This one was a lot different than any of her other ones that I have read.
This one is more romance novel with a little bit of thriller thrown in there. You can't skip out on the thriller with Kiersten Modglin.
It took me a little while to get into it. We go between the past and present. I did the audiobook so at first I would miss what time we were in. Maggie buys a house and weird things are happening. Weird like it is haunted and I am not a fan of books with these references but we do eventually learn more about why this house could be haunted.
We finally get some answers about everything towards the end and it is nothing short of suspenseful! Overall, another good one my her! A little longer than her others so we really get more connected to each character.

Returning to her hometown thirteen years after a hasty exit, Maggie Ellis is forced to confront the two men she loved desperately before tumultuous night and a murder forced her to flee
I love this book! It crosses 'My Best Friend's Wedding' vibes with 'Single White Female' vibes. and I found it really hard to put down. I loved the twists and turns and didn't see the big reveal coming. My only criticism is that since both the flashback storyline and the current timeframe involve the exact same people and not a ton of time has passed (I forget how old they are but like 19 v 29 or something rather than like 19 and 50), it was sometimes very hard to keep the two straight.
Love this author so much, can't wait for more from her!
Also, I LOVE the cover.

K Mod strikes again!! This book is three parts angsty romance, one part thriller, all domestic suspense and SO good!! It moves quick and had me sucked in the entire time.
I really love how well Kiersten Modglin mixes romance and thriller elements into her books in a way not many authors can. If you were a fan of The Reunion or The Missing by her, this book is definitely for you!
Brittany Pressley narrates the audiobook and she’s one of my favorite narrators ever so 10/10 perfection. No notes. Highly recommend listening to this book if you can! The audio releases next week!
Thanks as always to @netgalley for the advanced listening copy in exchange for my honest review!

Thank you, NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this thrilling audiobook.
I don't know what I was expecting reading the prompt for this book. Surely when I requested it I didn't imagine such a story.
Is this a ghost story? Is this a mystery? Is this a romance?
Hemlock is everything and I finished it in two days just because life got in the middle.
I was intrigued by the very first chapters and the three main characters were truly captivating.
The story is told by Maggie PoV, going back and forth between Now and Then.
We discover her story piece by piece, building it up until the very few chapters where all the plot is unraveled seamlessly and beautifully.
I don't want to say too much because I don't want to spoil it. I think everyone needs to go into this book a little blind to be positively surprised.
Anyway, I LOVED IT!
If you enjoy:
- love triangle
- fake dating
- hunted house
- mystery
- plot twists (minor and huge)
then this is for you!

Yes, yes, yes, and more yes! I was enthralled by this book. I loved the main character. I loved the love triangle. I loved the perfect amount of spookiness. I loved the twists. Also, the cover is absolutely stunning!

I’d love to say KMod has done it again - she has, but even better!
Hemlock is a fast paced, addictive romantic suspense with the perfect combination of thriller, mystery and romance.
Maggie has moved back to her home town and bought her first house. Almost instantly weird things start happening to the house and she’s wondering, on top of all the renovations required if she’s made a huge mistake.
Add a love triangle between two men from her past and we have a fire cracker, thriller-spicy story. Alternating between past and present tense we follow Maggie’s story with the house, the ex and the best friend. With KMod’s signature twists and turns plus added romantic element, she’s written my new favourite of hers!
I was gifted an 🎧 ALC, the narration by @britpressley was outstanding. Many thanks to @netgalley and @dreamscape 💌

This Romantic suspense story is top notch.
This author never disappoints! When returning to her hometown the fmc does not know what's in store but it's not at all what she anticipated. We'll written twists and turns with romance pulsing throughout.

Hemlock isn't your typical Kiersten Modglin thriller. This is more of a romance novel with elements of thriller and suspense thrown in. This book will delight fans of the love triangle trope. If you're not a fan of romance novels, don't worry, Hemlock has plenty of suspense and creepy elements woven throughout. I'm not a fan of romance, but I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. I especially loved the fast-paced ending that integrated the edge-of-your-seat thriller elements we've all come to expect and love from KMod. The story is told from dual time-lines between the past and present, which adds complexity and intrigue to the story. This one may not satisfy die-hard thriller fans, but it is a must read for those who enjoy romance and domestic suspense. Based upon my genre preferences I'd rate Hemlock as 3.5 stars and round up to 4 stars for overall writing.

Are we really surprised that another book by K-Mod has me surprised?!? No, not at all!! Kiersten Modglin is a master at what she does! When I say this audiobook had me creeped out, yall! Let me tell you what … I was listening while driving and I was legit scared someone was in my truck with me!!! Stayed up multiple nights listening way longer than I should have as this was just too good to turn off and go to sleep. I can’t stop thinking about it and recommending to everyone to pick this one up!!
Easiest 5 stars given ever! I highly recommend this one! The book is out now but the audiobook drops on December 5th and I say wait for that! It’s so good! It’s mesmerizing and so engaging! Be prepared to binge listen to this awesomeness that will have you on the edge of your seat & listening at record speed!
A huge shoutout to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this ALC of Hemlock in exchange for my honest review! It’s awesome! Going blind and enjoy the ride!!

Hemlock, by Kiersten Modglin, graciously provided in advance by Dreamscape Media and Netgalley, presents an intriguing blend of genres that leans more towards romance, specifically in the form of a three-way love triangle, than a conventional thriller. This novel uniquely intertwines dual time settings, adding a layer of complexity and depth to the narrative.
The essence of "Hemlock" lies in its ability to portray characters as average, everyday individuals, making them highly relatable to readers. This grounded representation of characters is one of the book's strengths, as it allows the audience to easily connect and empathize with the characters' experiences and emotions. The love triangle at the heart of the story is well-developed, offering a fresh perspective on romantic dynamics and conflicts.
Although the book is marketed as a thriller, its emphasis on romantic elements might come as a surprise to some Modglin readers. Those expecting a high-octane, suspense-driven plot might find the pace and focus on romantic entanglements a bit off the traditional path of a thriller. However, this does not diminish the overall quality of the narrative; rather, it adds a unique flavor to the genre.
The dual time settings are another highlight, offering a compelling narrative technique that enriches the story. This approach allows for a more nuanced exploration of themes and character development, presenting the story from different angles and timelines. It adds an element of mystery and anticipation as the plot unfolds in both the past and present.
In conclusion, "Hemlock" is recommended for readers who appreciate a touch of romance interwoven into their domestic thrillers. It's a novel that challenges the boundaries of its genre, offering a fresh and engaging reading experience. While it may not satisfy those seeking a pure thriller, it will undoubtedly appeal to readers who enjoy a well-crafted, character-driven story with romantic nuances.

Thank you Dreamscape Media and Net Galley for this audiobook. Kiersten Modglin is a go to author for me so I couldn't wait to listen to this.
Maggie Ellis left her hometown hoping never to return again.
Now tragedy has brought Maggie back. She has purchased her dream home. Once inside she feels as if someone is watching her. Strange things keep happening inside the house that she can't explain and she feels as if she is loosing her mind.
The narrator has you on the edge of your seat with the then and now time lines. This one has more romance in it than her usual thrillers. I enjoyed the fake dating, forced proximity and second chances.

“Hemlock” By Kiersten Modglin @kmod
📕 Edition: Audiobook
A gripping combination of romance and thriller. A tale of love, secrets, and a haunting past.
The protagonist, Maggie Ellis, is a compelling character with a past she can't escape. The tension builds as she returns to her hometown, and the atmosphere is thick with suspense. The writing is so vivid that I felt the unsettling sensation along with Maggie—every room held secrets, and I was hooked on the mystery.
The blend of psychological thriller and romantic suspense is seamless, it kept me on the edge of my seat. As Maggie unravels the grim history of her new home, the plot twists hit like a sledgehammer.
Overall, It’s a dark and twisted journey that proves home is not always a sanctuary, but a place where buried secrets can come to light.
Thank you @NetGalley and @dreamscapre_media for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #DreamscapeMedia for the ARC #Hemlock by #KierstenModglin. I thoroughly enjoyed this book with the relationships, the past and present and the drama and mayhem. The major twists in this book are incredible. Or left me wanting more.

I really liked this romantic suspense! I think the narrator contributed SO much to this story! Great emotion in her voice as reading. This is told in two timelines but it is easy to follow.
Would recommend if you like:
-multi-timeline
-love triangle
-mystery & secrets to unfold
-creepy setting
I love Kiersten Modglin's creepy settings (looking at you: The Quiet Retreat -- my favorite). This house gave me all the heebie jeebies. The characters were good and as we learn more about them it is fun to have secrets revealed. I enjoyed the whole book and liked the romance and suspense wound together.
Thank you to Dreamscape via Netgalley for the ARC to read and review!

After reading the book summary I thought this would have been more of a thriller.
Instead the main focus was the love triangle between Maggie, Tucker & Clayton, including flashbacks to different past scenarios that felt redundant.
The "suspense" of what was going on in her home felt like an after thought.
Ultimately not my favorite of KMOD’s but I’ll still read her future books :-)
Huge Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

Maggie Ellis left Myers her hometown a long time ago and said she wouldn’t return. However after a breakup with Nick and her mother’s passing- she decides it is time to go home.
She purchases a house she has always loved but soon discovers there’s something sinister about her new home…
Things are even more complicated when Tucker a guy she knew from college and had a relationship ends up next door.
Additionally her best friend Clayton who was her first crush returns to Myers with his beautiful girlfriend Raven
However, guys seem genuine in wanting to be there to help Maggie.
The chapters alternate between now and then and leave the reader wanting to read more. The creepy house certainly had me curious.
Although this wasn’t what I expected from K-Mod as I love her Psychological Thrillers;
However, this emotional suspenseful romance was great.
I know that “the Queen of Twists’ would come through!
Audiobook narrator Brittany Pressley was Great in performing all the characters!!
This is my twenty-eighth K-Mod thriller. True not one of her Psychological thrillers but I am still a fan!!
Want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this early audiobook.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for December 5, 2023.

Hemlock was a good story and I liked the deep dive into the characters and wasn’t sure who I could trust. I liked this one and the twist was good! I didn’t see it coming! She is the master of the twist!!

KMod and Brittany Presley had me absolutely hooked on this story, I couldn't put it down. Brittany's narrating was so good, it really added to this story and I loved the entire audiobook. And while it wasn't KMod's usual twisty and thrilling madness, it was a romantic suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat through the last half of the story. At one point I audibly groaned when she was about to drop something wild and the next chapter wasn't the answer, but a flashback.
We had a couple different mysteries that slowly started creeping up on us and then a few twists and turns that had my jaw dropping, in true KMod fashion. As a primarily romance reader, I really loved the relationships and thought this love triangle was the perfect amount of angst for this suspenseful story.
The ending was fantastic, both the final acts of the story and the epilogue. I'll be listening to this one again for sure.

The author Kiersten Modglin always surprises the reader for her thriller and suspenseful story. Hemlock falls into the romance instead of thriller genre.
The first 80% of the story was backward and forward about the relationship of Maggie and the three boys. The remaining 20% was back to the Kiersten that most of the thriller readers familiar with - which I had to say was a great twist! I didn’t see it coming at all!
I loved how Kiersten played with the memory and illusion!
The narrator Brittany Pressley did an extraordinarily great job. She definitely brought the audience into the story immediately.

This was my first Kiersten Modglin novel, and I was under the impression she wrote psychological suspense/thrillers, so I was excited to listen to the audioversion of Hemlock. Unfortunately, I picked up her foray into romance . This is billed as a thriller and a romance, but to me it read strongly like a romance with just a hint of thriller subplot (that even by two-thirds of the way through, when I finally gave up on this one) didn't seem to actually have much substance to it. If you're a fan of thrillers *and* romance, this would probably be a great book for you.
Thanks Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the early opportunity to listen to and review this novel.
