The book has a timely theme. The story is about a brand spanking new author, and her being attacked online, review bombed, doxxed, etc. And there's no real reason. So she's on a hunt to figure it out while her life around her is spiraling out. Her teenage daughter doesn't want to talk to her or listen to her, her boyfriend/partner seems like he's jealous of her time, her friends are mad at her. And everything ties into her new book. We get excerpts from her book through out this story, and it seems like it could be connected to her real life troubles, as she is being accused of exploiting someone else's story.

In the end I felt this was dragged out too long. It was an easy and quick read, but I kept thinking: "oh we're not going to get the answers, again".. It kept adding and adding to her story, almost like making sure everything fits the idea of the last twist. I didn't like how the conversations flowed, and some of the writing felt simplistic. But overall it did make you think how psychologically it is easy to entice a whole crowd to follow without having any back up or reason to do so.. It showed the whole "band affect" perfectly. Though I don't know if so many people would be so gullible without having proof.

In any case, I'll keep coming back to this author. She plots meticulously, maybe a tad over the top, but still in a way where one can enjoy the plot.

I am definitely a fan of Robyn Harding. The Drowning Woman hooked me as a fan. The Haters was so good I stayed up until the wee hours finishing the book. I could not put it down. Camryn Lane Has finally reached her dream. She is a high school counselor, but her passion is writing. After all of her years of hard work, she finally has a book published. "Blood Orchid" is her novel, and as a new author she knows there will be both good and bad reviews. However, soon she realizes that someone is out to ruin her book, and ruin her dream. One bad review has many following. Her day job is in jeopardy. She begins to suspect everyone, her ex-husband, her friends, her boyfriend, even her daughter. This book will have you guessing until the end. I changed my mind numerous times on the suspects. I was very surprised at the ending, but it all came together in the end. I definitely recommend this book. I know I'll be looking forward to Ms. Harding's next book.

Robyn Harding has come up with a great premise in The Haters!

What you ask? Well, the main character is Camryn. She works as a high school guidance counsellor in the daytime. But on nights and weekends, she works on her novel until…she’s finally published. And the reviews look promising! Until they don't. Someone is working very hard to make sure she fails. The harassment starts with a bad rating and grows until…

I’m not going spoil it for you. I couldn’t believe how insidious it was. Anyone in Camryn’s circle could be the one. Ex-husband daughter, friends, coworkers, boyfriend, her work, her publishing house and more. Initially, I was behind Camryn. But some of her actions and words are self-serving. But on the flipside, Camryn’s dream is to become a noted author and how can you fault that.

I was really impressed with Harding’s writing and her plotting. I thought I had the culprit, but was proven wrong more than once. And as the book near the final chapters, the culprit was revealed, and I’m happy to say I couldn’t figure it out before the end!

Kudos to Robin Harding for another great suspense read.

44 year old Camryn has just published her first debut novel. She soon starts to receive negative emails and letters, which then impacts other aspects of her life.
I enjoy Robyn Hardings book, I get through them quickly and they are genuinely entertaining for me to read.

““Burnt Orchid is chilling, heart-wrenching, and painfully authentic. Camryn Lane is a brave new voice in fiction.” —The New York Times Book Review”

At the launch for her debut novel, Camryn Lane is nervous but excited. Her publisher predicts ‘Burnt Orchid’ will be a great success, a dream come true after years of hard work. Though she knows not everyone will love the book, Camryn is unprepared when she receives a hateful email from a reader. The criticism cuts deep, even though she knows it’s not true, and Camryn resolves to ignore it, but then the sender instigates a flood of bad reviews on a popular book review site.

Robyn Harding has tapped into what I imagine is one of an author’s worst nightmare scenarios in The Haters. As the story progresses, the harassment from the anonymous troll escalates, taking an increasingly personal toll on Camryn who becomes more than a little distracted and paranoid. The situation affects her relationship with her boyfriend (though he’s no great loss), and most importantly her teenage daughter, before spilling over into her professional life as a high school counsellor. After making some questionable, though not wholly unreasonable, decisions Camryn quickly finds she is unable to extricate herself from a downward spiral that threatens to destroy everything.

While I was fairly certain who instigated the harassment early on, and proved right, but there were some surprising elements to the plot. This is a generally fast paced thriller, if you overlook the excerpts from ‘Burnt Orchid’ which are scattered through the book. I didn’t think they were necessary as they didn’t add anything to the story other than perhaps refute the troll’s criticism.

I’m not sure it’s even possible in today’s publishing climate that mandates an active social media presence from their authors, but should I ever write a book, The Haters has convinced me I’d prefer the anonymity of a nom de plume.

🚨 **Book Review: *The Haters* by Robyn Harding** 🚨

If you're looking for a spine-chilling, fast-paced thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat, *The Haters* is your next must-read! 😱

Camryn Lane is living her dream—her first novel is finally published, and life seems perfect. But when an anonymous message arrives, followed by a flood of scathing one-star reviews from a mysterious source, everything unravels. As the online harassment escalates into a personal nightmare, Camryn's world is turned upside down. The question on everyone's mind—who is behind this, and why is she being targeted?

This book had me hooked from the first page. The tension is palpable, and the slow build of paranoia and menace will keep you guessing until the very end. Robyn Harding’s ability to capture the dark side of social media, online harassment, and the consequences of public scrutiny is both chilling and disturbingly relatable. The concept of a writer being tormented by a faceless troll taps into our modern fears and will make you think twice about online interactions. 👀

Camryn is a character you can’t help but root for as she fights to regain control of her life. Her determination to uncover the truth and protect herself and her loved ones makes her journey all the more compelling. The twists and turns are unpredictable, and just when you think you’ve figured it out, the story takes another dark and surprising turn.

*The Haters* is not just a psychological thriller; it's a poignant commentary on the fragility of reputation in the digital age, the power of anonymous voices, and the devastating impact of online cruelty. I did't love The Haters as much as I did some of Robyn Harding's previous books (The Drowning Woman is a favorite). I didn't particularly like the main character and some of the twists were predictable, but I was invested in the story from start to finish.

This was such a good read! I absolutely loved it!
This book was relatable on so many different levels.
On the one hand, there are high-school kids who will go to great lengths to fit in.
Then, you have an author who receives a bad review on her book.
Then there are internet trolls who go too far.
These are things that are dealt with on an ongoing basis.
In the booksta community, we see how hard indie authors work, and I know how much it must hurt to receive a bad review.
It's sad that some people have nothing better to do than troll others just for kicks.
This book shows us how much destruction internet trolls can do to a person's life.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it!

Camryn Lane has just published her first book and is riding high with excitement over her achievement. However, she receives an email containing a blistering one-star review. This not only starts a series of other bad reviews, but someone is determined to prove that Camryn has chosen herself and her job as a school counselor in order to create her story. In fact, Camryn is being accused of stealing stories from the students she counsels. She is being accused of being extremely unethical. The reviews keep coming, and there just might soon be a face-to-face confrontation with the person who will not let up on Camryn.

As Camryn splits custody with her teen daughter with her ex-husband, she also is in what seems like a good relationship with Theo. Her normal and contented life, soon her entire life, family, school and social, explodes. Camryn is desperate to figure out who is behind the barrage of brutal messages and reviews. Will it ever stop? What about Camryn’s desire to keep writing?

I’m not sure if it’s my inner nerd, but reading about a writer’s struggles was super interesting. As a book reviewer, I was really drawn to this story and even imagined if one of my favorite authors was going through something similar. That’s why The Haters was such a wild ride. It was like watching a roller coaster out of control or someone gingerly walking around landmines. Camryn’s love for writing might have just been her downfall, and I was hooked from the very first page.

Many thanks to Grand Central Publishing and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Yesss! I love Robyn Harding. This one is about a guidance counselor who gets famous writing a book that loosely ties into her experience as a therapist. Someone is threatening her and she gets worried for her reputation and eventually her safety. Auto read author!

This book will get under your skin and make you question everything on social media (if you don't already). While it's marketed as a thriller, I don't think I'd really put it in that category, but I also don't really know where I'd slot it. Maybe domestic thriller? It'll keep you on your toes, but won't really get your heart pounding like others have.

The characters all brought this book down a star. if I'm being honest lol. None of them were likeable and the main character was very hard to like and root for. While I enjoyed the chapters from the authors book within the book, I felt it took away a bit from the actual plot line of the book. Overall, still very enjoyable and a quick, easy read/listen!

What a gripping thriller!

Camryn Lane’s dream has come true—her first novel, Burnt Orchid, has been published and seems to be on the right path. Then, she receives an email through her author's website from a reader accusing her of using her students' personal problems and secrets in her book. Camryn is shocked by the accusation. She would never exploit the sensitive issues the schoolchildren shared with her and write them into her work. The email deeply affects her, and things only get worse when her book's rating begins to drop after a reviewer tears it apart on a popular book site.

Someone is out to get her. It feels very personal, and as the novel progresses, a growing sense of danger envelops Camryn. She needs to figure out who is targeting her before it’s too late.

The Haters was engrossing. You could tell that Camryn's paranoia was well-founded—someone truly hated her. With multiple red herrings, the novel keeps you on edge. Kudos to the author for keeping us guessing until the very end.

Cliffhanger: No

4/5 Fangs

A high 4 stars for me. I really enjoyed this one.
It really shows you how dangerous social media can be for not only teenagers but adults as well. Everyone has something to loose. It only takes one person, one comment, one post and your world is turned upside down and inside out.
You need to be careful of who your friends.
A good psychological thriller for anyone who enjoys a bit of a twist.

I’m almost afraid to write a review for this book 😅. Just kidding because I enjoyed it. This was a thrilling read centered but scary look at the realities of the internet and social media. Robyn Harding is definitely an auto read author for me.
