This was book two in the series but definitely can be read as a stand alone.
This was such an interesting and engaging story.
You have a serial killer who achieves his crimes by hacking systems. Really resonates when you think about how connected we are to computers everywhere.
If you are crossword puzzle lover this is the book for you!
It’s not gory with details but obviously does have death.
Once again Woodhouse had me on the edge of my seat. And not only because of the intensity of what was happening in the story, but also because I was thinking about what would happen if everything she wrote happened in real life. Like in my neighborhood. Goodness it's scary to think about, but exciting to read!
Now let's talk about my favorite part of the book - the crossword puzzle clues! I thought they were brilliant, engaging, and so much fun. What a creative way to not only get the reader involved, but make things interesting for the characters! I want more of them in fact - can we have a repeat please? And maybe we solve the case based on the clues as readers instead of the characters? In all seriousness, I thought this was such an amazing addition to the story.
If you haven't read book one in the series, I highly recommend reading that book first. It'll give you a lot of background that I feel is important to this story. Plus it's really good so you're gonna want to read it anyways! I can't wait for the next book. I know it's going to be amazing!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Prepare yourself to read the entire book - start to finish - in one setting! Yes, it is that good - on the edge of your seat good! Kimberley does it again! This new series: 26 below and 8 down are frighteningly possible and very well written! Treat yourself! Definitely worth the read! This book was provided through Net Galley, the author and publisher. The opinions are my own.
Kimberly Woodhouse has done it again in 8 Down. She has made a thriller true to life as she did in 26 Below. She has done her research about cyber security hacking. Each character seem like they could be someone that lives down the street. The romance was quick and believable in that the characters saw each other dealing with pressure. They weren’t able to put up a front for each other. I liked that faith came into the story. This book was hard to put down! I can hardly wait for the next one.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
"He wasn't as familiar with municipality systems as he would be corporate, but hackers were hackers. Once he went down the rabbit hole, he knew he'd better be prepared."
Carrie Kintz is thankful for the opportunity to be working for a state bureau of investigations, even if she is sent to Alaska. But as bodies begin to pile up, she recognizes that a serial killer is on the loose. Is she up to this task for her very first case?
Scott Patteson is an expert at cyber security. Watching Carrie at work inspires him. He has drawn to her, but the timing does not seem to work. Can they solve the crime while supporting each other?
This is one of the cleverest suspense books I have ever read. Clues to the crimes are connected to crossword puzzles. Determining how all of the clues are connected is an important part of the plot. While the details are not graphic, this book is intense. In fact, if the crimes came true that are mentioned in this book, it would be petrifying. What can happen in the cyberworld is frightening.
This book has overlapping characters from the first book in the Alaskan Cyber Hunter series, so read "26 Below" first is recommended. (That book is equally fantastic and also worth reading.) But if one picked up this title first, the scenarios would still be understandable. After reading these books, one will never look at the world in the same way again.
I did receive an advanced copy of this book. After reading the first book in the series, I knew I had to read the second one too. So many clever twists and turns. All opinions are my own.
Wow, what a page turner! Kimberley Woodhouse continues her epic Alaskan Cyber Hunter series with the latest, 8 Down, and let me tell you—it is unputdownable!
I love the way Woodhouse perfected the blend of nail biting suspense, sweet romance, and solid faith in this tale! It picks up right where 26 Below left off, so we are smack dab in the middle of trying to solve this puzzling whodunnit!
Who is behind all of these cyber attacks? Where will they strike next? What do all of the crossword clues mean?? Will Carrie, Scott, and the team be able to solve the puzzles and prevent more deaths from occurring?
If you love reading books by Christian suspense authors Natalie Walters, Lynn H. Blackburn, or Elizabeth Goddard, I highly recommend you pick up a copy of 8 Down. I already can't wait for 70 North to release so we can continue this saga and get to the bottom of things!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Wow! This book was such an incredible edge of your seat page turner from Kimberly Woodhaven! The story follows the cyber attack from 26 below, but through the perspective of Carrie and Kintz. They both are trying to keep up with the killer who claims to have killed at least 8 people and counting. It is quite interesting to see them try to solve it . One of my favourite things about the book is how it switches perspectives between the two main characters along with the antagonists, Gritz. I found it very interesting and it gives you a different perspective of the book. Another thing that I love is how Gritz, the killer, kept leaving clues in crosswords. I love puzzles so I tried to solve the crossword each time one appeared which made this romantic suspense much more intriguing.
Overall, this books was amazing! I have never read a cyber security book about hackers and it was perfectly written and the action never stopped! The Christian aspects were great and I loved all the twists and turns. I can't wait for the third book!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Well....this was creepy. Oh my goodness, this villain is crazy and super creepy. I did really enjoy the story! Great writing! I loved Carrie Kintz's character, even though she was stressed out at trying to track down the bad guy she stayed strong. Cyber-attacks are scary! Scott Patteson was there to help her, and I really liked their relationship. They worked very well together. I also loved the faith elements that were included in the story. This book definitely kept me wanting to read until it was finished, because I was very much wanting to know how it would turn out! Definitely recommend!

8 Down is the chilling sequel to 26 Below by Kimberly Woodhouse. This romantic suspense cyberthriller takes up where the previous book ends, but this time there are two new investigators on the newest twist to the terrorist(s)’ plans. Carrie is a rookie investigator with the Alaska Bureau of Investigation. She is plunged into a case featuring multiple murders with multiple causes, yet all pointing to one diabolical hacker. Scott joins the case with his strong cyber-credentials. There are others on the case as well, but the focus is on Carrie and Scott as they seek to uncover the twisting clues and develop a romantic relationship. The subject matter is pretty intense and frightening. Hackers are able to access personal laptops, medical records, traffic lights — you name it — in an effort to cause mayhem and death. The reader is introduced to the bad guy right away, and the look into a psychopath’s mind is intense! As I said, this book continues the first book in the Alaskan Cyber Hunters series, and while I didn’t have a problem getting up to speed, I should have read book one first. That’s definitely on the agenda now! A strong faith message rounds out the romance and suspense nicely. Both main characters are believers, but they have the same doubts and foibles that we all do. I also really liked the setting. Most of the action takes place in Anchorage, a town I have visited twice. It was fun to join the characters for meals at a restaurant we also loved.
If you like your suspense fast-paced, your romance sweet, and your bad guys over the top 😉 , you are going to love 8 Down!
Recommended!
Audience: adults.
(Thanks to the publisher for a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are mine alone.)
8 Down is the second novel in the Alaskan Cyber Hunters trilogy and if you thought the first novel was intense then just you wait. This novel was one heart-pounding moment after another with scarcely a breath in between. The fact that the time ticks down with the use of crossword puzzles is so incredibly clever and added a unique charm to an otherwise dark tale. I loved watching them solve the puzzles while I myself also tried to solve them with the clues at the beginning of each section and chapter.
Not only do we get to bear witness to the investigation into the cyberattacks but we get to hear the thoughts from the man behind the terror, his evil personified on the pages. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Carrie. Here she is in a new state that feels like a whole new world, not knowing anyone and is the lead on a high profile case. I can see how she would second guess herself and her choices the deeper into the investigation she gets, but I admired her tenacity and determination to stay focused and solve this case.
I’m usually a sucker for a good love story but sadly that was the one part that felt forced to me. I didn’t feel like the intensity we’re supposed to believe happens between Carrie and Scott is organic and would’ve preferred if that arc was left out completely. I think the fact that it was sandwiched in between such intense suspense made it pale in comparison to the main narrative.
I love this series so, so much and hate that I have to wait to see its conclusion. It is highly entertaining, the characters are wonderfully fleshed out, and the scenes so incredibly vivid. I love the whisper of faith that is breathed throughout and the suspense and action are unparalleled. I seriously cannot wait to see the conclusion of this trilogy and cannot recommend this series highly enough.
Are you ready to read a fast-paced high high-intensity thriller novel? This is book two in a series and you really need to read book one first. I personally am waiting rather impatiently for book three to come out! These books read so fast and you simply cannot put them down because they’re that intense and full of action!
The characters are amazing. You’re going to be guessing til the end on who the bad guy is. And in actuality, you’re gonna keep wondering and watching even after the book is over because you need to read book three! Or maybe that’s just me!
I love a good book and this author always delivers! The hardest part of reading her books is that the whole series doesn’t come out at the same time! I want to read them all in succession and move on the moment I finish to the next one!
OKAY. SO I SHOULD TELL YOU SOME ABOUT THE BOOK.
But I also can’t say too much or I’ll give away details you shouldn’t know yet!
Our main characters are a cyber geek Scott (who is friends with the people from our first book!) and an ABI officer named Carrie. She’s brand new on the scene and this is her first case. Can she figure out who is behind the deaths before they start piling up? Someone is killing people. But not so much with knives and guns but with hacking skills. People getting the wrong medications or traffic lights are being hacked and causing accidents etc.
Add in the fact that the killer is sending them clues in the form of crossword puzzle clues. It’s always the 8-down clue. Can they figure them out and stop the deaths? Will they catch the actual killer this time?

I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
Kimberly Woodhouse’s latest masterpiece, 8 Down! is a suspense-filled novel that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. As the temperature drops, the tension rises, keeping you hooked until the very last page. Join Carrie Kintz , a new agent with the Alaska Bureau of Investigation in Anchorage, and the brilliant security specialist Scott Patteson, as they race against time to prevent a catastrophic disaster. It takes them awhile to realize that the key to the hints they are receiving are in the daily crossword puzzles in various publications. Will they be able to decipher the hints and stop the impending threat before it’s too late?
I have to admit, I’m not a fan of winter, even here in the ‘south’. But after reading 8 Down, I gained a whole new appreciation for the milder winters I experience. The chilling Alaskan setting described in this book really brought it to life and made me realize the terrifying impact of a widespread power outage. The author’s vivid descriptions and attention to detail made me feel like I was right there with Carrie and Scott, experiencing every tense moment. The plot’s realism is what truly sets this book apart, as it feels like a gripping scenario that could happen in our society at any given time. I wish I could tell you more without giving away any spoilers, but trust me when I say, if you love suspense-filled reads, you absolutely need to get your hands on 8 Down.
This is a great suspense that grabs you from the first page. I liked how the author connects this book with the first one in the series and sets it up for the next book. I thought the author did a great job of making us want to keep reading and to figure out what would happen next and why the bad guy was doing what he was doing. I liked how the team of characters worked together to try to solve the case. I thought she gave us wonderful characters that we could connect to and cheer for. I can’t wait to read the conclusion to this series and see how everything resolves.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
8 Below is written by Kimberly Woodhouse. This is the second book in the Alaska Cyber Hunters series. I have read both books - but they can be read as stand alone books. This book starts out with action and suspense and keeps it flowing throughout the whole book.
Investigator Carrie Kintz has been on the job with the Alaska Bureau of Investigation in Anchorage for only a couple of months. Then she becomes the lead on a major case. Someone is killing people and the clues that they leave are in the form of a crossword puzzle, and it’s always 8 down. It is not long until Carrie starts to realize that there may be a looming cyber attack.
He’s claimed to have killed eight people already and threatens to kill eight more. Soon they realize that traffic lights and pacemakers have been hacked. The killer then taunts them through the media telling the citizens of Anchorage that the Alaska Bureau of Investigation can’t stop him.
Scott is part of a cyber security firm and is brought in to help them put the pieces of the puzzle together. I liked the way that they worked together. Carrie and Scott have a lot going on and they complimented each other nicely. I liked how the author kept throwing in twists and turns - and it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat.
I have been loving this Alasa Cyber Hunter Series. I cannot wait until the next story. Thank you to the author, publisher and JustRead publicity tours for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own,.
The Serial Killer in 8 Down is ruthless, obtaining pleasure from each kill and delighting in breaking others down. The corrupt antagonist remains a mystery, as he strikes unpredictably. Investigator Carrie Kintz leads her team in a frantic race to catch the killer before the next attack. Surrounded by chaos, Carrie finds love with Scott Patteson, a security expert assisting in the investigation. As they work against time to stop the killer, a romance blooms. Together, they decipher clues, including those hidden in the daily crossword puzzle at 8 Down, where the killer leaves his mark through cyber attacks that claim lives.
8 Down is an engaging tale powerfully told by Carrie, Scott, and the cryptic killer. Readers will be on edge trying to piece together the puzzle clues. I was even thinking about the clues while I fell asleep.
Even with 8 Down being part of a series, this standalone novel seamlessly blends in past events. The Alaskan backdrop, intense suspense, and captivating characters make for a riveting read that will keep readers enthralled until the final page.
I loved this romantic suspense novel. I loved all the action and the romance. I loved that the story flows very well. I loved Carrie and Scott. I felt that Carrie as an agent and Scott as the cyber guy were a great pair. I did not want the story to end and I could not put it down. I received a copy of the book from the publisher for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

My thoughts and opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on the writing and story’s mysterious and thrilling content, ensuring transparency and reliability.
A haunting tail of cybercrime and serial killings with a heavy dose of romance. I liked the cybercrime aspects and how the crossword clues were connected. I do feel you should read the first book in the series to really understand what’s happening and why.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was not required to leave a review. All opinions are my own honest thoughts.
You have never worked a crossword puzzle like this-- 8 Down is the clue to the next murder! It is scary to realize what is possible with today's technology in the wrong hands! I admired Carrie Kintz who has just begun working for the Alaska Bureau of Investigation and is in charge of this murder case which becomes multiples. I also admired her boss for letting her be in charge of the case. Security specialist Scott Patteson could be a distraction but everyone must keep their mind on the case as more murders happen daily. 8 Down is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. However, the madman is still alive at the end of this book. I can't wait for the next book! I received a complimentary e-book through the author and NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.
This was book two in the Alaskan Cyber Hunters. A thrilling, psychotic, edge of the seat ride that had my heart pounding. Carrie, investigator with the ABI, finds herself combing through clues from crossword puzzles left by a serial killer. He brags about being so intelligent and clever and puts Carrie down for not figuring out his clues. In comes Scott who specializes in computer science to help the ABI Team with the hacks the killer is using. One by one each clue leads to another murder. All are stressed out with little sleep and are drowning in coffee.
I liked that prayer was used a lot knowing that they were in over their heads and God was their only hope. This book was filled with frustration, tears, emotions and a touch of romance. See if you can figure out the crossword clues the killer is leaving on his 8 down puzzles.
I received a complimentary ebook from the publisher but was not required to write a review.
