I definitely want to read more!
Having been given the opportunity to read the first chapter of this book, I will be ordering a copy. Old friends who have been out of touch, meet up. But when a man joins their table, the stage is set!

This review is based on an EXTRACT ONLY of The Revenge Club copy I received from NetGalley. The cover caught my eye instantly and I was starting to look forward to the old group of friends getting back together. Unfortunately where it lost me was when it’s revealed their friend who they first thing is trans/has transitioned has actually just changed their perceived gender and demeanour for a “revenge” plot. Was so ready to read the rest when it releases until that bombshell.

This excerpt certainly wanted me wanting more as four women, whom had a fallout of which none can really pinpoint as to why they fell out, gather together for lunch to reconnect. Successful in their own right, they hope that their liking music that lead them to firm a band isn't they only thing that ever tied them together. When Jo or now known as Joe states the reason that they got together is for revenge, I am curious as to why and what will happen next.

There’s nothing I love more than books with untapped potential to fulfill my love of reading about the full extent of feminine rage. I think everyone should read/experience it from time to time, so I look forward to reading the rest of the book. I am a bit confused on the ages of the protagonists, because it starts off and I get the impression they’re in their 30s, but they have adult kids, so I assume 50s? I do want to see the Jo/Joe explanation and hopefully it’s clear of being unintentionally transphobic. But yeah love the concept and can’t wait for the rest.
Might want to check file formatting as mine kept getting pages swapped.
There’s a few grammar pieces I noticed on pg 5, 10 , but that’s neither here nor there.

This review is based on an EXTRACT ONLY of The Revenge Club copy I received from Netgalley.

The first draw to me was the cover, simple enough but drew my attention with the title of the book and the subtitle. “Four scorned women. One perfect plan.” It made me want to tuck my feet and sit on an armchair and read.

The first chapter begins with a woman telling an intriguing story of revenge, using personal anecdotes about her life lived as an older woman. Then she moves on to talking about how she meets her friends who will become part of this club and how they will be meeting for the first time in a while.

What I found really refreshing was that this are a group of older women with very differing lives lived and I can’t wait to see what they do in the next chapters!

I greatly enjoyed this extract and I will be read more of this authors previous books.

I’m not a fan of just being given an extract from a book to review but the title lured me in and the chapter we were given to sample didn’t disappoint. I look forward to reading the book. It promises to be a really good read! I would say though that I won’t be requesting any Extracts in the future, I can get the first chapter of any book to read on Amazon and reading one chapter now and not being able to read the rest till May of next year seems pointless. I feel I can only give three stars due to the small amount of material on which to base my opinion.
However, I do still thank the author, the publishers and NetGalley for an advance e.copy Extract of this book.

Hard to get a good vibe from 12 pages, however I will most definitely check this one out when it comes out in May! The title and the cover are so much fun and I love the "drama" that we'll get to see play out in this book!

This review is based on an EXTRACT ONLY, Provided by the publisher for a review via Netgalley.

After many years of not speaking an email comes in from Jo a long time friend requesting a lunch date.

The 4 friends get together for lunch.
Penny the Journalist
Matilda an Author
Cressida a mother and wife.
And Jo

The 3 of the ladies catch up waiting for their friend Jo to arrive. When Jo finally arrives there’s one a hell of twist leaving the ladies asking more than “why did we fall out?”.

The extract left me wanting more, it was packed with dry humour. I’m looking forward to reading the whole book and finding out more about each of the character’s especially Jo!

Some Quotes that me laugh :-

“fate sometimes does the dirty work for you. It’s called karma, and it’s pronounced ‘Ha ha ha, you bastard!’”

“ If menopausal, she’s more drawn to a man… with duct tape over his mouth and a spearfishing harpoon lodged in his chest, especially if she’s just been deceived, demoted or dumped by the ratbag.”

“ ‘One word, Revenge.’”

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for this extract.

Woah, Woah, Woah. What did I just read? The humor, the tension, and the surprise, all of it on point.
The only thing I dislike about the extract of Revenge Club by Kathy Lette is that it is an extract. Why would you tease a reader like that? ( in good humor, of course.)
Just the novel one needs to snap out of a reading slump. Brisk and witty with chef's kiss humor.
Kathy Lette, if the rest of the book is like these 13 pages, I am about to be a fan. I love the honesty rippling through the prose, perfectly placed in the humor & satire genre.

Plot:
Four college friends reunited as triumphant career women, but all that glitters is not gold. Each has made compromises, the reality of being a woman in a man's world.

For fellow readers: The words just whizzed by me. The humor and clarity in the prose were so natural. It isn't trying to be a fun book; it is a fun book.
I can't wait for the full copy. Quite literally! I hope to get the review copy soon because May 9, 2024, is too far away! ( Borderline Desperation Detected)
I thank NetGalley and Aria & Aries for this ARC extract.

It’s hard to tell a lot about a book by a simple extract, but this book started out strong. With a group of women that are old friends who’ve since lost touch and a mystery reveal at the end of the first chapter, this book promises a story that will make you laugh and gasp at the same time. Hopefully it lives up to the pace it started off with.

Wow What a Extract this was I was laughing so much at some of the words in this book that I made myself cry with laughter as it is so funny, If the extract is so good I can't wait to read the rest of the book when it comes out

This Extract tells the story of Matilda Divine an author who trying to write a article for a magazine when she checks her emails after cancelling a credit card that she had forgotten about but her ex and ther father of her 2 children racks up a massive bill and she sees a email from someone she went to uni with and hasn't seen in 30 years inviting her and 2 of her other friends from Uni Cressida and Penny to meet in Covent Garden for a catch up

what follows without giving any spoilers away is so good and I did not see coming

Thanks to net galley and publishers for the extract of this arc in exchange for this review

Short extract enough to give you a flavour of Kathy Lette’s new book.
All about revenge, hhhmmm the writing is bitter and sarcastic, with no kindness, hard edged and generally not for me.
Not the type of negativity I need to engage with.
Thank you NetGalley for the early read.

Things haven't quite worked out the way Matilda planned—her relationship and her work life have fallen apart, and she feels ill prepared and inferior when an old friend proposes a reunion. But it seems that that old friend has a few tricks in mind...

The sample I read only contained one chapter, so it's hard to tell where things are going from here—but that chapter ends on something of a cliffhanger and promises a lot of energy. Matilda comes out swinging, and so do her friends. It's not clear yet whether they actually like each other (I predict a blow-out fight at some point), and I'm not sure how up to date their language and perspectives are likely to be (pro tip: don't use "he/she" if you aren't sure about somebody's pronouns), but I don't think things will ever get quiet with this set around.

The full book is probably not going to be for me, as I'm not sure how well I'd connect with the characters (when someone who makes her living from her looks swans in and fishes for compliments—"I look terrible!"—from her less stereotypically gorgeous friends, I'm afraid I write her off as out of touch at best), but I appreciate the sample for starting with a bang and giving the reader an excellent idea of what they're in for.

Thanks to the author and publisher for providing this sample through NetGalley.

Maybe it is because I only got an extract, but I have so many questions!! After reading the first chapter I am thoroughly intrigued to see where this story leads these friends. Based off of what I read it seems like this story can go anywhere, and it will be full of fun, friendships, and revenge

It was an extract so most of my thoughts are based on the single chapter provided in it. Judging by the writing style and content this is going to be a fun but a slightly dark read. Definitely something that can be categorised as a good, easy to get through summer read.

Had an extra r to read and this looks like it will be another cracker from Kathy Lette. I have loved her books since the 90’s, so witty and sometimes brilliantly outrageous.
Can’t wait for the actual book when it’s out

“The best thing about revenge is that it’s sweet but totally non-fattening.”

Thank you NetGalley for this extract of “The Revenge Club” by Kathy Lette. After reading the first chapter I know this book is going to be everything I look for in a novel. From the witty dry humor to the talk of revenge, the main characters sound like they are going to get even against what I assume is a man.

I’m highly anticipating this novel and can’t wait til it comes out in May!

Thanks to Netgalley and Aria & Aries for the opportunity to read and review this extract.

I really enjoyed this extract of 'The Revenge Club'. It had me hooked from the first few pages and I was keen to find out what happened next. The writing style was witty and intriguing, and the characters were easy to imagine from the first page. I'll definitely be looking out for this book once it's published!
