Again I was kept guessing right till the very end….a captivating roller coaster ride!! I can’t say enough good things about this series of books, the characters feel like family at this point. I always think I have it figured out and DK always manages to surprise me! 10 out of 10 stars!

“I just had a call from a young woman, Clara Finch, she lives in an apartment on Elm. Her friend, Freya Richardson, has been missing all weekend and she’s worried about her. She asked the landlord to open the door to see if her friend was okay and says the bathroom is covered in blood. No sign of her friend.”
And so it begins.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review "A Song For The Dead", the 21st book in DK Hood's "Detectives Kane and Alton" series.
It's Halloween in Black Rock Falls, so naturally Jenna and Dave, Shane Wolfe and their teams have another serial killer in their midst.
With the discovery of recent remains in three graves, previously thought to be historical, the hunt is on; especially considering that a young local woman is now missing and presumed dead, judging by the state of the crime scene at her residence.
A killer like no other they've ever hunted is hard at work this Halloween, and he's set his sights on some of the most vulnerable of Black Rock Falls citizens - single women whose every habit he's studied and whose homes he's violated. But it seems that not everyone in law enforcement believes the reports of strange goings on at the women's homes - possibly to their detriment.
As suspects are identified and the investigations shift into high gear, will Dave and Jenna be in time to save the next target?
DK Hood does not disappoint in Book 21 - the suspense is still just as high as ever and Serial Killer Central does not let us down.
While this book can be read as a standalone thriller, it's highly recommended that you read the series to get the full impact and character back stories. Looking forward to Book 22 and beyond.

I honestly don't know why anyone lives in Black Rock Falls, which has a murder rate of some countries. That said Jenna Kane and Dave Alton are dogged law enforcement officers who always work out the identity of the villain- in this case a villain who is choosing victims who look like Jenna. They're also busy working on being parents to Tauri, which is causing a small amount of friction between them due to their different styles. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I've only read one of the preceding books but that wasn't a problem. It's a twisty page turner.

Halloween is spooky in Black. Rock Falls but this year it's especially creepy. Is Jenna's mind getting the best of her or is the killer following her and is she next? Read and find out just what happens on their son's first holloween.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

DK Hood did not disappoint with this Halloween thriller! Ups and downs and many twists but an entertaining read! Sheriff Jenna and Dave are the best in keeping Black Rock Falls safe! Their adopted son Tauri adds a new dimension to their family.

This series is like a warm hug and time with friends, while providing edge of your seat action wondering which of the many suspects is the killer.

Welcome back to Black Rock Falls at Halloween, when the town transforms with scary decorations and the natural mist adding to the spook factor, providing the right conditions for another serial killer to emerge, but this is no new killer, after 7 years they have returned and the team rush to find him, before they miss their window and three lives are lost and it is another year before they return to hunt their sacrifices.

All the characters you love are here, building stronger relationships and new traditions.

When a new Kane and Alton book comes out I just have to stop everything and read it. This one was incredibly atmospheric and just really drew you in with the Halloween spirit I liked the way that they are building the culture relationship with their new son and how they are all learning at the same time.

The crime itself got you thinking and I loved how it got resolved.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

Welcome back to Black Rock Falls. It’s Halloween and women are going missing and a grave has been found with 3 bodies. Are they connected to the current cases? Only time will tell and the investigating officers are determined to catch the killer before another woman is taken. This book will grab you from the first page. It is filled with atmosphere as the investigators try to find a link between the women. This author has become a must read for me and I look forward to the next book. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Detective Kane and Alton #21

As she steps out of the shower and wraps herself in a warm towel, her breath catches. There's writing scrawled in the condensation on the mirror. I'm going to kill you. She doesn't even have time to scream....

And so it begins. A new Halloween murder spree has hit Black Rock Falls. This is Dave and Jenna's first Halloween with their son, Tauri, but Jenna isn't a fan of this season. Graves have been found in the forest, they think they are the work of the Halloween Slasher, who has not been seen or heard of in seven years. The town has been decorated for Halloween, so there are a lot more things a killer can hide behind. Jenna feels like someone is watching her from the shadows, but is it just her overactive imagination?

This is another well-written, twisted, and very creepy read. I can never work out who the killer is. I like Jenna and her team, they work well together, and I like how Jo Wells and Ty Carter are making a regular appearance. I have thoroughly enjoyed every book in this series.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #DKHood for my ARC of #ASongForTheDead in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Jenna and Dave investigate when two girl go missing. The only evidence is the blood, too much for them to have survived. When Blackhawk, Norelle and Wolfe, discover bodies in the forest, a link to the case is discovered. If this is the Halloween slasher, then one more girl has to die to complete trio, and one of their friends is in danger!

First of all I am a huge fan of this series. I’ve read all instalments multiple times and always enjoy them.

This book was really atmospheric. The spooky, Halloween scene was built really well, with detailed descriptions. I felt like I was there and experiencing it all-although I wouldn’t fancy a visit to serial killer central!

Rio and Rowley acted out of character and were a bit unlikeable this book. Although it was good to see an only human aspect to them, rather than the perfect people they have normally seemed. Likewise Jenna and Kane as parents are also quite different, and it was good to continue reading about how they are adapting to this role while having busy lives.

I 100% recommend. 5⭐️

I like this author. I read books by this author often. This is a page turner…a cannot put down story of intrigue. Mystery and mayhem. Realistic characters keep the story moving quickly. Kane and Alton are entertaining. They work well together, and I enjoy the novels with these two. Trying to discern the ending is not easy. Spend an afternoon with the characters in this book. Thanks Netgalley.

As always, a great trip back to Black Rock Falls. This time it was Halloween and it was ever so creepy. While I was reading it in broad daylight I was hearing all the noises the house makes and freaking myself out! The town seemed to go all out for decorations and it was hard to know what was real and what was fake.

This killer was intense and sadistic. The way he took his victims was chilling and got into my head. No showers for me while I am home alone! I liked that the whole team got involved on the case, one that really had them all stumped. It is nice to see Dave and Jenna as parents too. I would be getting out of Serial Killer Central though!!

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. Publishes on January 8th

It's Halloween in Black Rock Falls and Jenna is not a fan. I understand her completely because I am not a fan of those spooky, creepy, horror things either. I remember, a long time ago, I was watching 'Carrie' with my mom. I scared her more with my screams than some scenes on tv did. So that was the first and the last time I watched something that could scare me (and the people around me apparently lol)

But back to the book. Jenna sometimes sees ghosts where there aren't any and feels like she is being watched. Dave finds it hilarious at times and says she lets her imagination get the better of her... again, like she always does at this time of the year. Bus is Jenna really seeing things that are not there or is her fear real?

I have always loved Jenna and Dave and their team who work together as a well oiled machine. Even when their 'family' grows, because that's how the couple sees their team, it does not change a thing.

I snigger inwardly when I read that killers think they will not be caught because they are far smarter than the team. I think, yeah, right ;)

At a certain point, during the story, I was thinking : what are you thinking and even worse what are you saying???? I don't know what came over them and I felt it was out of character.

Jenna was mild though and after all, even book characters are only human, right? ;) :)

All is well that ends well, but it was a tricky one.

I guess it's needless to repeat that I am a huge fan of this author and her series and I am sure this is never, ever going to change. 5 stars for another book that kept me guessing until the end

Thank you

It's Halloween in Black Rock Falls. Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane and their team are still investigating the graves that were discovered in the forest. When a link is found between the graves and a recent kidnapping in the town it becomes clear that a serial killer called the Halloween Slasher is back after a hiatus of seven years. With the town's people ultra spooked due to the time of year they have their work cut out to differentiate between pranks and serious threats.

Another great read from this series.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and D K Hood for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
