This book was everything I want to read/listen to. The romance with thriller, suspense, and mystery is everything to me. I did not see where this book was going. I really enjoyed listening!

I really like Kiersten Modglin's writing so I was excited to get started with this one. It ended up being a little slow in the beginning as we bounce between past and present events to establish the relationships. It took me a bit to get into it and understand the suspense aspects of the story, which seemingly stem from one character's past.

Once I got into it, though, it captivated me. The last 30% of the story were riveting and full of twists -- and THE twist at the end that unravels everything you thought you knew the whole time -- that's what I love about her writing.

Aside from the story, the audio file had a ton of issues and I missed the whole 27th chapter thanks to an annoying glitch. Netgalley was also down several times when I was trying to listen on their app, making it a less than pleasant listening experience.

I've recently discovered this author and become a huge fan. When I had the opportunity to review this audiobook, I jumped at it. Hemlock was absolutely wonderful. It kept me mesmerized from start to finish and I loved every minute. The narration was strong and fit the story and characters. It only enriches the story more in truth.

So, what's the book about? It's a little bit second chance romance, a little bit friends to lovers, a little bit ghost story/haunted house, a little bit psych thriller and a bit romantic suspense....and more. Maggie, Clayton and Tucker are in a complicated love triangle. It's toxic on a good day and on a bad day....well let's just say, there's no love lost between Clayton and Tucker. There's a great deal to the story and you get the bits and pieces spread throughout it. The book bounces between past and present and you get some parts at just the perfect times in the story.

So basically this author has knocked another one out of the park with this book. And the audiobook was quite enjoyable as well. Thank you to NetGalley for the early listening copy. I chose to listen to and review it and the opinions contained within are my own.

I listened to this book while I was on plane, and didn't get much out of it. She is stuck between past and present and two guys. One tries to manipulate and kill her, while the other is genuine. Didn't get much out of it honestly.

I think at this point I am done with Kiersten Modglin. This book is allegedly suspense but it's WAY more concentrated on the love triangle between MC Maggie and her "best friend" Clayton, who she's had a crush on forever, and Tucker, a salt of the earth bartender she met trying to make Clayton jealous.

In our current timeline, Maggie has just bought the house she always loved growing up in her small town. It's a bit of a mess, but she doesn't mind; she has some inheritance money from her mom's death so she can fix up the house and try to make a go of being a painter. All fine. Then she realizes that Tucker is her next door neighbor, as he has inherited the house he grew up in from his grandpa. These two haven't seen each other for years, after they stopped speaking due to the aforementioned love triangle.

What follows is a dual-timeline story in which we play out the events of 15 years ago, when Clayton toyed with Maggie's affections, then took off for Nashville to be a country music star, then returned to their college town engaged. Cue Tucker, who offers to stand in as Maggie's pretend BF. Naturally, they catch feelings and it goes kind of downhill from there.

In the current timeline, Maggie is having all sorts of house problems: the heating is on the fritz, she finds a lit candle in the house, things are starting to feel like there's a paranormal element at work, then Maggie finds out the house's secret.

If you like your books with a VERY heavy handful of romance (and long, drawn out sex scenes; seriously, I had to fast forward because they felt endless, then this might work for you. I got annoyed with the MC very early in the book (SO MUCH PINING) and I couldn't get back any momentum. The story is kind of predictable, and there's some red herrings tossed about to throw you off, but ... not enough to make the ending unguessable.

2.5 stars rounded down. Brittany Pressly doesn't do it for me.

I really enjoyed this book! The audio narration was wonderful. Such a good mixture of romance, thriller, and suspense. Thank you for the opportunity to listen.

When it comes to thriller i really dont like romance element on it but KMod made it work. I like how whatever spicy scenes she has is quick-just a sentence or two is enough. Maybe it is just me but this piece is a bit slower compared to other kmod books. But then again, still got me enthralled!

To know KMod is to love KMod. Not only are the endings always blowing my mind, but the build up is incredibly enjoyable. I’ve now taken to trying to guess the most outlandish ending imaginable and she somehow still throws me for a loop every time!

This was my first book from this author as well as my first audiobook from the narrator.
I absolutely loved this story, plot, writing, and the twists! It kept me guessing until the end. The last line about the photo was my absolute favorite part that brought the whole story together!
The narrator was really good! I prefer dual or duet narration typically due to my distaste for women voicing men. However, Brittany did a wonderful job and I thoroughly enjoyed her female and male narration. I will definitely look for her audiobooks in the future!
Thank you so much for letting me listen to this great audio!!

Wow!! I finished this one earlier today and I need to wait a few hours to get my review together. The story is told from dual timelines, then and now. And it really worked well for this story.
I loved the haunted house vibes that we got from
this story. There is a love triangle plot but it was told well and it kept me intrigued to what happened in the past and current. The author did a wonderful job with the suspense and mystery elements. The narrator, Brittany Pressley narration kept me hooked from
The very beginning. She whisked me away to this small town with big secrets. She truly breathes life to Maggie and many of the other characters.
There were a few plot twists in the story and one took me completely by surprise.
This story is perfect for fans who enjoy some supernatural elements, romantic suspense, love triangle and dual timelines. This story is the sort that will stay with you for a while.

A very special thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC.

Maggie Ellis leaves her small town of Myers in order to put a painful relationship behind her, but thirteen years later she returns and moves into a house with a dark past and a familiar neighbour.

Lord help me. This was almost a DNF but I finished it out of spite. The description of the book made it sound like it was a supernatural spooky story about a house with secrets and sinister elements, but what it turned out to be was a schlocky romance with a protagonist who was extremely difficult to empathize with and two potential love interests who were actual literal opposites of each other. One a saintly figure, who kept coming back to Maggie (glutton for punishment maybe?) and one old platonic best bud who Maggie pines over (and I’m still not understanding why).

I have one more book in the queue by this author, so I’ll give her another chance, but seriously- I will never get these hours back and it stings :(

I received a free audiobook copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

**Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC of this title**

I wish more emphasis had been placed on the "romance" aspect of this book than the mystery/thriller.

I don't usually read romance and kept waiting for scraps of the "psychological thriller" that Hemlock was described as.

For fans of small town romance and fake dating - you will really enjoy this! It just wasn't for me.

Hemlock is a delightful mix of romance and suspense, with just the right amount of twists and plenty of character building. I found this to be a very entertaining read and flew right through it in one sitting, eager to find out what would happen next.

Brittany Pressley did a fantastic job narrating the audiobook.

Thank you Kiersten Modglin, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for providing this ALC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.

I'm convinced that Kiersten Modglin couldn't even write a bad book if she tried. She has once again hit it out of the park with this one. It was full of twists and turns and I could not figure out who was behind all the mischief who I could trust. I found this one to be very dynamic and exciting throughout the entire book. I really had no idea how it would end but thought the ending was perfect. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I've read a few thrillers by Kiersten Modglin before so I thought I knew what to expect when I started this one. I was completely wrong. This was much different than the fast paced thrillers I'm used to. This was a slow burn and romantic suspense. I loved the haunted house vibe. I spent so long wondering if she was being stalked or haunted. The plot was engaging and the mystery was chilling. And while the spice was minimal, I loved the chemistry and passion in it. I highly recommend this for fans of romantic suspense.

Really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. Finished it in just a couple days because it was so good!! I think it’s more of a romantic suspense rather than a thriller, but it was just the kind of story I needed for these cold nights, snuggling under a warm blanket and listening to a good audiobook. The main character Maggie is relatable and easy to love. After her mother’s death, she moves back to her hometown and buys a house she’s had her eye on for quite some time. Strange things start happening to her in the home and she struggles with what to do next. Along with her new home troubles, she finds herself in an awkward love triangle. It was such a great dark romance that kept me on my toes! Absolutely loved the ending as well. Also- the narrator was incredible, which kept me engaged the entire time.
