Her Hidden Grave by Pamela Fagan Hutchins is a gripping, high-stakes crime thriller that delves deep into the chilling reality of a town terrorized by a twisted killer. In the second installment of the Detective Delaney Pace series, Hutchins ramps up the suspense as Detective Delaney Pace faces a horrifying new case in her small hometown of Kearney, Wyoming.
When the body of star football player Noah Pinehurst is discovered in the school’s changing room, Delaney is thrust into a complex investigation that only grows darker with time. The case takes a sinister turn when two of Noah’s friends go missing from his memorial, and Delaney is haunted by the possibility of a serial killer stalking the town’s teenagers. As the case unravels, Delaney's worst fears are realized when one of the missing teens returns, covered in blood and dirt, with a chilling account of being buried alive by someone she recognizes—someone Delaney never thought she would have to face again.
The novel excels in building tension and suspense. Hutchins masterfully blends emotional depth with the relentless pace of a police procedural, making Delaney a compelling protagonist who is driven by a deep personal connection to the case—her own father’s murder continues to haunt her, and this new threat feels painfully familiar. The revelation that the killer may be someone close to her adds a layer of betrayal and urgency to the plot, pushing Delaney to confront difficult truths and make unimaginable decisions to protect her community.
Delaney's fierce determination to stop the killer, even at the cost of her own safety, makes her an unforgettable character. Her vulnerability and strength shine through as she grapples with the dark forces surrounding her, including the chilling possibility that she might have to take the life of someone she loves in order to stop the murderer.
For fans of tense, emotionally driven crime thrillers, Her Hidden Grave is a must-read. Pamela Fagan Hutchins delivers a twisty, heart-pounding mystery with a relentless pace and a gripping conclusion. Delaney Pace continues to be a standout character, and this installment will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next chapter in her journey.
I read this book without reading the first one and still enjoyed it A LOT!
I think I would have like it even more if I had read the first one, so I'm trying to buy it.
The characters are amazing and the mystery is really there. The story flows, it didn't need lots of weird twists to get to places and I appreciate it.
The author's way of writting it's amazing. She made me feel like every POV was written by someone else. I think that's incredible.
Hope to read more from you!
DNF Sorry I didn't realize what this book was about. NEI was given in the blurb. It's not my cup of teas so I was unable to read the book. But thanks, its more for someone who enjoys horror books
Delaney Pace is such an amazing police officer but this case really pushes all her buttons.
When Noah Pinehurst, a local teenager, turns up dead, and one of his friends tells Delaney that she has been buried alive, Delaney and her partner Leo, have a lot of work to do.
Delaney and Leo solve the case despite their very different personalities and the twists and turns just keep on coming!
I loved this book and I just can't get enough of this series.
5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.
WoW............I was so looking forward reading Pamela's next book in this Detective Delaney Pace series - Her Hidden Grave by Pamela Fagan Hutchins and this is the second book I loved it.
This was another brilliant book that will grip you from the beginning till the end,
especially as it carries on where it left off from the first book called Her Silent Bones.
It was full of twists and turns throughout that will have you sitting on the edge if your seat.
Just Brilliant!
WoW..........I am looking forward to Pamela's next book Her Last Cry..........I do love it when you have a series you can get your teeth stuck into and end up reading it to the early hours of the morning - like this one has.
I highly recommend this audio/book I loved it!
Big Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Her Hidden Grave
I started this second book in the series right after the first book, so I was able to jump right back into the storyline. This was a great story following Detective Delany Pace in the search for answers regarding the high school football player who was found in the locker room. So many twists and turns reading this book. Overall, a great read and I will add Hutchins to my list of favorite authors!
I was given a free copy from Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review.
Book number 2 in the series. Such a great series. I am really enjoying reading it. I was hooked right from the start and couldn't put it down. Can't wait to dive in to number 3.
A brilliant story which continues from book 1.. I enjoy reading about Delaney and the rest of the team, great characters. I look forward to reading more
This series just flew into my top 10 of all time!! We are reunited with Delaney and Leo, as they investigate the death of local football hero and son of a prominent business man!
Now I love a police procedural - I like trying to figure out the why, the who, and so on! But there is no guessing what is going to happen next!
Delaney is a total bad ass!! Now I am going to start book 3 even though it’s past my bed time!! Absolutely brilliant
It is a fantastic story, exhilarating plot, well developed characters, and a well executed shocking ending. I read in one day, unputdownable and very addictive. Recommend to every thriller reader.
Keeps you guessing till the very last page. I loved the chase and all the actions. Its well written and fast pace. Looking forward to see how the story is going to evolve around Delaney and Leo :)
Delaney is called to the scene of the death of a star sports star at the local high school. Was it murder or suicide. Delaney had another web to untangle in this book.
A good mystery overall.
Onto book 3!!
Thanks to Bookouture, Pamela Fagan Hutchins, and NetGalley for providing an ARC; this is my unbiased review.

Review:
Going straight into this from book 1 was just like picking up a second season of a thrilling crime drama. The main characters are familiar, and you're looking forward to following them on whatever journey comes ahead. Well, buckle up crime thriller fans; this book is an extremely bumpy ride!
If anything, the action is even more gripping than in the first book, with Delaney’s hot-headedness and smart mouth both sparking from the fire that partner Leo has lit under her ass. The interplay between these two is fantastic, the plot is full of unseen twists, especially at the end, and I cannot wait to see what happens in book 3!

Mystery
In the second installment of the series, Detective Pace is called to the scene of a crime at one place it should never happen, the town’s high school. With one teen dead from an overdose of a pill laced with a lethal amount of fentanyl, she will stop at nothing to protect the teens of the town. Especially her new charge Kateena plus her friend.
This second book really hooked me on this series. I was so entranced by the character development and the cliffhangers that I could not put it down. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
Detective Delaney Pace Book 2.
I loved book 1 and immediately started this. This had a great plot with plenty of twists to keep me hooked from start to finish. I read it in two sittings as I didn't want to put it down.
When Detective Delaney Pace is called to a local high school in her small hometown of Kearney, Wyoming, she is devastated to find the body of star football player Noah Pinehurst slumped in the changing room, his team shirt hanging behind his lifeless body. Days later, two of his friends vanish from Noah’s memorial. Haunted by memories of her own father’s murder, Delaney is convinced that another twisted killer is stalking Kearney looking for victims. Can she find them before anyone else dies?
The second installment in the Detective Delaney Pace picks up right where the first one left off, so there's no confusion about what's happening... But it's also clear to anyone who's starting with Her Hidden Grave without any trouble. Another page-turning, suspenseful tale that keeps you guessing to the end -- highly recommended! The ending is satisfying yet also leaves you wanting for more, so it's wonderful that #3 is already ready and waiting!
As soon as I finished book 1 of this series, I knew I needed the next two books. Delaney Pace I will be everyone’s favorite new detective.
When a local teen football star turns up dead is an apparent overdose, Detective Pace and Deputy Leo Palmer are hard at work to find out what really happened. The dead boy’s father is a wealthy investor determined to prove that his son was murdered. As more people turn up dead and missing, Delaney and also are once again thrown into an investigation that challenges every part of their lives… especially the personal part that they are both trying so hard to ignore.
This is definitely a series book. I would say you would be very lost reading it as a standalone. I loved that about it. We got to know both Delaney and also better in this book. I was really glad to see Skeeter’s still around too.
Detective Delaney Pace and her partner Leo Palmer are back in the gripping and hard to put down, Delaney Pace series. This addictive page turner would work very well as a stand-alone book but as it is only the second book in a new series, one can easily go back and read the first book.
Delaney and Leo have their work cut out for them when the local star football player, Noah Pinehurst is found dead in the locker room. Then two more teens disappear but one stumbles into town covered in dirt and blood. When Delaney learns the description of the kidnapper, she is given a shock. Could it be? But this person is dead, right?
This was a fast paced and riveting book that kept me on my toes. I enjoyed the pacing, the writing, the tension, and the suspense. Delaney is a great character who has returned to her hometown to take raise her niece. She is intelligent, tough, caring and dedicated to both her niece and her job.
Pamela Fagan Hutchins has wowed me once again! Bring on the next book in the series!!!
Favorite Quotes:
I would have made it faster, but sadly I can’t twitch my nose and magically appear.
She smiled, showing lipstick on her teeth. It made her look like a vampire.
She wanted to sublimate into the atmosphere, as invisible as snow turning into water vapor.
My Review:
Book two maintains the smartly paced, near-constant action, and busy flinch-worthy storylines that began in book one. There is a staggering amount of murder occurring for a small town in Wyoming and I devised and cast off a multitude of theories concerning the guilty parties during perusal, but everyone was suspect and up to something. I couldn’t read fast enough to keep up with the dynamo of Delaney and enjoyed getting to know her better.
I am hooked on this series! Delaney Pace is a strong, smart female detective, I love the Wyoming setting, and the stories are fast-paced with lots of action. There is also good tension between Delaney and her partner, Leo, going beyond unfulfilled attraction in this installment, as well as friction between Delaney and the new/acting sheriff. There is a lot for Delaney and Leo to investigate in "Her Hidden Grave", starting with the death of a local teenager, Noah Pinehurst, from an apparent drug overdose in the locker room before a big game. He was the star of the football team and son of a wealthy developer, putting a lot of pressure on Delaney and Leo to find out what happened. Two other teenagers are missing, a woman is found dead with the same drugs that killed Noah at her side, and someone has been lurking outside Delaney's home -possibly her brother, who everyone thinks is dead except Delaney and Leo, who know he is not only alive but heading up a criminal enterprise. I didn't think the murderer's motivations were really compelling, but I loved everything else about this book and am eager to start #3 in the series!
