Wow, this book had me finish it in one go.
While it is a slow start, and there are a bunch of flashbacks, once it gets going, it really gets going! I did expect a few of the twists, but once it was elaborated on, I felt that there was way more going on than I expected.
Very fun and thrilling read!
What an attention grabbing book! You definitely do not want to miss this one. If there is one book you read in 2024, make it this one, you will be on the edge of your seat all the time. The end gave me the chills!
Leslie Wolfe knows how to keep her audience captivated and she can keep up the pace the whole way through. When you think it is safe to breathe, she will hit you with another twisted scene after another. There were times during this book that I wanted to hide my head under the blanket heart racing because the story became so intense. Ms Wolfe is the queen of psychological thrillers.
The first half to three quarters of this book was fantastic. I could not put it down. I felt like the last part of the book was a little too much and unnecessary.
Also Alana’s and Daniel’s relationship was annoying and I was not rooting for them. Like why would Daniel want to stay with her?
Overall, I really did enjoy this book and it was fast paced and full of twist. I would recommend.
Thanks
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC! I really enjoyed The Surgeon so was excited for her newest novel.
When Alana’s high school friend moves in next door, it brings up a lot of memories for her, most of them not good! This book will keep you on your toes with all of the twists and turns. I did find some of the content to be a bit over the top.
I was drawn to this book by the premise and the author. I read The Surgeon earlier this year and loved it but this one fell short for me. I struggled through this one and found the ending predictable and disappointing. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it
Oh My Goodness!
First let me thank the author and Net Galley for the advance copy.
This is the first stand alone book I have read by this author and I am blown away!
To me it was a little slow at the start and I wasn't sure where it was going to go, but MAN did it pick up and I held on for the ride
Alana and her husband Daniel are surprised to get new neighbors, Alana is more shocked when she sees that the new neighbors are her best friend from high school, Chole, and her husband Ray, Alana's former high school boyfriend. She has not seen or spoken to either in over 10 years.
Alana is spearheading a campaign to create If I Go Missing Binders, it's a great idea. The binders play a very important role in this.
This is a must read.
Oh how I loved this! Creepy and twisted, the shocks kept coming. At times I had to re-read, such was my surprise! I raced through this, its that’s good!
Wow! I want to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book. This was easily a 4.5 star read.
Flippin' heck, I needed a few moments to recover when I finished reading this one, what a journey Wolfe took us on.
Where do I start? The plot is fast paced from beginning to end, has some brilliant characters and you won't want to put it down. If you're a true crime or podcast lover like me, this is the one for you!
I fast became addicted to the plot and found myself racing through the pages, it's insane!
Upon reading the synopsis for 'If I Go Missing', choosing to read the book was a no-brainer. Especially with one's prior experience with the author's previous book, The Surgeon. In this her latest release, Leslie Wolfe created a riveting, fast-paced tale where deceit, secrets, betrayal and mysteries abound. Sit back, grab some chocolate and prepare for a thrilling ride.
Now, this is a story which one needs to go into blindly so that one can appreciate the surprises it has to offer. The characters behave as one would expect given the situation they find themselves in. One thing for sure is you will either despise them, love them or pity them. There are times you may want to slap some sense into a few. The main character whose POV drove the story had me shaking my head for the majority of the story. How can one person be so clueless. Strangely enough, her actions paid off in the end. Lucky for her, she got spared being sacrificed on the altar of divorce, which would have been justified for all the lies she told.
'If I Go Missing', remind readers to exercise caution in accepting things and taking at face value. There is always a hidden agenda in every action taken, whether good or bad. In this instance, the majority were bad, as the narrator would discover. As the story unfolds, so do the secrets and lies. It reflected the effectiveness of the in case I go missing binder. A concept which the narrator has been pushing from the beginning of the story. This one had me turning the pages as I needed answers. Boy oh boy! It gave me more than I expected. I am still reeling from the revelations. It was quite a compelling read.
Fans of psychological Thrillers will find 'If I Go Missing' compelling. I can't wait to see what next Wolfe has in store for her readers.
This was a gripping, all-absorbing read! I really enjoyed it and can highly recommend it for fans of domestic suspense.
Alana is happily married but living with a dark secret that she desires to keep from her husband. When a childhood friend moves next door with her husband, Alana's ex-boyfriend, it seems the past has resurfaced for atonement. But will her marriage survive? Will she?
This book has a lot of intrigue, darkness, and suspicion. There are murders, police investigations, and a child abduction. Wolfe does a great job of inserting urgency and makes it easy to flip the pages.
If I Go Missing is a captivating and twisty domestic suspense that is hard to put down.
Thank you to Bookouture, NetGalley, and the author for an advanced reading copy.
A twisty and engrossing psychological thriller that will keep you guessing.
Two friends from high school come back together after a decade apart in a not-so-pleasant reunion.
Alana (married to Daniel) and Chloe (married to Ray) end up being neighbors when Chloe and Ray move into the house next door. This isn't good for Alana -- she used to be in love with Ray and then Chloe stole him away. Alana and Daniel already have some issues going on -- he wants a baby and she is not on board. That's because she has some big secrets and has told him a lot of lies. Will these new neighbors upend everything?
Alana is a 4th grade teacher at a local school and is a champion of the "If I Go Missing" binders -- they are made in order to help police in those critical hours after a disappearance and contain all sorts of pertinent information including passwords to phones and social media. After she's featured in an interview, one of her students goes missing. And then, so does Chloe. Alana is asked to help in the search for the binder that Chloe has made. When Alana finds it, takes photos of the pages, and also steals Chloe's hidden personal diary, she knows she has to find Chloe before the police do. It seems Chloe has some secrets she wants to reveal that will destroy Alana's life.
Drama? Yes. Some crazy off-the-wall twists? Yes. This was hard to put down as it veered wildly off the rails several times. I really didn't care for any of the characters and Alana kept getting on my last nerve. Some of the narrative could have been tightened as it seemed there was a lot of running around angsting on Alana's part. Some convenient coincidences and lucky amateur sleuthing helped develop the plot. I kept reading just wanting to see how this mess turned out. If you like a lot of surprises in a story line, you will probably really enjoy this standalone. Sometimes, though, it seems like authors take a twist too far but perhaps that's just my viewpoint.
Thank you to the author for the e-book to read, review, and recommend.
If I Go Missing, is a kind of like a cat and mouse kind of mystery/thriller. It was very fast paced and I enjoyed the story line. There were a few twists and turns that I did not see coming, but there were also a couple of predictable twists. Overall, the unpredictable ones are what made me continue reading this book. There is a little bit of smut, so if you’re into that kind of thing in a mystery/thriller than I think you’ll enjoy this book.
I do love a novel by this author and normally devour them but this one be warned started of really slowly and it took me a while to completely engage with the story and the characters but once I did, it got me my mind was racing ahead of possible options to the hints (I was wrong) and it ended up being a definite one session read.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and bookouture but the review is entirely my own.
This is a good 4⭐️ thriller
Two former friends with secrets in their past they want to keep buried until one goes missing.
This book has me on the edge of my seat with each twist and turn. I finished this within a couple days as I could not put it down.
You never who did it until the very end. The author has an amazing way of making you not trust any of the characters involved and you don’t know who is telling the truth.
The If I Go Missing binders are a great idea and think everyone needs one.
First, I want to thank Leslie Wolfe, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me this book so I can bring you this review!
WOW!!! What a way to kick off 2024!!! Leslie Wolfe’s If I Go Missing is the best missing person case EVER that I have read (and I read a lot)!!! I just loved this book and could not get enough of it!! You need to put this on the top of your TBR list!! It is beyond 5 stars!!
Leslie instantly captivated my attention right from the first sentence in the first chapter. It felt so intimate and personal that the character was talking directly to you. By doing this I felt that I would be helping find her! This aspect I found so unique and an interesting concept! I just had to read more!
If I Go Missing is an insanely gripping fast paced read that will keep your eyes glued to your Kindle!! You may just want to clear your schedule that day! It is that good!!
This book has wicked twists and turns, suspenseful, characters you will love to hate, plenty of secrets and their shocking revelations.
Many times I wonder how the authors come up with their creative storylines. I wondered what inspired Leslie to think outside of the box for this one.
#incaseigomissing is not a new concept. Determinedly, Alana is strives to rally her fellow teachers to create binders for the students at her school. The idea is that if a person has a binder that contains relative information, even locks of hair for DNA purposes, lives could be saved. If this binder was made available to law-enforcement, someone that unfortunately would go missing would have a better chance to be found within the first 48 hours than someone who does not have a binder.
While Alana is pushing her agenda, she is about to have new neighbors. In fact, it is a couple she knew from high school, and Alana thought she would never see them again. They are Ray and Chloe, and even though Alana is married to Daniel, just seeing Ray again brings back memories of passion and moments of longing that she thought were long since buried. Meanwhile, there is strong tension between Alana and Chloe, especially since Chloe is now married to Alana’s first love.
When one of Alana’s students goes missing, not only is the importance of the binder brought to the fore, but for more than one reason, Alana’s character takes on the role of an unreliable narrator. There is a lot of history that is soon uncovered about Alana, and this throws the story into full throttle. In some cases, Alana’s consideration of the past comes into play, all while present events intensify.
With chilling words, the binder would start off with, “If you’re reading this, I’ve gone missing”. Definitely chilling, making this a compelling read, one that kept me turning pages late into the night.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
If you’re reading this, I’ve gone missing.
I close the binder I’ve been writing in, and walk into the living room. As I stare out of the window at your house next door, I think about all the things I stand to lose if someone comes for me. My handsome, loving husband, who has no idea what I’ve done. My family, who have supported me no matter what. This beautiful home near the ocean, where I thought I would be safe.
Everyone says that I’m paranoid, but I just think I’m prepared. My secrets have placed me in terrible danger.
So if the worst happens, this binder contains everything you’ll need to find me, hidden in a place only you could guess. You’ve always known me best of everyone, ever since we were girls. You’ll be able to put the pieces together and uncover the truth.
Only you can find me. But you’ll need to do it fast.
Because if you don’t, all your lies will come to light too…
My thoughts: I binged this compulsive thriller in less than 24 hours! Two missing persons cases, childhood friends with a dark secret to protect, secret identities, cheating, revenge, shocking twists, and a reveal I never saw coming! It was the perfect start to my 2024 thrillers and lovers of domestic and psychological thrills should add it to their TBR.
This psychological thriller has so many twists and turns that you may get whiplash! Ingenious plotting, well developed characters, and a wild ride of a story!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
Is anyone really who they seem to be?
If I Go Missing is the 30th book written by Leslie Wolfe that I’ve read. As much as I like to delude myself about being able to predict who the culprit is or how things will work out in the end in her books, my prognostication is always off. If I Go Missing was no different, I thought I had the story all figured out twice and neither was close once I finished the story. This story not only kept me guessing, but it kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the end. Along with some action, there is plenty of suspense, misdirection, and a cast of characters who are not who they seem. Along with the overall story arc, there are at least two separate stories that are fundamental to the main story and its resolution.
I think I can honestly say that If I Go Missing is my favorite of Leslie’s books. I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from the author through NetGalley and chose to provide my honest review.
