While I had high hopes for this Polish legal thriller, I gotta admit Mroz lost me. It's topical to be sure but I also found it confusing. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC.
Good book! A few times I wasn't sure where the book was going but geez what a book! The storyline was very interesting! It definitely had me glued to my Kindle! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, mystery, double crossing, a great plot twist and a crazy ending that I didn't see coming! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Final Appeal.
I like legal thrillers as long as it's not full of legal-ese and has plenty of drama and suspense, like a Law & Order episode.
Final Appeal didn't hit the mark for me, mostly because it was tedious, long, and boring with a serious dearth of suspense and urgency.
Most of the narrative is exposition about the trainee and his mentor 'bonding' and her mocking him with childish nicknames.
There's plenty of legal jargon, duplicity, and a conspiracy, and the final reveal comes at the end, but I didn't feel it was worth the dull exposition that came before it.
I think some of the issues I had with the story comes from the author's tone and writing style' I'm not a fan of it.
The mafia style boss and his goon read like caricatures of every stereotypical cliche found in books and movies. Every time the boss told his goon to put a beatdown on someone, I laughed. I'm sure that's not the reaction the author had in mind when he kept writing those scenes.
I may check out the show on Prime. I think this might be the rare case where the show is better than the book.
