” love story. If you’ve got a celebrity crush and youre delusional that they might ever date a normal person— this book is especially for you. As someone with 0 celebrity crushes, I still loved this. Perfectly paced and I loved all the likeable characters. A solid romance beach read!

Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for this book in exchange for an honest review.

I had such a great time with this. I think I smiled through most of this story. Theo is an absolute doll and must be protected at all costs. Every side character and family member was written beautifully. I was scared with a prologue because, well, we know how those go sometimes but it was a nice little look forward a bit.

Thank you Atria, Netgalley and Laura for allowing me access to an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. I look forward to reading more from Laura!

Quick and fun read with engaging characters that you'll love and root for while not wanting to put the book down or stop reading. Clemmie has had world class rotten day, losing her job and a breakup with her cheating boyfriend who's not only taking all the furniture but taking her cat too. She and her two sisters, born within 4 months of each other to the same rock star but 3 different mothers, got roaring drunk and sorta sent a combo wish/curse out into the universe. Next thing you know Clemmie has agreed to help her sister by being a personal assistant in a remote coastal village to a rock star needing peace and quiet as he works on his new album for six weeks. Except he's her just-broke-up-one-night-stand.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for providing the ARC.

This book had an interesting premise, but overall, I felt it a bit lacking.

There wasn't much that drew me into the characters. I didn't connect well with Clementine or Theo, and honestly, thought their initial meeting came off overwhelmingly strong. There was hardly any conversation before they had slipped into a one night stand, and while I can certainly understand that perhaps conversation isn't needed in that moment, it gave the reader almost no opportunity to learn anything about the two characters. Additionally, I felt that the first part of the book dragged on forever, and not in a good slow burn kind of way. There was hardly any tension between the two and it just felt more awkward than anything. Additionally, for a book that talks about a "Breakup Spell" in the summary, there was hardly any time spent on it. There was nothing that seemed otherworldly or magical about it, so it felt like it was just kind of there for no real reason. Ultimately, a lot of the book felt very flat to me.

I'm sure some people will enjoy this, but it didn't really do anything for me.

If Netflix doesn't pick this up as a movie, it's a missed opportunity! This was the hilarious rom-com I didn't know I needed. "Witchy" sisterhood, curvy fmc with daddy issues, down-to-earth charismatic mmc. I genuinely loved this story and highly recommend this quick read.
