✨ ARC Review✨
Rate: ⭐️
I DNFed this at 75%. I really wanted to like it, but the characters felt way too immature for college students – more like high schoolers. The enemies-to-lovers plot didn’t work for me, either. Their transition from hating each other to being in love was too quick and didn’t feel believable.
The first half started off okay, but by the end, I was just bored and over the characters. Mainly the Quinn. Ty was a bit better but still, they could both use some work. The pacing was way too fast, and the conflict was brushed over even though it was a big deal earlier in the book. The romance didn’t feel real, and I couldn’t connect with any of the characters.
While I liked the chronic illness rep and the foodie aspect, the story felt all over the place. Overall, it had potential but just didn’t hit the mark for me.
Unfortunately for me this book and my style of reading and writing did not love this book. It has a very pretty cover and I hope others like the characters more then I did.
thank you netgalley for this arc!
this book is perfect for readers who love:
✨ small town romance
✨ taylor swift
✨ second chance romance
✨sweet home alabama vibes!
the characters in this were a miss for me. i found them to be quite boring, and lacking depth/growth. this was a short novel, but i do feel like more could’ve been done to connect me as a reader to the characters and their stories.
that being said, the second chance romance story through this was still sweet. i enjoyed the family relationships sophie had, i think that was the best part of this story!
ty was boring and immature which was really disappointing as i think the book would’ve been miles better if he just acted his age 🙃
Thank you Netgalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review. I was originally drawn the this book based off of the cover and blurb stating that it is a mix between Gilmore Girls and Sweet Home Alabama. Maybe I had too high of hopes as those are two of my favorite shows/movies. I like the small town romance and second chance romance tropes, but I felt like something was missing to make this great. Possibly having better, more likable characters to relate to.
"Never Getting Back Together" by Krysti Meyer had potential, but unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. The storyline felt predictable and lacked originality, making it difficult to stay engaged. The plot seemed to follow a familiar formula, offering few surprises or twists to keep things interesting.
The characters were underdeveloped and their motivations often felt unrealistic. I struggled to connect with the protagonist, whose decisions and actions seemed inconsistent and hard to empathize with. The dialogue was often stilted and failed to capture the emotions and dynamics of the relationships portrayed.
While Meyer's writing style is clear and easy to read, the book overall lacked depth and emotional resonance. The narrative did not delve deeply enough into the characters' inner worlds, leaving many aspects of their development unexplored.
In conclusion, "Never Getting Back Together" was a disappointing read for me. It may appeal to readers looking for a light, predictable romance, but for those seeking a more engaging and profound story, it falls short.
I love a good cowboy romance story and a Taylor swift reference in the title!? I had to grab this one! It was really cute and would recommend.
As cute and sugary sweet as this book was, it wasn't the right fit for me. While I did appreciate the storyline and characters, it felt to room-com saccharine and I felt like it needed a bit more of a challenge.
Such a good story covering life with chronic illness and the struggle with day to day life, while still trying to create a life for yourself other than being defined by illness
3 stars! a very good book and i would definitely recommend! thank you netgalley for providing the arc for this book!
Please don't. Don't get back together. I could care less for the characters and their relationship. Even the writing felt a bit iffy to me. Wouldn't re read it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for approving me for this ARC.
I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book! I really loved the small town cozy vibes throughout.
Small town second chance is one of my favorite tropes. This was overall a lovely book. It was hard to put down and was easy to jump back into after taking a break for a little while.
This was a wonderful read. I am currently in a second chance romance mood and this book really brought to that place where life and love triumph over the pain and feelings of sadness that we all face. Meyer shows the true power of Love to help us recover and reconnect with who we truly want to be and with those that are most important to us. There was just the right blend of backstory, longing, regret, and emotion between Th and Quinn that made their chemistry real to me. But, I wound the subplot of Quinn facing her Chronic Illness to be a powerful aspect of their story, something that a lot of romances shy away from. There is so much more to this book than a simple escapist boy and girl getting back together story. And, although this may not appeal to everyone, that is so important to showing Quinn as a fully developed character and highlight the powerful.connection she has with Ty.
This was a great real romance and one that makes you think as well as smile!
Such an incredibly cute story! I love small town US romance books and honestly I have to constantly fight the urge to book a flight - this book is not helping that urge!
A perfect, sunny, cosy summer romance read!
This was a swoony small-town romance, giving Gilmore Girls meets Taylor Swift (country era) meets Sweet Home Alabama in a sweet second chance story!
Second chance meets small town romance...? YES, PLEASE! Also, the title...my mind immediately went to Taylor Swift! "We are never, ever, ever, getting back together..."
Quinn is doing the best she can making do with completing the certification program she needs to in order to get her business officially launched and off the ground, all while dealing with her own family drama, and oh yeah, her ex-boyfriend showing up in town. Quinn and Ty haven't seen each other since they broke up, which has been years. They are left in charge of their towns Founder's Day Festival, having to co-host events all week long. Although, as time goes on, Quinn is trying to decide if the sparks she's feeling are truly sparks or if she is instead, fueled by her hate of Ty.
I definitely struggled with wanting more from the novel overall, as well as some of the other characters. I wanted to know more about Ty, because we knew a lot about Quinn and her family too, of course. I didn’t feel as connected to him as I would’ve liked. I also would’ve loved more of the small town feels that I get from reading your typical small town romance novel...I feel like this one just kinda missed the mark for me. I did love how likable Quinn was though and her families complete support as she was navigating a chronic illness.
"As long as you're holding my hand, I'm ready for anything."
“I'll never be over him, either. My heart belongs to him. It always has. Even when he makes me crazy. Even when he makes me hurt."
“And I couldn't come back, knowing I'd see you. Knowing it would tear me apart all over again. I just—I couldn't."
"I missed us every single day I was gone. I missed you." OKAY, MAJOR SWOON MOMENT HERE!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC edition!
Not a fan, was hard to enjoy, the way it was written and how the character acted. I love an good second chance romance but man this was notit for me, Found the chacters boring and not interesting. I love women trying to get her own business together.
Would not read again.
I wanted to like this book but god.. I just feel like everyone is trying to put tittles with Taylor swift songs..
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for an honest reviews. All opinions are my own.
I love everything this was compared to but it didn’t work for me.
