A neat twist on classic fae tales and Rosetti's poem. Equally good for teens and adult readers with a love of fantasy and fairy tales.

A modern day fairytale mash-up.
I loved this. My kids (4 & 6) loved this; they're basically a Mina and Millie and could relate to each sister's desires/choices.
The story is fun (if not a tad scary, because noone wants to be lost).
Into The Goblin Market RHYMES, giving it all the bonus points.
The illustrations are GORGEOUS with so much detail.
We will be purchasing our own copy for regular reading!

Delightfully spooky without being too scary and with a lovely message of sisterhood! The rhyme in this was spot on and would read so well aloud, and the illustrations were moody and dark and perfectly atmospheric for the text. Having not read the original poem, I can't compare the two versions but I very much enjoyed reading this one and will definitely recommend to lovers of spookiness and classic fairy tale vibes.

Millie and Mina are young sisters who live together on a quiet farm. Millie is happy with their life, but Mina wants to go on an adventure. One night, Millie wakes up to discover that Mina has run away to the Goblin Market. Mille must try to outsmart the goblins to save her sister.

This beautiful picture book is based on Christina Rossetti’s poem Goblin Market. This adaptation was a simpler form of the poem for young children to understand. This book was also not as dark as the original poem. The black, white, and red illustrations that went along with the text were beautiful and detailed.

Into the Goblin Market is a beautiful picture book!

Thank you Tundra Books for providing a digital copy of this book.

This is a wonderful retelling of the classic Christina Rosetti poem about a girl who falls under the spell of the goblin market, and the brave sister who rescues her. Vansickle has come up with her own delightful rhyme to tell the story again, and the illustrations by Jensine Eckwall are a perfect accompaniment. I enjoyed every moment of this book, and instantly wanted to read it again.

I suspect heartily children will feel the same way.

Into the Goblin Market by Vikki VanSickle was a classic fairy tale-type story about two sisters and the legend of the goblin market. Through clever rhyme and dark, monochromatic art we see the adventurous sister run off to the market and her other sister go and try to save her with cleverness. It is a charming tale and picture book for fairy tale fans, adults and kids alike.

I liked the illustrations and tone of this story, but it is an interesting choice to adapt for younger readers. This version loses some of the punch of the original.

A sweet retelling of Goblin Market and what you'll do for the ones you love. It was a sweet but cute book.

I liked this, but I didn't Love it. The artwork is truly spectacular, and my favourite part of the book. I really liked the rhyme as well, however it left me wanting just a little bit more. At a few points I felt like I had missed something and had to flick back a few pages (eg the wool in the ears). This is a sure thing for fall and Halloween though, it will fly off the shelves.

Love the art and story. Based on the title, I can assume that it is inspired by the poem “Goblin Market” by poet Christina Rossetti. I say inspired cause while the themes are the same, the plot are a bit different. Nonetheless I absolutely ADORED this beautiful picture book about sisterhood.

A unique retelling of Rossetti's Goblin Market that stays true to the spirit of the original poem while still telling its own story. A little bit spooky and a slightly longer story so I would recommend it for the slightly older range for picture books. The rhyming makes it fun, and the illustrations are a cool sort of woodcut style that I loved -- black and white with just a pop of red.

This picture book is a variation of Christina Rosetti’s Victorian poem, “The Goblin Market,” but there is no licking of juices in this version. In this version, we have fairy tale references mixed into the market, so that we see the Pied Piper, and witch with an apple. Plus, Millie wears a red riding hood, and encounters a wolf.

Like the original poem, one sister, Mini, is tempted by things at the market, and one is not, and it is the one that isn’t that has to rescue the other.
Not quite as scary as the original, but scary enough for kids to get that they shouldn't go to goblin markets. And good friends and good sisters are hard to find, and should be cherished.

Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. These opinion are completely my own.

I'm not sure which I preferred more, the stunningly detailed illustrations or the entertaining fairy tale. Wonderful book

As an aspiring hobby artist, any digital and/or traditional ink art always has a soft soft and bias for me. The cover, alone, was an instant grab. I want to pick up this book for my personal collection (ink art inspiration/references and otherwise).

Needless to say, the art exceeded my expectations. The illustrator is clearly masterful with texture and hatching. The amount of details in the background astounds me. I know what patience inking something like this book requires. This book also gives "red" as the sole color, which I noticed has been a trend for "black and white/inked" graphic novels for a while. I hope this illustrator gets a lot of credit and praise as I have.

The Dr. Seuss like rhyming tone to the story was an unexpected surprise. It really gives off a haunting, "Nightmare Before Christmas," "Tim Burton" vibe without overdoing the dark and scary natures. I find any book like "Into the Goblin Market" that can make children's stories in inked art styles to be an accomplishment of juggling "spooky" without being too dark/scary for children.

Thank you for sharing this story/poem. I look forward to more!

An amazing one of a kind story. Between the writing and artwork I could not get enough of this book. I will be making sure my store carries this so I can sell it. As well as purchase my own copy.

I have seen rave reviews of this book, and I will agree that the artwork is spectacular! I think I was expecting a little more from the writing, but it is still very good and I can easily see this becoming a family favorite.

Sisters Millie and Mina are complete opposites. Millie prefers a quiet life, tending to her farm. Mina like the busy life of the city. They are still good friends, as well as sisters.

When the Goblin Market comes to town, the sisters were warned of the dangers of going to the Market. Millie has no interest in leaving the farm, but Mina decides to go to the Gbolin Market, despite the warnings. Mina never returns home, sending Millie on a journey were she has to overcome her solitude and find MIna.Millie meets with Goblins she must defeat to get her sister home.

A beuatiful and fun picture book of fairy-tale villians, and as ode to Christina Rosselli's classic poem. This sia story of the bond between two sisters and is an absolute delight. The attention to detail in the illustrations, the sun and the moon are masterful, The borders are intricate and fit the story.

Well done. Recommended. Fantastic story book.

"A picture book ode to Christina Rossetti's classic poem and a clever homage to familiar fairy-tale villains, this story about two sisters will enthrall readers with its beautifully detailed art and enchanting writing.

Millie loves her quiet life on the farm, but Mina longs for adventure.

When the Goblin Market comes to town, Millie knows it's a bad idea. They've been told stories their whole lives about the dangers of the Goblin Market. But Mina just can't resist...

When Mina doesn't come back, it's Millie's turn to brave the market to bring her home. She will use all her smarts and all her courage to try to outwit the goblins and save her sister...but will it be enough?

This gorgeous and intriguing tribute to both "Goblin Market" by Christina Rossetti and classic fairy-tale villains is also a story about the bond between sisters and a celebration of courage, intelligence and resilience."

Two things I love coming together to form a third!

I love the original Goblin Market story by Rosetti, so I just had to see what kind of new imagining this book is!
I love the art style, and I think it lends itself well to the story. Striking black and white illustrations with just a pop of red make the story eerie and enticing for readers. The art style reminds me of Edward Gorey, who I also love dearly.
A great retelling of a classic tale! Def will be recommending this one to families in the fall, and when the moon is full!

I absolutely loved the illustration style, it matches the theme perfectly. I really liked the use of red in the pictures.

I only read the original poem this is based on after reading this book, but you can clearly see how that and Little Red Riding Hood have inspired this story.

This would be the perfect spooky book to read during Halloween.
