The plot revolves around Janie, a young girl knocked off her bike in 2004. She is left for dead by the driver and ends up in a coma, after waking she has life changing injuries and is unable to speak. She can only communicate through her computer or through singing.
In 2024 Robbie is arrested for the crime and the book takes us through the subsequent trial as well as flashbacks from both Janie and Robbie to show us what actually happened that day and who is telling the truth.
The story also involved Vanessa, a volunteer at the court who looks after witnesses, her job is to make Janie as comfortable as she can during the trial as we read on we find out how she is involved in the main plot.
The story was well plotted and I liked the different mix of characters and how their stories intertwined. I did feel like the plot became a little far fetched as it reached the end but an enjoyable read overall.
3.5 stars.
When a beautiful young woman is knocked off her bike and left for dead in a devastating hit and run, the person responsible isn’t discovered for twenty years.
A much loved musician is arrested for the crime and this story is told from both his perspective, the woman who’s life was destroyed and the wife of the late detective who was covering the case twenty years ago.
Jane Corry is fast becoming one of my go-to’s when I want a good, fast paced thriller with great twists. I loved the characters in this and how they were all connected in some way. I really enjoyed this book
This was such an enjoyable book it kept me hooked from start to finish and I couldn’t put it down. It is told from the viewpoint of 3 main characters and all ties together very well. I would definitely recommend it
THERE'S THE STORY EVERYONE BELIEVES....
The victim: Eighteen-year-old Janie, leaving home for a new life.
The criminal: World famous rock star, Robbie, who harbours a shocking secret.
The protector: Witness support officer, Vanessa, desperate to right the wrongs of her past.
.... AND THERE'S THE TRUTH.
Three main characters with Janie, the victim, Robbie, the alleged culprit, and Vanessa, a support worker at the court who helps the people giving evidence,
Although this was an enjoyable read, I still felt there was something missing that I couldn't put my finger on. Filled with twists, I was never quite sure where the story would lead. It's told from multiple perspectives. I felt for all the characters and the situations they were in. We also get points of view from other characters which helps to develop the story more. The characters are complex.

would like to thank netgalley and the publishers for letting me read this compelling book
oh my word what have i just read....
this is written with three peoples point of view
janie the victim
robbie the criminal
vanessa the witness support officer....
janie was left for dead in fact she did die... but she was revived but her life was never going to be the same again.....
robbie was arrested 20 years later for the crime of hit and run against janie
vanessa is the witness support officer that is assigned to look after janie during the trail
but oh man so much happens with threats and intimidation towards everyone that you never know what is going to happen whenever you turn the page over... but its compelling reading....
one of the best reads i have had for quite a while
I’ve just finished reading I died on a Tuesday and I’m divided by it, Although I liked the story I found it quite frustrating with the characters that they let events happen to them the way that they did, I can’t go into details without spoiling the story but I know that’s it’s fiction but it seemed so much coincidence just wouldn’t happen. That said it wasn’t awful and would probably make a good TV series.
Absolutely brilliant. One of those stories that has multiple, strong and riveting plot lines which all dance around each other and intertwine in a beautifully choreographed masterpiece. There are some really strong and dark themes from domestic abuse and coercive control, to hit and run snapshots in time which completely ruin a young girls life. There are also journeys into the criminal underworld and the dark underbelly of prison life.
The many twists and turns and sudden jolts of action kept me mesmerised throughout. The sadder parts of life, regret and despair are absolutely palpable and I felt them in waves but the ending gave me peace and made me smile. A definite recommend from me.
Although the premise of this story was interesting and there were plot twists galore, I found it too simplistic for me. Too many of the characters had dark secrets; Vanessa was too gullible by far; there were too many coincidences; the court scenes were unrealistic. Having said all that it still kept me reading. Sorry, not the best Jane Corry book I have read.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Jane Corry/Penguin General UK for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.
The van. The bike. The crunch
That’s the memory that haunts the dreams of successful musician Robbie Mannering, even 20 years after he was involved in a serious accident. Happily married with two children, Robbie has enjoyed the fruits of first being in a popular band followed by a successful solo career, but still lives in dread of the police one day knocking on his door.
On the other hand, 18 year old Janie White has led a very different life to the one she was expecting. Brought up by her father after her mother disappeared, she was excited to be on the brink of moving to London to start her dream job as an editorial assistant in a publishing company. However, one morning after riding home from her daily swim at the beach, she had a horrific accident. Grievously injured and near death, she heard voices discussing whether to call the police, but then they disappeared and she was left alone on the road with her mangled bike. She will need years of therapy and never be the same again.
Vanessa, a retired store detective, now works at the courts as witness service volunteer, supporting nervous witnesses about to give evidence. When he was alive her police officer husband was called to the scene of Janie’s accident and was part of the investigating team and it always haunted him that the perpetrators were never found. Vanessa had always longed for a big family, but her only child died at birth and she was unable to have any more.
Although Vanessa really misses not having grandchildren in her life, her job supporting witnesses keeps her busy and makes her feel that she is giving something back to society. She has also formed a close platonic friendship with one of the judges and regards him as someone she can confide in. Being assigned to help Janie give testimony in court will inadvertently lead to uncovering lies told to her by her husband and change her life in ways she could never have expected.
The plot is told from the point of view of these three complex protagonists, Robbie, Janie and Vanessa, which works really well in contrasting their lives and giving the reader an emotional stake in what happens to them. Some excellent twists keep the plot interesting, especially once the trial gets underway. The pacing is perfect, making it easy to become engaged with each of the characters in turn. The tension intensifies as the trial ramps up and the reader’s perception of events changes. Although I usually enjoy having all the story lines tied up by the author, in this case I did find the ending overly detailed, but that’s a minor gripe in an otherwise complex and compelling mystery.
Again a new author for me and for my first book it was brilliant. So well written, story balances on 3 main characters and throws some curve balls. Just loved it and can highly recommend
My thanks as always to NetGalley and to Penguin General UK - Fig Tree, Hamish Hamilton, Viking, Penguin Life, Penguin Business | Penguin for the early read
This is an excellent standalone psychological thriller. I loved the author's compassionate style of writing and felt real sympathy for all the characters. It's so gripping and intriguing that I read it in one sitting. The outcome is extrordinary and unpredictable. Highly recommended.
I have always loved Jane Corry's writing, and this novel is no exception!
We first meet Janie when she is cycling home from swimming in the sea. It's one of her favourite things to do, and helps her feel close to her Mother who is missing presumed dead. Although Janie doesn't think that she is.
Years later, we meet world-famous singing sensation Robbie as he is arrested for a the hit and run of a young woman that happened when his former band were just starting our. His fellow bandmates are no where to be seen as Robbie takes the flack for what happened.
Witness protection volunteer Vanessa is grieving the loss of her husband Jack, and still hears his voice in her head, she tries to support those she comes across in her day job as much as she can, but sometimes its hard.
What could these people possibly have in common?
The forthcoming trial for justice for the 'girl who came back from the dead' of course.
Janie was feared dead at the scene, and was in a coma for months after her accident, her injuries severe and disabling. She was left unable to walk, or indeed talk. More recently she has been able to communicate via song.
New evidence has also come to light, meaning that the alleged perpetrator Robbie, can now be bought to justice.
Robbie insists his innocence at first, but then he is threatened and in fear of his family's lives he changes his plea to guilty, ending up in prison awaiting trial. His wife Irena and his supportive lawyer reach out to him during this time, as he is clearly going through hell.
Together they persuade him to do the right thing, and he changes his plea. What happened all those years ago has haunted him his entire life, and he is determined to right his wrongs, but also move on with his life.
With potentially deadly consequences.
A brilliant story with a multitude of twists and turns with equal amounts of suspense. A real page turner which had me hooked from start to finish. A tale told at a great pace and who knows where it’s going?
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review.
Another enjoyable book from Jane Corry, if you like a Jane Corry book you won't be disappointed, if you haven't read any of hers before this will set you on the right pathway.
Lots of twists in turns in this one to keep the reader guessing. The characters some very likeable and some very unlikeable all brought a lot to the story. Cleverly written in a way that linked all the characters lives in one way or another over the years.
Thank you to Penguin General UK - Fig Tree, Hamish Hamilton, Viking, Penguin Life, Penguin Business, Jane Corry and Netgalley for an ARC in return for an honest review.
A well written story with lots of twists and turns for the most part...but maybe a few too many towards the end of the book as my head was spinning! I liked the relationships between the characters for the most part which emerged throughout the story and particularly liked Vanessa as a character.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
Great writing and a thrilling story that had lots of twists and turns and kept me engaged throughout
It really did keep me reading and dont usually say but it was unputdownable
A very enjoyable read
A thoroughly enjoyable book. It starts with Janie being knocked off her bike and being left for dead. It then jumps between Janie, Robbie who was in the van, Vanessa, the wife of the policeman who investigates the crime and the Judge who tries Robbie. Each section is clearly marked as to who's story is being told. As each section is very short so the story moves rapidly. Once started, I read the book very quickly as I wanted to find out more about each character's story and how they fitted together. My only negative comment would be the final part about Judge - no spoiler.
This was a great read and kept me gripped. The story is told in dual time lines and from multiple POV. With lots of twist and turns that kept the story constantly evolving so it you felt your own thought process were not clear.
There were three main characters Janie, a young woman looking for a new life, Robbie a world famous rockstar and Vanessa whose job is to protect witnesses. There are also lots of side characters with their own impact to the story and their own reasons to confuse.
I have read Jane Corry before and I will definitely read her again.
Thanks to Penguin and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A multiple point of view with twists and turns to keep you guessing until the very end.
I really enjoyed 'I died on a Tuesday'. It was well written and I thought the multiple points of view were a great idea and kept the reader guessing throughout.
I will be recommending this book to anyone who likes stories with twists and turns and this book definitely didn't disappoint!
I found this read quite emotional, secrets eventually revealed after a long time, regrets too late?
Thought provoking and compelling,I raced through this book
