I loved this book! Based on the description, I thought all the drama was going to revolve around Cain, so was pleasantly surprised when it was Leah’s life with the drama. Lots of connections between characters I did not see coming. Lots of secrets and suspense. Lots of twists where you think a certain character is guilty of something to find out it is actually someone else. I don’t want to give too much away, but glad Leah does what she does in the end as far as her relationships go.
I enjoyed this book for the most part. Leah has struggled since she was 16 with trusting people. She had a fall out with her mom and now thinks her husband is cheating on her. When her old life comes back to her she doesn’t know what to believe. Definitely some twists I didn’t see coming.
Book 100 of 2023!!
I just finished this book on New Years Eve and as usual with books by Carla Kovach it has been a great thriller! I received a copy from Bookouture via Netgalley and it will be out on the 15th of January.
Leah lives with her husband Cain but somehow she still can't trust him after being cheated on in the past. Then, strangers appear and her world is turned upside down - a girl claims to be her daughter. However, her daughter died in childbirth. What is going on? Can she find out the truth? Who can she trust?
Loved this fast paced domestic thriller with some great twists I absolutely did not see coming! It doesn't happen often that I'm stuck guessing until nearly the end to find out what happened, but this one did!
An absolute recommendation!
5/5 ⭐
Leah thinks her biggest problem in life is that her husband might be cheating on her. However, as she tries to clear her late mom’s house, she is confronted by a girl claiming to be her daughter. This leads Leah on a treacherous path.
I thought this one had promise but it just wasn’t suspenseful for me. I think it took too long to build things up, and some of the twists seemed obvious.
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
On a Quiet Street is a gripping, can't-put-down psychological thriller. While from the outside, Leah's life looks perfect, it is, in fact, far from it. Leah believes her husband Cain is having another affair. Her estranged mother just past away and Leah never found out what her mother wanted to tell her before her death. And, now, she has an unknown teenager showing up at her door proclaiming that Leah is her mother. Who is Charlotte? Is it possible that Leah is her mother?
On a Quiet Street is fast-paced and full of twists and surprises. The story is told through four parts and two POVs. I really enjoyed first reading all of the events from Leah's perspective and then rereading them through the second POV's perspective. I think the dual storytelling added a lot to the overall plot. The book wasn't overly predictable, which was nice. I like to be surprised during thrillers. The characters are mostly relatable with a few very unlikable characters (but they're meant to be unlikable).
I will definitely be recommending On a Quiet Street to any fans of psychological thrillers. I will also be reading more of Carla Kovach's books.
The latest novel by Carla Kovach is somewhat lighter that the previous ones, although I liked it. I found the main character to be a little annoying at first and I gradually came to like her better. The fact that the story is described through the eyes of several characters is also nice. All in all a good story which I would recommend reading.
Leah is having a bit of a bad time. She thinks her husband has rekindled an old affair. She is having to clear her estranged dead mother's house and now she has been approached by a teenage girl saying that she is her mother.
This throw's Leah and she says it's impossible as she hasn't got a child. The girl then says she can prove it and Leah has to consider the possibility that her mother might have lied to her 18 years before.
This is a compelling tale that leads the reader up several dead ends before the truth is slowly revealed.
A very good read again from Ms Kovach.
This book started with a bang, and I was engrossed straight away. It drew me in!
However, the more the book went on the more far fetched, absurd and manic it became. It definitely felt like a book of two halves. The second half was just too ridiculous, and made me loose interest.
It felt like a completely different book altogether.
Overall, Kovach's writing style was right up my street but the plot itself just didn't know what it was. Couldn't keep me engaged.
I'm a big fan of Carla Kovach's work so I was thrilled to receive an advance copy of her latest offering.
This book explores the connection between Leah, her mum and a trio of adolescents who present at her house one night.
The book explores difficult themes, rape, miscarriage, adultery, toxicity and it keeps the reading guessing from start to finish.
Whilst enjoyable, this book didn't have the usual Kovach appeal for me. I think this may be because I prefer the police procedural she so effectively delivers. Nonetheless it is definitely worth a read.
This book follows Leah and Cain, a couple who have had their relationship troubles. Caine desperately wants a child whereas Leah has other ideas.
Leah and her mum, Jean have had a difficult relationship and following her passing, Leah finds herself reflecting upon their relationship. Jean left everything to Leah on her passing. Jean wanted to speak with Leah just before she died and Leah is ruminating on why this could be. Leah is tasked with clearing her late mothers home and is haunted by her troubled childhood.
A girl called Charlotte turns up and claims to be Leahs daughter. But Leah is convinced someone is watching her and things are not as they seem
I read this book in one day! It is a slow burner at the beginning but then it is a real page turner. I really like Leah as a character although her relationship with Cain is very frustrating. I did not see any of the twists coming in this book!
This book is similar to What Lies Between Us in terms of the mother daughter relationship and similar themes.
Would highly reccomend this to go onto your TBR list!
Thank you to netgallery and Bookouture

This book is so good! Imagine a teenaged girl turning up on your doorstep, claiming she’s your daughter, when you know that’s impossible.
So many layers to the story and as each twist peeled away the next layer, I was literally gasping out loud!
I didn’t feel the husband added much to the story, but aside from that, this is a fantastic read!
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Carla Kovach and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.
I LOVED this book. I read it in one sitting as I found it impossible to put down. I loved that it was told in two parts from two different people’s perspectives. It’s fast paced and keeps you guessing the whole way through. There is so much going on in this book but it all ties together nicely in the end! Anyone that enjoys domestic/psychological thrillers would enjoy this book. Highly recommend.
Just when you think you’ve got it figured out…a new twist! Such a good read and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time ! Highly recommend this book and author !
I have to say that this was not my favourite book by Carla Kovach, the author of the Gina Harte series which are fantastic books. This standalone book did not feel to have the quality of writing and depth of story that the detective series has
Leah and Cain are married but Leah is sure that Cain is having an affair, he comes home late from work smelling of some strong scent that Leah knows is not hers. One afternoon a young girl knocks on their front door and informs Leah that she is her daughter, this sends shock waves through Leah as she had a baby when she was 16 but the baby died. This conversation will ignite fear in Leah as she struggles to find out the truth behind this young woman’s visit and the fact she knows things that Leah believes have been hidden for years.
I did not relate well with Leah’s character and wanted to yell at her numerous times as she continued to stay with Cain, There are some unexpected twists that did provide entertainment but overall I know this book will not remain in my memory for too long. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review, 3 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for approving me to read this prior to release. Publication date January 15, 2024. I love a good psychological thriller/family drama, and this sounded right up my alley. Leah and he husband Cain are living in idyllic life (are they though...) until a mysterious teenage girl shows up on their doorstep. The twists and turns that follow are abundant (almost too much so for me) and keep you guessing. I was having a hard time focusing on getting this read as it was a bit muddled and confusing to me. It was obvious that things would tie together to give you an answer, but there was SO MUCH happening!! The story had a good premise, and had it been a little more concise and easy to read, it could have easily been 4 stars+ for me. Unfortunately, I had to knock it down a bit because of the confusing way the story was woven. I would probably check out another read bu this author in the future still. Thank you again for the opportunity to read and review before release!!
On a Quiet Street by Carla Kovach
Leah is married to Cain and they have no children. In the past Cain has cheated on Leah and now she cannot trust him at all. Every time Cain comes come home late from work Leah is convinced, he is cheating on her. Leah’s estranged mother has recently died and Leah is clearing out the house to get it ready for rent but the ghosts and memories from the past keep haunting her. When Leah was sixteen-years-old she gave birth to a baby girl that she thinks was still born, but now she has been contacted by eighteen-year-old Charlotte claiming she is her daughter. How can this be?
I loved this book! The first part is written from Leah’s point of view and part two is written from the point of view of the girl who believes she is her biological daughter. I usually can sort of work out the ending as I read the book but this story kept me guessing up till the end.
I would like to thank Net Galley and Bookouture for a copy of this eBook in exchange for an honest review

I enjoyed this book fir the most part, though it had a slow start and the writing style was a little stilted. The story centers on Leah, who is struggling with her husband Cain when 18 year old Charlotte shows up at the fire and claims to be Leah’s long lost child. The book is told initially from Leah’s POV, then from the child’s, and lastly from both.
It was hard to like Leah after the way she put up with Cain’s treatment of her. She also resorted to sneaky things to figure out if he really cheated on her where I thought there were better ways to find out. No character was super likable and a lot of the issues could’ve been solved from people just talking to each other. They were all always crying about everything too!! There were a couple twists in the book, some that I figured out and some that I didn’t. The back half of the book was much faster paced than the first part and I liked the ending.
Overall, decent read but wasn’t my favorite. I enjoy this author, though, and will read more from her. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
On a Quiet Street is a domestic thriller centred around Leah and the story surrounding the birth of her baby.
Packed full of lies, deceit and unlikeable characters, I enjoyed this book and didn’t trust any of them. Unfortunately, though, that meant I didn’t particularly warm to anybody and found it hard to get behind Leah and her quest for the truth.
It does have a couple of decent twists and was a quick and easy read that was suspenseful and dramatic.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy.
