*Based on an extract of the first chapter only.
This sample of The Revenge Club by Kathy Lette really captured my attention. Even in the extract, the main characters are easy to picture and the cliffhanger left me wanting more - will definitely be looking to pick this up when it's released.
Jo Logan, English and once part of a girl band, now works very successfully in Hollywood. She is due to come to London and writes to her old band-mates, Cressida, Penny and Tilly (Matilda) suggesting that they all meet up in Covent Garden restaurant. Penny, once a war reporter, and now happily living in Hampshire, arrives at the venue first and is shortly joined by Tilly, a successful author. Cressida, a successful actress arrives somewhat later. Whilst all praising each others appearance it s quite obvious that there could well be some bitching to come. It comes to light that Tilly is now divorced and pissed off with her ex husband who has been draining her bank account, Penny appears on the surface to still be happily married and Cressida is married to her work. When they are joined by a handsome man who announces himself as Joe Logan with an ‘e’ eyebrows are raised. On quizzing him/her it turns out that he is living as a man for “revenge”
How frustrating to only have the first chapter of what will undoubtedly turn out to be a saucy, rude and probably bodice ripping novel - can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the book!!
Thank you NetGalley for a free e-galley of this book in exchange for an honest review.
"The Revenge Club" by Kathy Lette is an uproariously funny and delightfully subversive novel that offers a fresh, irreverent take on life after sixty. Lette's signature wit shines in this revenge romp, perfect for fans of Jane Fallon and Dawn O'Porter. The story revolves around four best friends – Matilda, Penny, Cressida, and Jo – each facing a crisis as they approach their sixties, feeling discarded by a society that deems them past their prime.
Lette masterfully captures the spirit and vivacity of her characters. Matilda, a bestselling novelist dropped by her publisher; Penny, ousted from her prime-time TV show; Cressida, relegated to demeaning roles; and Jo, long disillusioned by the male-dominated world, are all relatable and vibrant characters. Their friendship is a testament to resilience and the power of solidarity in the face of societal dismissiveness.
The novel is a delightful blend of humor, satire, and empowerment. Lette’s writing sparkles with sharp one-liners and a tongue-in-cheek tone that keeps the reader thoroughly entertained. The revenge plot, hatched by the friends against the men who have wronged them, is both satisfying and hilariously executed, providing a cathartic experience for anyone who has ever felt underestimated due to age or gender.
However, readers looking for a deeply nuanced exploration of aging might find "The Revenge Club" leaning more towards humor and escapism than introspection. While the novel tackles serious themes, it does so with a light-hearted approach that prioritizes entertainment over depth.
Content warnings for themes of ageism and sexism are appropriate. This book will appeal most to readers who enjoy humorous women's fiction with a bit of an edge, and those who appreciate stories of female friendship and empowerment.
In conclusion, "The Revenge Club" by Kathy Lette is a witty, refreshing novel that celebrates the unbreakable bond of female friendship and the joys of defying societal expectations. Its blend of humor, satire, and spirited characters make it an enjoyable and empowering read.
A very funny and witty teaser for this book.
This teaser gives the perfect flavour of what you can expect from the rest of the book and really made we want to continue reading, so I can’t wait to read the whole book.
This was the perfect little teaser before the book release. I didn't see the twist coming and obviously the perfect way to start The Revenge Club.
Well done Kathy

I really enjoyed this extract of "The Revenge Club" -- it was just enough of a taste to make me want more! I am hooked. I loved the setup of the characters and want to learn more about each of them, I can already tell this will be a great exploration in character development. I would definitely recommend it based on what I have read.
Best friends Matilda, Penny, Cressilda and Jo haven't seen each other in years. A lot had changed in those years - appearances, their marriages status etc.
This excerpt was a good teaser because I really want to read this book now. The humor was great and I'm intrigued with the revenge part.
This was only the beginning of the book and I wanted to keep reading! I wish it was the full novel and it seemed very interesting! I want more!
This review is based on a teaser extract and attracted me solely due to title! I instantly imagined The First Wives Club film scenario, where a group of women unite to right wrongs and unleash devastating revenge on the men that crossed them! I wasn't disappointed at all. Four friends gather from various backgrounds with one commonality: they have all been overlooked for being past their sell-by date and want to face the wrongs head on. There is much ranting and laugh out loud humour, but just as revenge is put forward as a concept, alas , so my extract came to a close. A superb afternoon's entertainment, hopefully to be continued soon. #therevengeclub #kathylette #extract #netgalley

Welcome back Kathy Lette! A go to author through my twenties (throughout the 90’s!). I am thrilled that this extract was brimming with your trademark wit and cannot wait for the full book to be published.
What a fun little taste of the book! With just one chapter, it left me wanting more. I can tell this one is going to be a romp. Excited to read the release next year and see where it ends up!
Cute little extract, definitely gave you a feel for the book and what’s to come.
I think if you suspend belief a bit and just enjoy the ride, it definitely sounds like it’ll be a fun read.
I look forward to trying it in full when it’s out!
Can't wait for the full book to come out.
Kathy Lette has a style of writing that is immediately obvious it's her, I haven't read a book of her's for a while, but instantly it felt familiar, the way she describes thing, the off hand comments and asides.
This extract was great and I'm really looking forward to finding out what happens, and am definitely going to check out some more of Kathy's books in the meantime!
This was a nice preview to the book. I would definitely be checking it out to see what happens next.
Having only read an extract I can only comment on the first few pags but... I am HOOKED. I love the writing style and the humour. I'll certainly be looking out for this one when it is relaeased.
Far too short an extract, I DEMAND the rest NOW!!
In the few pages I got it made me laugh and now my interest is piqued as to why their friend Jo is now Joe pretending to be a man for revenge.
Thank you for my brief extract.
Thank you for the teaser! Will definitely want to read more to see how this plays out! Story starts with four friends from university getting together after many many years apart only to find out one of them is plotting revenge and transitioned to Joe from Jo. Will like to see what kind of revenge is going to be dealt to make someone change their sex to!
The first sentence alone is enough to make me want to devour the whole thing! Witty, sharp and not a word wasted, this is a book I could like very much. Excited to read more from Kathy Lette.
Three Women, One Huge Gripe…
When you need to get even, what will you do? Form The Revenge Club of course…what else? Three women and a huge gripe. No one is going down without screaming. A new novel from the acerbic and mightily witty Kathy Lette can only be hugely anticipated. This is an extract and the reader knows that they will be in for nothing less than a treat. Let the retribution begin…
