Eh. I read this book in less than 24 hours...honestly, just to finish it. The beginning was really slow, it only picked up around the halfway point and if I hadn't received it from NetGalley for review I would have put it on my DNF shelf.
The book follows the main character, Leah in the first half and then the second half follows another character. I didn't really like either one of them. Leah was boring and she didn't have much of a backbone. She had many red flags with her husband but let him gaslight her and she ignored it all. Honestly, her character didn't make sense. In some ways she was strong willed but then in other ways she was weak.
The only character I cared for was Zara and she was mostly in the peripheral.
The plot was interesting with twists but none of them were realistic either.
Thanks for letting me read this book, NetGalley.
This book had me hooked instantly and it kept me reading. The tension build up was very well done and remained exciting.
❤️ On a Quiet Street by Carla Kovach
Genre: Psychological Thriller
I finished reading this a couple of days ago but forgot to post my review.
Oh wow! I loved this book so much and really is a ‘pull you into the storyline’ kinda book.
I love Carla Kovach’s crime series but these standalone thrillers really pack a punch when it comes to twists!
It’s written in current time from the main characters point of view and in the second part from another. I loved reading how their lives intertwined and carefully ties up all the loose ends you’ve been wondering about. The storyline was really great and had me hooked from the start as Carla really has a unique way of pulling you into her stories. Even when youre not reading, you still think about them and can’t wait to read more. I read this pretty much every spare minute I had since I started and finished within three sittings over a day. I just couldn’t get enough of it.
The storyline was complex but so cleverly written. It gripped me straight away and that prologue really had me wondering who wrote it that as the chapters progressed I kept changing my mind. That fabulous ending really was a great surprise. The lose ends were tied up brilliantly
Such a brilliant thriller!
Oh my word what a book, it had me up till late into the night to find out what happened.
Carla Kovach has done it again. An absolute rollercoaster of a ride.
Every family has its secrets. Some are more deadly than others…
I live on a quiet tree-lined street with my perfect husband Cain. But when 18-year-old Charlotte knocks on the front door, what she says has me questioning just how well I really know my husband.
‘I was adopted as a baby and I’m looking for my biological parents. I was told they live here.’
My heart races as I fear Cain has been keeping a huge secret from me. Does he have a child he never told me about? And has he been lying all these years?
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this arc.
4 stars
This was honestly a great read. There were times while reading it that if I heard a noise in the mouse, I would jump out of my seat. I had a hard time putting it down. It's a psychological thriller, and I'm a sucker for not being able to predict a story, and I wasn't able to predict much happening. It was all a surprise, and I love surprises. It gave me quite a bit of heart palpitations and hot flashes.
This story is about the main character, Leah, and speaks about her current life, the surprises happening, and looking into her past. You don't know whether she is crazy, and that's the best part. You also don't know who to trust when it comes to the people in her life, and there is a TON of gaslighting. It is the true definition of a psychological thriller.
There were aspects I didn't like, but that was mostly when it came to believing certain parts dragged a little too much. That's all I can say when it comes to the negatives. This review is hard not to give spoilers because I'd love to dive deeper into how everything folded out and the characters. It's a book you truly want to discuss after reading it.
This book will come out on January 14th, 2024, so add it to your TBR list because I don't think you'll regret it. It's a rollercoaster with a lot of loops.
Love it, read it, and get freaked out if you hear a noise. That's part of the thrill, after all.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for early access in exchange for my honest review.
Wow! Carla Kovach does it again! Such a gifted and truly amazing author. I really enjoyed this book. I had a huge travel day and picked this book to read on my journey. The characters were fantastic and made me feel like I was a part of this story. (And I may have read long into the night) And so many secrets and lies. The tension and twists were off the charts great. Thank you Carla Kovach’, NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Another excellent thriller from this author. Great storyline and great characters. Would recommend
This thriller is not to be missed. It centres around a woman who a knock on the door throws her whole existence up in the air as she tries to peace together the lies her family have been telling her. I won’t spoil it but don’t miss this one.
Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for this ARC. The publication date is the 15th Jan 2024.
Wow Carla Kovach has done it again what a fantastic thriller full of secrets and deception, the plot is full of twists and turns which had me on the edge of my seat and made read well into the night!
The characters lives were full of complexities and my favourite one was Charlotte as I would always wonder what would happen next for her! Wow, what an ending didn’t see it coming.
Overall, a brilliant book with lots of suspense, deception and lots of compelling twists and turns!
On a Quiet Street is a suburban psychological thriller. It is fast paced and demands of the reader that they devote time to finish it quickly.
Charlotte, a young woman claiming to be the daughter of a woman's husband shows up. Is the woman's husband full of secrets and lies? The plot thickens.
Charlotte turns out to know way too much about this couple and the wife has secrets of her own she needs to keep.
I recommend this book
A stand-alone from one of my favourite authors and one to keep the reader guessing to the end. The second part was more fast paced as the first part was building up the story. Not that I’m ruining it for anyone but from the ending, I reckon perhaps we might see one or more of the characters in the future.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
Leah is pretty confident her husband Cain is having another affair. When a girl claims to be her daughter she is confused. She never had a baby. But why is somebody stalking her?
And Angel isn’t adopted. She has living parents. So why is somebody telling her that Leah is her mum. And who is sending her nasty messages.
When will the truth come out?
Wow this was a page turner. Stupid sleep and work really got in the way of me finishing this. It’s told from Leah’s point of view to being, then the story is repeated from Angel’s prospective. So good. There is so much tension and you are just kept guessing over and over. And, just like you figure out who the stalker is, a massive twist of who they actually are comes into play. Could not get enough of this. An amazing book from an amazing author. 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I usually love this authors book. That said this one didn't hit the mark for me. I had a hard time getting into it. And just frustrated she was not leaving her husband. Not sure if she did in the end as I didn't get there sadly.
I think this book you will either love or be in the middle like me
Thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an early release of this book.
When a girl knocks on the door looking for her biological parents, Leah is determined to find out what is going on. A brilliant thriller full of secrets and suspense.
This book had me hook, line and seeker. Such an interesting and compelling journey that one takes to find the truth about their biological mother. Had many twists and can not wait to read more from this author.
I think people will like this if they like domestic thrillers. I just can't be bothered to read another book about a wife who won't leave her cheating husband. I just can't do it. I think this could be a solid three star thriller to add to my library, as this is a popular plot for a reason!
My Review:
Wow, wow, and more wow!!!!! I couldn’t put this one down for the life of me. I read this in just a few sittings. I had to finish it and quick. I’m so glad I did. That ending was shocking and left me totally speechless with all the twists and turns it had. I thought my head was going to explode by the end. This was another fantastic read by this fantastic author. I just love her books so much. She does such a great job of keeping the reader gripped and on the edge of your seat throughout the entire book. I think it has a lot to do with all the well written characters in them. In this book each character had a purpose and each of them brought out different emotions. That made this one great. Now let’s talk plot. Secrets and lies, what could be more intriguing than that. Not much in my opinion. Last up is that heart attack of an ending. I couldn’t believe it. Never would I have ever guessed that in a million years. I knew something big was going on but OMG when I found out what it was. It all came full circle in the end. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A great read and storyline with good characters.
I got into the book from the very first page and I thoroughly enjoyed this page turner.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture and I can thoroughly recommend.
I don’t usually say this in my reviews but I am making an allowance for this story - WOW!
This story had me in complete turmoil, it was a difficult tale but I couldn’t stop reading.
The characters were believable as well as relatable. My heart went out to Leah, the writing was so good that I could feel her pain.
The storyline blew me away and certainly had me on the edge of my seat and my heart pounding.
This is a superb psychological thriller with many secrets and lies.
My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is my first book of this author and I really loved the story/plot/twists. Even if it was a bit slow at first and I was irritated with one character not standing up for themselves, it did pick up in the second part ! I really loved the ending.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for access to this Arc in exchange for my honest review.
