Although it was a relatively short book, it took me quite awhile to read. Mostly because It’s not a book I normally would have even looked at. But, it was very eye-opening on the immigration system. Very sad in some cases, frustrating in others. I totally understand why the system isn’t just cut and dry.
This is a book geared toward teens who want to learn about immigration in the US. There is a historical perspective followed by a global perspective, and the author goes through different parts of the world and talks about the history of immigration from those areas.
This is important information because everyone here came from somewhere else. Even the Native Americans who came here first probably walked over from Asia.
In the end, the author discusses why so many believe myths making immigration look bad, especially when immigration has been so important over the years.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me listen to this as an audiobook. The narrator was perfect for this kind of information, even and clear.
A quick, concise, and valuable summary of immigration. This is a worthy book as more people should know this information. I recommend it to clarify the muddle that frequent lies about immigration cause.
Keeping in mind that this audiobook (approx 2.75 hrs) is categorized as "Children's Non-Fiction, Teens".
I thought some of the "American history" overview was too much of a broad brushstroke;
Hamilton, Man and Musical
One of the most influential framers of the US Constitution, Alexander Hamilton was born in Nivas a British Island in the Carribean Sea. He was a proponent of a strong centralized federal government and his writing in the federalist papers still influences political and legal thinking. he became the nations first Secretary of the Treasury. his colorful life was eventually turned into the immensely popular musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
(I'm not sure what the musical has to do with immigration.)
I did like the second half of the book more than the first half of the book and i did like this audiobook more than i thought I would.
Thank you to NetGalley and Lerner Audiobooks for approving my request to review the advance review listen in exchange for an honest review.
