So much fun to share one of my favorite stories with my own daughters. The pictures were a delightful addition.
Thank you Tundra Books for a copy of Anne Dreams!
"Anne is starting to grow up, but she's still disappointed with her red hair — it's one of her lifelong sorrows. One day, she buys a bottle of hair dye in order to have raven black hair like her best friend and kindred spirit, Diana. Unfortunately, the dye ends up turning her hair green! This upset causes Anne to start focusing on improving herself inside, rather than her looks . . . and leads to a new dream taking shape: Anne wanting to become a teacher! She joins a club for students studying to get into Queen's College. But can Anne overcome her fear of failing? And how can she study hard when pesky Gilbert is distracting her?"
Loved this series and I felt like it had the same magic as the original books. The illustrations were a perfect touch!
Anne Dreams is a delightful illustrated chapter book inspired by Anne of Green Gables. It is the sixth and final book in the series.
The illustrations are beautiful and the storyline stays true to what I remember from the original. This was such a nostalgic read! It made me think of my childhood and watching the original tv mini series and reading the original books. It truly captures Anne’s spirit.
I read this as a digital arc but I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy in addition to purchasing the other books in this series.

These books are so delightful. I love them, everyone. I grew up reading the Anne books and watching the series, so these offer such nostalgia. The illustrations are so gorgeous. The story is also fantastic for young(er) children - never give up on your dreams, but more than that, it's okay to yourself. The story begins with Anne dyeing her hair and ends with her going off to college! These are so lovely and so charming. I recommend them to everyone.
The author retains the spirit of Anne Shirley in this adaptation made accessible for younger readers. Anne dreams of becoming a teacher and works very hard to achieve the goal of a place at Queen's College, the first step to becoming a teacher. The gentle artwork reflects the times in which Anne Shirley lived - mutton sleeves, carriage rides, poetry evenings, and one possible career option - teacher.
“Anne Dreams” by Kallie George - (5 Stars-Out Now) is the sixth and final book in the early chapter series based loosely on key plot points and characters from Anne of Green Gables. This adaptation by Kallie George stays true to the spirit of the source story and ties several cherished story lines together to bring young readers to the end of Anne’s childhood journey. The illustrations by Abigail Halpin add new and fresh, original art to a frequently illustrated story.
Good Things: The adaptation uses key quotes and plot lines from the original Anne of Green Gables to tell the “Anne Dyes Her Hair Green” the “Anne Studies to Go to College” and “Anne Graduates in the top of her college class - tied with Gilbert” storylines while also appropriately simplifying the concepts of determination and growing up for the early chapter book audience. The art is stylistically simple, but I appreciated the new versioning and spirit of the art for a story that’s been adapted and adapted again, over the last century. I also appreciated the reference to Gilbert being more interesting then previously considered and the sweet, romantic smile illustrated in the final pages. I also liked the images of Anne in all her stages of child and young adulthood from the previous books.
Final Thoughts: I love the original Anne and have always resented the reimagining of her story for younger audiences, not because I don’t think younger children can or should have access to her story, but because I’m a bit of a purist about the content, I want readers to come to the work as it was originally written. But as I’ve gotten older I realize that earlier entry points to good literature can only help bring the story to more and more readers. This adaptation not only does the original justice, it also very subtly teaches young readers how to make connections in stories, that more mature readers need to enjoy more complex content. Teaching kids how to be good readers is an amazing extra for this book. 100% would buy for the 4-8yo early chapter reader.

Anne Dreams by Kallie George was another beautiful installment in the Anne of Green Gables chapter book adaptations. First, I have to appreciate all the wonderful and detailed illustrations in this book. They have such rich, bright colors and feel very "Anne-like". The story itself is also very charming, covering the parts where Anne dyes her hair, her frenemy relationship with Gilbert Blythe, and her studying hard to get into Queen's College. I welcome this chance for younger children to get introduced to this classic and spunky heroine.
Anne Dreams is the last book in a series that is about Anne of Green Gables. This book is a small chapter book with 8 chapters and it deals with Anne's usual shenanigans as she prepares to move to off continue her school education. The illustrations are cute and Anne's story is forever in our heart's and will be in your child's once they read these books!
Love this series and loved this addition. Really makes the story of Anne accessible for young readers and I just adore the illustrations.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book.
We have loved he others in this series, and are sad it has come to an end. These books are perfect introductions to Anne and her life at Green Gables. The last in this series, it does not disappoint, and truth be told, we were hoping these would follow Anne as she grows. My soon to be kindergartner absolutely adored this series and loved this one just as much as the others.
This book fills a big need in the publication market. There are so many great picture books and middle grade books, but there aren't as many quality early chapter books. This is a great way to introduce kids to a classic series. It stays true to the story while making it accessible to lower readers. I wasn't a huge fan of the illustrations. They make sense in a retro sense because it's based on a classic, but I don't know how appealing they would be to modern readers.
Anne Dreams is the sixth and final ‘early chapter book’ for young readers in Kallie George’s series adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. This gentle, concise retelling continues Anne’s passion for dramatic language as she recounts her “lifelong sorrow” and being in the “depths of despair!” Young readers will have compassion for Anne as she faces another calamity while figuring out what matters is on the inside and decides to focus on her future. This narrative aids in discussions of how Anne is maturing, following her dreams and learning to overcome fears. Abigail Halpin uses graphite, watercolors and colored pencils in her delightful illustrations. She moves the story through facial expressions aiding young readers with interpreting the emotions of Marilla, Matthew, and Anne. The endearing cover draws readers into Anne Dreams. Just like Anne, prepare to be dazzled!
The illustrations make this book interesting, although the story seemed disconnected. Readers who are already familiar with the Anne of Green Gables stories will probably have an easier time reading and appreciating this book.

My review of Anne Dreams is published by Penguin Random House Canada | Tundra Books and Netgalley:
In The. sixth and final book in a series based on Anne of Green Gables, Anne Shirley pursues her dream of becoming a teacher.
Even though Anne is growing up, she’s still disappointed with her red hair. In order to emulate Diana, her best friend and kindred spirit, she buys a bottle of hair dye. Unfortunately, the dye turns her hair green! The upset causes Anne to focus on her internal improvement, rather than her appearance, which leads to a new dream: becoming a teacher! In order to get into Queen’s College, she joins a student club. Can Anne overcome her fear of failure? How Will she be able to study hard when Gilbert is distracting het?
I give Anne Dreams five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
So many adults have fond memories of reading the Anne of Green Gables series. In her books, Ms. George hopes to spark that same feeling in young readers. One hopes that they will then move on to the originals.
Ms. George has done a nice job in her series of six books in all. She captures the spirt of Montgomery’s language and phrasing. Favorite people are here including Marilla, Diana, Gilbert, Miss Stacey, and Anne, of course. While sadly, this is the last book, the set would make a nice gift for a summer reader.
In this entry, that is illustrated and has short chapters, Anne is unhappy with her trademark red hair. What will happen when she wants a change? What will she learn? What will she want to do with her life? Readers will enjoy finding out in this lovely end to the series.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada-Tundra Books for this title. All opinions are my own.
This little book is such a fun way to introduce younger readers to the world of Anne of Green Gables. I love the illustrations and the way it tells the story. A cute set of classics!
This was adorable!
I love Anne of Green Gables and I think Kallie George is doing a fantastic job adapting these stories!
I love the art work and it’s adorable!
My class has read each book up to this one during our social studies unit. I’m well familiar with the storyline and characters.
I found this story to be a bit quick and almost rushed compared to the others. It wrapped up the storyline in a hopeful way but was missing the sense of adventure I’ve grown used to in these tales.
The illustrations are unique and beautiful but this one just went by too quickly.
What a great first introduction to the world of Anne Shirley! Though the chapter cuts felt a little abrupt, I loved the story adapted for younger readers. Anne is as spunky and creative as ever. The illustrations fit the story perfectly, and I loved the hint at something more between Anne and Gilbert.
A huge thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for an advance copy of this book.
I didn't read the original Anne stories until well into adulthood, but remember watching the VHS tapes growing up. And once I did read them, I fell in love. This series of Anne retellings with illustrations and shorter chapters, are just what I would have loved as a kid. While the artists interpretations are not how I always envisioned the characters, they are lovely. I would get the set for any kids in my family.
