Yet another good read from Jane Corry. Just when you get comfortable thinking that everything is settled for the better, another big kick comes in that makes you challenge what in fact is the truth. A lesson in how we can all be guilty to some degree.
A successful rock star has been haunted for twenty years by the memory of a road accident in which a beautiful young woman was left for dead and survived with life changing injuries.. Now he's been arrested and charged with the crime. Jane, the victim, is to be supported in court by Vanessa, a kindly older woman whose life has been shadowed by the death soon after birth of her only child.. The story from before the accident is told and leaads into the present day court room drama. Its a complex and clever plot, and it will keep yopu turning the pages.
I really enjoyed this thriller.
A Fantastic story with lots of secrets and connections to discover.
A hard one to put down.
This book was brilliant! Pop star Robbie has been waiting years for the knock on the door; and when it finally came it was a relief. He is arrested for leaving Janie for dead after his van hit her bike 20 years earlier. Janie didn’t die though, and this is the story of what actually happened that day; interwoven with tales of corruption and deceit involving Vanessa the courier officer; and the court judge: This story was brilliant.
What a read... i couldnt put the book down.... different people with different lives are connected in some way because of an accident .... Janie white gets knocked down by a van and there are implications because of that,,, however this is a hit and run.. this accident is going to bring the lives of three people together and others that are exposed to the effect this has on a town .....
I was hooked on the first page, definitley a recommendation to read and a five star review from me
Robbie Manning, famous rockstar, is arrested after being accused of a 20 year old crime. Initially he pleads guilty only to change his mind after talking to his wife. So starts an intriguing new novel by Jane Corry and it has me captivated with all the twists and turns.
I have absolutely fell in love with this book.
It had me hooked from the start until the final full stop.
The characters have depth and strong personalities.
The story evolves around Janey, who is on the verge of moving from her home town in Dorset for the bright lights of London to work in her dream job at a publication house. But when tragedy strikes and she is left for dead what if anything does her future hold?
Robbie is a devoted family man and a famous singer, even after twenty years he still thinks of the girl he danced with but never knew her name.
How is Robbie connected to what happened to Janey all those years ago and what impact will it have for his wife and children?
This book was just a delight to read, with all the characters interlocking together.
Very clever investigation into a hit and run. Covering multiple years. Many twists and turns, characters, threats, bribery, rotten cops, This story had it all, even a little romance/friendship and a discovered daughter and grandson. I enjoyed the read and found the ending satisfying, if a little unexpected with regard to the Judge. However, it shows why people hide actions, how they try to aswage their guilt and the fact that the truth will out in the end, relieving the guilty party of the weight they have been carrying.
Quite a page turner with many twists in the story. This is told mainly from the perspective of three people – Robbie, a talented singer and songwriter, Vanessa, a retired store detective and lastly Janie, whose life is drastically changed when she is run over by Robbie and seriously injured. Robbie was in a van with other members of his band when Janie is knocked off her bike and instead of calling for help they drove off and left her thinking she was already dead. Vanessa was married to a policeman, who had been slightly controlling and doesn’t really want her working. She is thrilled when she becomes pregnant as having a family is something she really wants. When she has a fall one day and goes into early labour she thinks she has lost the baby and is inconsolable. All of their lives become entwined when Robbie is discovered to have been at the wheel of the van when it hits Janie and Vanessa, who is a court volunteer, looking after witnesses is involved with the court case. There are a few other characters in the story but without giving too much away, one of them is known as ‘Judge’ and he becomes friendly with Vanessa and helps her when her life becomes difficult. Some bits of the story seem slightly unbelievable, such as Janie not being able to talk but being able to give evidence in court by singing. Having said that this book is fast paced and leaves you wanting to know what happens so I would recommend this. Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this ARC.
WOW, what a page turner this is, I've never read a book quite like it!!! I was totally engrossed from beginning to end and couldn't turn the pages quickly enough. Huge 5 stars.
This story about victim/witness support is interesting with twists at the end. I found it difficult to engage with the characters though as the story is written in sections which don’t come together until the reader is approaching the end of the book. This made me feel that the pieces were disjointed and while i realised that they would join up it took a while to start the process. The main character was seriously naive in her early relationship with a new member of the family which felt unlikely.

Beautiful young Janie White, leaving her past behind and taking the first steps into adulthood. World-famous rockstar, Robbie Manning, who harbours a shocking secret.
Witness support officer Vanessa, recently widowed and desperate to right the wrongs of her past. Three people brought together by a terrible tragedy that leaves a town shaken and lives changed forever. When you've taken a life, do you deserve a second chance
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin for giving me an advance copy.
Another brilliant book from Jane Corry. Not my absolute favourite but intriguing, exciting and gripping all the same. Many thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for this early copy. Fabulous.
Thanks go to Netgalley and Penguin Random House for the ARC of this book.
Another absolutely amazing book by Jane Corry. From the first chapter onwards I was hooked. The characters all made sense on their own and when their stories entwined I was blown away. I have no idea where Jane gets her inspiration from but hope it keeps giving us more fantastic books in the future.
Oh this was really good! I do love this author's books, she knows how to write a good story.
It was extremely sad at times with some truly horrific characters. I loved Vanessa! I would recommend all books by this author.
Three people brought together by this tragedy. I really enjoyed the start and middle. Definitely kept me intrigued and wanting to know how it all fit together and the character’s involvement in the accident. The end felt a little flat. I guessed a few of the twists because it was quite simple. Overall I enjoyed this book.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy in return for an honest review.
I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Jane Corry’s earlier novels, each constructed around an ordinary and thus believable female character. I was thus initially cautious whether I wanted to read this, her latest novel, as the character at the heart of it, Robbie, is a famous musician. Could a departure from Corry’s winning formula deliver a novel that was just as enjoyable? In two words: it could. The plot switches between different viewpoints in the past and in the present and explores if Robbie is guilty of a hit-and-run, some twenty years earlier, that left a beautiful woman by the name of Janey will life-altering injuries. What will the result of Robbie’s trial be? Will his family stand by him? Jane Corry remains in fine form as this novel takes its place among her fifteen former works. Highly recommended!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the advance copy of this book that allowed me to write this completely unbiased review.
This felt like a bit of a return to form for Jane Corry following her previous book, Coming to Find You, which I found a little disappointing.
Centring around a hit and run accident twenty years earlier and the present day consequences, it's an intriguing read which keeps your attention. There's a fairly complex plot with a number of different strands - Vanessa in the present, Vanessa in the past, Robbie in the present, Robbie in the past, Janie in the present, Janie in the past, Judge in the present, Judge in the past. There's an awful lot happening in this story - maybe too much, at times. (I'm not really sure what the "Janie's mum" strand added to the story, for instance.) I'm also unsure what the Tuesday/Wednesday stuff signified - did I miss something? It did feel like the author had just chucked in everything she could think of, leading to a sense of overkill at times.
Anyway, that aside, it's an engaging read, and I do always enjoy a courtroom drama. Vanessa's role as a witness support volunteer was new to me and it was interesting to learn about that. And it's impossible not to feel for her over the Lewis business. It's nice to see an older woman as a main character.
An enjoyable read, even if the pudding felt a bit over-egged. Thanks for the opportunity to read and review!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Penguin General and Jane Corry for my ARC of 'I Died on a Tuesday' in return for an honest review.
i like this author and this was another good read.
The novel is based around Janie White who was run over two decades ago and left for dead. Robbie Manning, a famous rock star is arrested for this some twenty years later and Vanessa, a volunteer witness support officer is set to assist Janie when the court case is heard.
There are secrets and lies all around and each person involved is hiding something. A complex plot which kept me on the edge of my seat.
Good read and recommended
I've read and enjoyed a few of the author's previous novels, I loved Coming to Find You, her last novel and was drawn to I Died on a Tuesday by the title.
What links Janie White, a young woman left with life changing injuries after a hit and run, rock star Robbie Manning and court witness support volunteer, widow Maggie?
I absolutely loved the premise of the novel and it started off so well. I was completely drawn into the stories of the three characters, particularly Maggie, grieving her late husband and the stillborn child she had many decades ago. The first half of the novel worked well and was so compelling and gripping that I felt it was destined to be a five star read. However I did feel that one of the sub plots involving Maggie became slightly ridiculous and the number of characters and coincidences involved by the end of the novel became melodramatic and unbelievable. An promising novel that ended in disappointment.
3.5 stars
