I honestly just could not get into this book. The world building could have been a lot more detailed and the author could have taken more time to expand on it. The characters were not terrible, but I was not drawn to them. This is just personal preference, of course. No one book wins it all for everyone. I would not say that I wouldn’t recommend it, but I would have to be very considerate in who I would recommend it to keeping in mind personal likes and dislikes.

This was a really interesting concept for a fantasy novel, I really enjoyed the romance elements going through this book. I enjoyed that this dealt with two generations and how good those characters were. I enjoyed the way Ruth C Mitchell wrote this and left me wanting to read more.

The world was not clearly established and the characters were not compelling enough for me to care about them.

The premise of this book interested me but I wasn’t too crazy on the execution. The writing felt very blunt and clunky. There was a lot of telling instead of showing and I think the story progressed really quickly without much explanation. I wasn’t able to connect with any of the characters and never really got invested.

Any story that platforms women and shines a light on the injustice we all face deserves at least three stars. I do think a lot of people might like this style of writing but it just wasn’t for me.
