I really loved this book. The story is about Janie who is involved in a tragic accident at 18 which leaves her in a coma for a long time and when she recovers from that she has to go into assisted living with her father as she is unable to look after herself. The accident was caused by a van in which three teenage boys were returning from a gig. One of the boys brother’s was driving while on drugs and intoxicated. Robbie Manning, of the boys tried to steer the van to avoid a collision but to no avail. The boys do not call an ambulance or the police and have to live with the guilt always wondering if their day in court will come which it eventually does. Robbie is the main character from the band and the one that suffers the most with his conscience and the way the book is written brings that home. He is devastated once the crime can out as he is a family man and finds it hard to deal with also due to his lovely wife and children finding out. I found the Court part of the book intriguing. One of the characters, Vanessa who works in the Court as a volunteer comes into the story and I really took to her character. She has terrible drama in her life but seems to be able to still help others. Many secrets come out in the book which makes you think deeply including a secret the Judge has and who is he Judge in the Robbie Manning case. This is a must read for me
Another wow to this book it was fantastic the story was excellent the way everything came together is pure genius. Poor Janine was left for dead when she was knocked off her bike by a white van unfortunately because of her injuries she couldn’t remember much about it. I couldn’t wait to read the next page I was really hooked from beginning to end,
I definitely recommend this book and I would give 10 stars if I could.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher got an ARC
My first venture into Jane Corry so I had no expectations. I was very pleasantly surprised.
I hurtled through this novel at the rate of knots, only necessary sleep pausing my endeavour.
The pace at which Corry sets the scene of the multiple core characters was satisfying, and the subsequent ramping up building to a breathless crescendo of unbelievable twists which are exactly what any good story should entice you into a fascinating world of deception, guilt, intrigue and fury. Any reader passionate for well-written thrillers will be suitable entertained and highly satisfied.
Well this took me no time at all, really struggled to put it down, loved how it told the story from different characters point if view that all tied together in the end
I received a free copy from NetGalley to review, below is the blurb
"They tried to bury the truth about that fateful accident. But now it's come back to haunt them...
Beautiful young Janie White, leaving her past behind and taking the first steps into adulthood.
World-famous rockstar, Robbie Manning, who harbours a shocking secret.
Witness support officer Vanessa, recently widowed and desperate to right the wrongs of her past.
Three people brought together by a terrible tragedy that leaves a town shaken and lives changed forever."
The blurb doesn't give much away about the story, but it doesn't have to. I have read enough of Jane Corry's books to know that I will enjoy it. I say this every time but Jane Corry is so not the type of book I normally read but I love her books. The format is always the same, a handful of central characters that at first seem only loosely connected with different chapters concentrating on different character's stories. As the book progresses we understand how the stories are interwoven. Another great read, I can't fault it, loved the character's Vanessa and the Judge best and their friendship. Definitely encourage anyone to read Jane Corry's books they are addictive.
This was so cleverly written! I absolutely loved it. Really clever story and a host of characters that did the story justice (pun intended) 5 stars from me.
I died on a Tuesday by Jane Corry
Well what can I say? An excellent beginning began losing all credibility by half way through, and to be honest I couldn’t wait to finish it, and at times doubted I would. A ridiculous plot with the intertwining of fairly weak and incredulous characters throughout. The final ‘twist’ was welcomed, but by then, for this reader, the damage was done. Shame, as I really wanted to like it a lot.
What a story! This book really does take you on a journey… twist & turns all over the place right up until the very last page. From the way every character links together, to the suspense of what actually happened on that fateful day to other supporting characters narrative and secrets… this book was a whirlwind of everything that you could want.
I read this over 2 days & highly recommend it!
Thank you to netgalley and storm publishing for the oppurtunity to read this from Jane Corry.
Im not new to Jane Corry and ive Always enjoyed her books. So I knew that I wanted to read this book because I knew there was no chance. I wouldn't enjoy it. This book did not disappoint. I did find the there was a lot of characters that I had to get used to and I did get a little bit confused at times but all of the characters did end up tying together in one way or another. I did struggle to put this book down because I really wanted to know what was going to happen next because I just couldn't call it at all. I would definitely recommend giving this book a go because if you are a Jane Corry fan like myself then you will not be disappointed because as always she comes through and gives an amazing book.
I was hugely disappointed by this book. The story is good, but unrealistic and the characters one-dimensional. It is written in a very simplistic style, and I found myself skim-reading just to see what happened. With more character development, and better writing this would have been a good book, but t just didn't appeal to me I'm afraid.
I Died on a Tuesday by Jane Corry
Twenty years ago, Janie White was in a terrible hit and run accident, it was only a miracle that she survived at all and the person responsible was never found. now twenty years later Robbie Manning a famous singer is being arrested for the hit and run. Vanessa is a court support worker, she is there to support the witnesses that have to testify in court, she is recently widowed and misses her husband very much. Vanessa is going to support Janie as she gives her testimony in court.
.
This book is mostly written from Janie, Vanessa and Robbie’s point of view.
I enjoyed this this book very much and could not wait to find out how it ends.
I would like to thank Net Galley and Penguin General UK Publishers for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Three people whose lives become entwined through a terrible accident. The characters were interesting and with a fast paced storyline this was a compulsive read.
Thanks to Netgalley for a digital copy of this book,
3.5 stars
Years ago there’s a terrible accident which is never resolved. Three points of view takes us from the past and catches up with the present. There’s young Janie White whose bright future is ahead of her, Robbie Manning, a family man who is a world famous rock star and finally retiree Vanessa, a witness service support officer. Three people, a tragedy, lives that are changed forever. Are second chances possible?
I think the first two thirds of this latest book by Jane Corry is really good. The storyline has me in a firm grip, elements of it are very creative especially one of the points of view which at times feels almost surreal. The point of view of Vanessa is very interesting due to the witness support angle which is a bit different and provides a fascinating connecting branch to the plot. The three contrasting perspectives works really well and there really is a contrast which I thoroughly enjoy. The author has created some interesting characters here although I do wonder whether a couple are a bit stereotypical. The dilemmas that each key character faces is very well done and nothing seems straightforward at all which keeps you reading on as each has secrets they are keep to keep well below the radar. Parts of the unfolding drama are chilling and hard hitting as few punches are pulled. There are some good twists and the pacing works well.
However, in the last part of the book I feel it gets too convoluted, the plot becomes too busy and it seems as if the author has chucked in everything but the kitchen sink. It makes me dizzy! One character’ naivety is hard to believe, parts are rather convenient and I have my doubts over some courtroom scenes. Also, did I miss something? What is the significance of the day thing??? That leaves me rather baffled!
This is such a shame as the first two thirds is a cracking read.
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Penguin General UK for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
This book covered the viewpoint of three characters and it keeps you reading to find out how they are connected. Full of twists and turns throughout with plenty of surprises. The only thing I would have liked is a more balanced argument towards cyclists because it looks like the book is pro cyclist but then two reveals make it an anti cyclist message. I think one of these should have been changed to make a more balanced viewpoint. I did not like how she ended up in hospital because of a cyclist. It felt too much. I also liked how she heard her husband's voice but when Judge started hearing his partner's voice from beyond, it felt too samey. Otherwise a brilliant read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
A gripping read - interwoven stories making it complicated but interesting. I felt the story was sad and sometimes upsetting and the ending wasn’t as satisfying as I’d hoped it would be, but the characters were complex and realistic and the storyline was interesting.
This was an exceptionally twisty read that gradually reveals just what happened one morning when a van crashing into a cyclist causing the cyclist to suffer catastrophic injuries, however as the van drove the identity of the driver remained a mystery until he is indentified as part of a plea deal twenty years later. Victim Janie tells her perspective through singing and typed text, she is supported in court by Vanessa who has her own personal issues to content with and pop star Robbie is both relieved and terrified when he is charged over the accident. The story weaves between each of their perspectives following events now and reflecting back on the accident and there are so many parts to this that just aren’t what they seem. Vanessa’s story is astonishing but I personally feel it distracted from the main story which just had so many threads running through it. Even when you think the story has reached its natural end there’s further revelations to come which leave you questioning the entire justice system.
Nice easy read about the consequences of an accident from all angles and perspectives. Loved the setting and characters, though some of the story lines were a bit far fetched
When Janie is hit by a van in a hit and run accident on her bicycle, her world changes forever. So does Robbie Manning's life change when he is arrested for the hit and run twenty years later.
Robbie was in a pop band when the accident happens and confesses to the crime. In prison he is receiving notes to stay quiet, so we know as a reader there is more to the story than initially though.
Vanessa has recently lost her policeman husband and volunteers as witness support. Her life also changes when she realises she has a daughter and grandson she never realised existed after losing her daughter at birth (or so her husband told her).
Janie has found a singing voice after years of not being able to talk following strokes from the accident.
I died on a Tuesday goes back in time and is also told in the present. It's a well written book by a good author, and well worth a read.
Wowee- so many secrets coming to light. Really enjoyed this one, particularly all the trusts and turns in the plot.
What a tangled life they all led!
