Loved this book! Excellent introduction to a new series. Fast paced and full of suspense this book ticks all the boxes for me. Finished on a real cliffhanger so anxiously waiting for the next instalment!

This book had me intrigued from the beginning. Why would someone kill a nun. It has you guessing from the start of who it could be. It tells a story of what young girls who were very young and not married were treated when they fell pregnant in the early years. I like how the author keeps you interested right to the end and into the sequels of the story. I loved the book.

The first book of the series and what a great start. Interesting, chillingly thrilling and hauntingly good. Fast paced and a book I couldn't put down. The story was well written and the characters made the book what it was. Love Detective Holly Turner and look forward to seeing what she does in the next book(s).

The cliff-hanger at the end is a temptation to read the next book. It's like dangling the carrot. Can't wait no so I'm off to read the next one.

This is the first book in a series. It is well written, great plot, and executed well.
My only complaint is that it ends on a cliffhanger. It appears that the books in the series continue the storyline so we'd have to read them all to know how it ends.

The Fallen Girls is book number one in the Detective Hollie Turner trilogy.

Set in the northern city of Hull on the east coast of England, Detective Hollie Turner, who has recently transferred from Lancaster, is thrown into the deep end when a nun is found thrown from the Humber Bridge.

Told from different points of view, it is an interesting and compelling story that had me totally engrossed and very frustrated when it ended on a cliffhanger. This was no problem in the end though because I just hopped over to Amazon and bought the next two books in the series and devoured them both.

Highly recommended trilogy.

After the body of a nun is thrown over a bridge overpass and hit by a passing truck, Detective Inspector Hollie Turner is brought onto the case. Having just relocated to Hull, Turner is thrown into a major case while trying to deal with balancing her work with her deteriorating personal life at the same time.

Told in dual timelines,The Fallen Girls centers around the mother and baby homes in England in the 1970s. We see the story told from Turner's point of view in present day as she investigates and works the case, while simultaneously being told the story of Mandy in the 1970s. Mandy, pregnant at 15, is sent to a mother and baby home where her infant was taken from her without her permission. Are the body on the bridge and the mother and baby home in the area connected, or is this just someone's twisted idea of revenge?

I enjoyed this book up until (literally) the very end. The pacing was quick and easy to follow. I found the general plot interesting, as the story of the mother and baby homes is not one that I've seen a lot and I find them equal parts horrifying and intriguing. My only issue with this book was the ending. While I realize it is a part of a series, the ending was SO abrupt. There was so much build up the entire time, both on the part of solving the case and the part of Turner's personal life, but there was literally zero payoff. The lack of conclusion was so jarring that I actually said, "Wait, what the ^&@*?!" outloud when I realized there was nothing else.

will I read the next book? Most likely, as long as Teague doesn't continue his habit of absurdly abrupt cliffhangers.

A 5 star read from Paul Teague. Told from different times, the connection between a nun hanging from a bridge and a home for unmarried mothers in the ‘70s is made by new Detective in the area, Hollie Turner.
The flashbacks really built up the suspense on what the girls experienced at the time and what could lead to vengeance all these years later. The book finished on an absolute cliff hanger and can’t wait to read part 2.
The background to Hollies character is well laid out and feel for her battle between career and family life. Building up new relationships in the workplace is never easy, and has a few challenges to overcome.
A start to a compelling series and looking forward to seeing what happens next.

An Addictive Crime Thriller.
The Fallan Girls by Paul J. Teague is the story of Detective Hollie Turner who has just transferred to a new unit in Hull. After she arrives her phone rings to say there has been a body found hanging beneath the Humber bridge. It turns out to be a nun murdered who was then hit by a truck. As Hollie begins to dig into the victim's personal life, she finds that Sister Brennan ran a teenage local baby unit at the Church of St. Marys and the Angels.
Detective Hollie Turner is also battling a divorce, trying to see her two children and capture a murderer who is linked to the unit. The five young girls who have been sent there to deliver their babies are convinced they will be taking their baby's home after they give birth, but their children are being taken of them and adopted out.
Without giving anything away the story splits between two timeliness. One is the present and the other is the past and the story of the young mothers and their children especially between Mandy in 1974 and Detective Inspecter Hollie Turner. This book is packed full of suspense, and it is very hard to put down. I cannot wait to read the other two books in this series as this book ends with a cliff hanger, but it works well as you eagerly want to pick up the next book. The book is a gripping mystery and an addictive crime thriller which I highly recommend. There are two POV in The Fallen Girls, the ordeal of a pregnant teen decades before, whose baby was taken without her informed consent by the nuns who run the facility. Then there is a very different storyline taking place in modern day. Newly appointed detective Hollie Turner goes to the scene of a horrific crime, a body was hung from a bridge, and then hit and mutilated by a passing truck. It will soon become evident that there is a connection between these two events.

I was immediately drawn into the modern-day story, and I found the detective an interesting character, who was undergoing a divorce with her cheating husband. He was also trying to take custody of their children. Her story was sympathetic, and I was driven to hear more. The story set in the past was interesting, as I had read stories about this generation of teen mothers whose babies were basically stolen from them by the church. However, as a character, I found Mandy's story of being a "fallen girl" a little less compelling.

The story ends with a cliff hanger, and this device might annoy some readers. This is a planned series of three books by the author, and I must admit that ending the book with a big question mark does make you eager to read the next one. I want to see what happens to Detective Hollie Turner, and how the mystery is resolved.

I would rate this 3.75, as it took me a while to fully engage, but at the end I was ready to read the sequel so I'm rounding up to 4!

I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did I can get upset when children/babies are involved, but this book is well done and a great read, Told in two different time periods, by Hollie , the DI investigating the case(s) and in the 70s by Mandy , a teenager .As I am around the same age , I think the descriptions of this part of the book are well done, although Mandy is very naive, that might be as a result of the homelife rather than on the timeperiod (I knew more than her then) .
There is a lot going on in this book, so it is fast paced. The chapters are shortish so it reads very easily and it certainly kept my interest. I liked the descriptions which give a good picture of Hull and of the people in the book, both in the investigating team and those being investigated. A lot of food for thought with the subject matter, a home for unmarried mothers run by the Catholic church. I really need to go on to book 2, this ends quite suddenly !

Good book, I understand it’s the first in a series and I will have to read the next book to find out who the killer was, I was a little disappointed that it ended with a cliffhanger.. I just had trouble connecting with the characters and abut it was a good mystery plot set by the author. Thanks NetGalley for an opportunity to read this book.

A superb thriller. Detective Hollie Turner has just relocated to Hull with personal problems, and a new team. She hits the ground running when a Nun is murdered. With two timeline's this is a cracking book. Good characters and well plotted. Going straight to book two. Thanks to Storm publishing and Netgalley for this review copy.

A good read, for sure. Although the protagonist can't seem to catch a break and I stayed frustrated on her behalf for most of the book. I don't love endings that force you to read the next installment, so that's a disappointment. But because I enjoyed this one, I will probably read the next, as well.

So this was a first in the series and a first for me reading any works by this author and it won't be my last.

It was a powerful emotive read and although it was fiction it's the stark reality that alot of young girls faced.

Told from two POV the present investigation and the details of the past that lead to this point.

Enjoyed the plot, the characters and the writing style of the author, it just hooked me in from the dramatic opening to the cliff hanger at the end.

Looking forward to the next two instalments already downloaded.

A fantastic start to a detective series set in England. Detective Hollie Turner is transferred to a new unit and her first case is of gruesome murder of an elderly nun, who ran a house for unwed mothers decades ago, and let's just say, had plenty of people that wished her harm. A gripping, hard to put down detective story, which kept me intrigued to the last page.
Do yourself a favor, and get the whole series, as this ends in a clifthanger, and I immediately started reading the second one.

Thank you for allowing me to review this book. An exciting Detective series. I liked Hollie the new DI in Hull . She has personal issues, but is committed to her new job. The prologue immediately spikes interest. The story is constantly moving between an earlier timeliness involving young teenage girls and the murder of a 70 year old nun. I was gripped from the start to the cliffhanger ending. So immediately moved to read the next book.

An amazing read with killer suspense!
Poor pregnant women with their babies taken away after birth and a killer on the loose.
Cannot wait for the second book!
