What an incredibly funny and heartwarming story! Marion has a gift for dialogue and creating characters that come to life on the page. Both Devorah and Caroline have unique voices and Caroline is a perfect, soft compliment to Devorah’s wily, cantankerous personality. Throw in a little heart warming romance and some betrayal and you have a full and complete story!
This was an easy read, the characters draw you in from the first page! Marion’s talent for writing is evident all the way through this novel about unlikely friendships and the lessons they teach us.
This was an interesting read especially for those who enjoy the Greek philosophers as the main characters both studied the different mindsets. For those enjoy authors that go into great detail to paint the story, you will love this authors style.
I devoured this book! I loved how the author developed the arc that the main character Caroline took throughout the book. And as a Cape Cod resident, it was especially cool to read about some of my favorite local spots that the character visited! The author’s style and writing kept me turning the pages… I couldn’t put it down! I loved how the chapters swapped narrators- the dual narratives kept me on the edge of my couch, never wanting to put the book down! I can’t wait for the next book! Sequel please!
I got to read an advance copy of this book on NetGallery.
This book is funny, smart, and a little heart breaking. The two main characters are Carolyn Becket, a best-selling author and celebrity self help guru, and Devorah Van Buren, a retired philosophy professor, and Carolyn’s former mentor. Carolyn experiences a very public scandal, that is swiftly followed by the threat of a lawsuit brought by her feisty former mentor, Devorah. With Carolyn’s personal and professional life in turmoil, she heads to her hometown in Cape Cod to see Devorah and try to salvage her career.
This was a really fun read, and I found myself invested in it’s characters. The descriptions of Cape Cod, with it’s beaches, shops and local characters, were so vivid, I could practically taste the salty air and feel the sea breezes. This is an ideal beach read.
Two snobbish, selfish and proud women fight over Plato. Life, love, loss, and philosophy. A very casual, I guess that’s what beach reads are, approach to confronting and overcoming shame, regret and aspirations that come from a life made up of hard choices. For people who love self help books but also like novels. If you are an older woman maybe a country girl who is returning home from the city because your world is in crisis and you want motivation for a fresh start this could be a good read for you. Straightforward, inconsequential.
*It was a pleasure to read the ARC for Some Doubt About It, thank you M. McNabb and Lake Union Publishing.
Ha! I loved this book. I'm obsessed with Devorah and all her one-line zingers that were perfectly scattered throughout the narrative. The author is a TV writer, and it shows. This book moves with the grace of a perfect day at the beach, the dialogue as real and deep as it is in your favorite movies and TV shows. This book is ideal for the new year because it’s all about new beginnings and how if you trust your journey and yourself, you might just end up somewhere even better than where you started.
Devorah gave me Olive Kitteridge vibes! The perfect beach read: warm, intelligent and big-hearted. Or winter read, when you're missing the beach.
I liked it! Readers will enjoy this book if they like books with specific settings, this book takes place mainly on Cape Cod, friendships between young and old characters, and light reading that has surprisingly heavy plot twists. Wishing you Happy Reading ahead!
This story of Caroline the life coach is so far outside of my world while also incredibly relatable. I find a sort of kinship with Caroline as she goes from seeing the life she believes she's living to the one in which she actually belongs - the breakdown of a dream world we've all lived in at one point or another. The story of "home", the memories and the feeling of not belonging feel familiar to me. Devorah is so very real, like you can reach out and touch her. I love her snarky nature and sadly I can see myself falling into a similar role. Getting older and not caring what others think any longer...on the outside, but desperately wanting something more. The more I read the more I wanted to know more. I'd love to hear where Caroline goes from here and where life takes her. I really enjoyed her relationship with Danny and wanted more for them. The rich descriptions of Cape Cod gave me vivid pictures of my time in New England and I want nothing more than to travel back there and breathe it all in. A fun read with quite a few out loud giggles.
this book has a little bit of everything.
philosophy, friendship, cheating, second chance romance, grief, the list goes on.
our two leading ladies, Caroline, best-selling self-help extraordinaire, and Devorah, retired philosophy professor and chihuahua owner, are on opposite sides of a lawsuit. Dev decided to sue her former friend and mentee, Caroline, because she basically stole her life’s work and published it.
in confronting each other, Devorah and Caroline are also forced to confront the grievances that made them part ways originally, as well as other aspects of their past.
i really enjoyed the perspective on friendship, getting older, and the philosophy tidbits in this book. the best part of this book was definitely Devorah’s scathing personality. if i had a devil on my shoulder, i imagine it would be something like Devorah.
Caroline, on the other hand, fell flat for me. her personality and character arc felt a bit underdeveloped. despite some backstory, i didn’t feel like i knew why she was the way that she was or why she ultimately changed. her relationship with her jilted lover Danny Diaz was also confusing to me. because they both felt underdeveloped, i didn’t understand their history/why they liked each other, and i could never tell where they were at.
thanks to netgalley, the author, and publisher for the e-arc!
As a Cape Codder myself, it was authentic to the feel of the scenery, beaches, and tourist attractions of the area. A must-read that keeps you engaged from start to finish.
Some Doubt about it is a rom com novel by Marion McNabb.
I really enjoyed this rom com novel. The story was easy to follow and entertaining and had a great cast of characters. I highly recommend it.
❤️ Thank you to netgalley, the author and publisher for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I found this book to be very humorous and also very poignant. I love the settings of both Los Angeles and Cape Cod. This book is a fantastic read! I highly recommend this book!
An interesting look at love. There is a little bit of everything pertaining to relationships in this book. Infidelity, second-chance, employee, and mentor, to name just a few. Entertaining reading. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
i’ve been simmering on cape cod my whole life and i’m really loved the imagery in the novel. caroline is a complex character and i loved her arc. we pray says what everybody else is thinking. i loved it. i laughed out loud! i think this is great and smart beach read.
Fun, interesting and smart beach read. Cape Cod feels like another character in the book. Some plot twists and unexpected turns in the story made it seem more relatable. Recommend
Caroline is on top of the world, a best selling author and self help guru, making appearances on talk shows - when suddenly it seems like her entire life is going up in flames, both personally and professionally.
This book is a lovely read, if quite sad, and sometimes melancholy. It is something of a love letter to Cape Cod.
Caroline, a famous life coach and author, is publicly cheated on by her husband. As if couldn’t get any worse, her former mentor, Devorah, finds out the book that made Caroline famous is her original idea repackaged. With news of Devorah’s lawsuit picked up by the media, Caroline decides to go back to her hometown to explain things to Devorah. Along the way, they form or even rekindle a friendship.
I was intrigued by the premise of a celebrity life coach immersed in scandal. Devorah was a tough but lovable character and I was most invested in her happiness. There is a romance subplot that felt rushed and not necessary to the story - the best scenes are the ones with Caroline and Devorah interacting. 2.5 stars.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a copy.
