I really enjoyed this book. I've been looking for something similar to help expand my skills and this was absolutely perfect to achieve my goals.
This was the perfect pattern book to own. I like the different options for having the dog either sit or stand. These will make the perfect gift for a loved one with one of these breeds.
I received a copy of this eBook in exchange for a honest review from netGalley.
These dogs are so cute. Almost life size representations of smaller breed dogs designed 3 way-standing, sitting and laying down. I loved the detailed instructions on how to do the fur patterns. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wanted to crochet a dog for themselves!
This book includes 14 patterns for 10 different breeds. It starts with pictures of the finished product and then details all of the required tools and materials. Some of the tools were new to me, like the slicker brush. It's normally used by a groomer but is used to loosen grafted yarn in some of these patterns.
The book continues with basic construction and then gets into each breed.
It included clear pictures and easy to understand instructions. Given that, I think a book would be easier to follow than an ebook
I received an ARC from Netgalley
As someone who has recently learned to crochet this book was helpful with this collection of 14 adorable amigurumi dogs features designs that look so lifelike. Will definitely get round to crocheting them all eventually
Oh this is perfect, the best book for any crochet and dog lovers. It’s very well planned out and very descriptive.
Crochet Your Own Dog is a wonderful collection of 14 canine amigurumi with tutorials by Mieko Shindo. Released 5th March 2024 by Zakka Workshop, it's 128 pages and is available in paperback format. Originally published in Japanese, this English translation is seamless and easy to read.
The book is logically laid out and accessible. The graphics are appealing and clear. The book is lavishly illustrated and I really appreciate the closeness and detail of the photography. The book also has a thumbnail gallery in the table of contents which is helpful.
The intro is followed by a large section of photographs of the finished projects in different settings. They're close up, clear, and easy to understand. The inspiration gallery is followed by a well explained general construction tutorial including instructions for completing the parts, grafting, and sewing construction.
The tutorial directions are pared down, and readers will need to flip back and forth from the tutorial directions to the photographs (or copy the directions to a scrap sheet and keep the photos/process pics open to follow).
Really pretty designs, well designed, realistic, and appealing.
Five stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes
Wow! These dogs are adorable, and so REAL looking! At first glance, they look impossible to make, but the author provides detailed instructions using directions, charts, drawings, and plenty of photos. I'd say it will take a lot of work to make one of these sweet pups, but the finished product will be well worth your efforts. AND, you won't have to walk it.
What an adorable collection of toy dogs to crochet. Would be great for gifts and home decor for the dog lovers. The instructions are clear, with photos. Looks like a lot of work but the end result is likely to be completely satisfying. Would be great if there are videos as well. While you can find free dog crochet patterns online, none are realistic as these ones are. Just amazing! Should be in every crocheter’s library.
How cute are these little pooches!?!
Such a big choice of babies to make and such a well-written.
I don't know which to make first.
The little Yorkie is definitely my favourite!!

I love this! I’ve always wanted to learn to crochet, so when I saw this I knew it was time. The patterns are very comprehensive and I appreciated the pictures for the initial steps. The dogs are all very cute. I can’t wait to make my first one!
This book contains extremely clear and clever crochet patterns to create your average small dog! Eerily life like and looking super soft, Shindo has provided a pathway to have miniature dogs everywhere. The patterns are extremely well thought out and easy to follow. There are many reference photos, and most importantly photos within the patterns to make sure that the crocheter gets each step correctly. However, this book may not be for beginners, if someone is determined, it would not be too difficult to follow the instructions. The patterns are written in words as well as visually via Xs to demonstrate a stitch, and O to represent a chain stitch. for example. I am very excited to recreate my own dog, although not a small dog, the patterns are easily adaptable to accommodate your own specific dog.
The designs in this books are so sweet and the instructions are very clearly presented. This style of crochet is quite unique in the amount of "fluff creation" required and I did struggle to get this right but with trial and error I will hopefully come closer to the dogs in the book!

It’s pawfectly cute! A definite must try if you love crafts, crocheting and/or cute pups.
🐾 The beginning of the book features a cute photo shoot of all the fluffy little dogs the book will teach you to crochet.
🧶 It then goes into all the supplies needed, followed by a step-by-step pictorial process on how to stitch each body part, assemble them together based on your preferred pooch pose, graft and trim the fur, and add the eyes/nose.
🐩 The final section features a 5 page spread for each dog that details: tools and materials needed, yarn combination chart, construction steps with views of final product from front/back/side, crochet symbol keys, and grafting and finishing steps. There is also a handy reference page at the very end, for basic crochet symbols and stitching.
📸 What I love about this is the photography and selection of common indoor pups. The colors are easy to customize, and the instructions seem really clear. This is definitely worth owning if you love crafts.
📌 I hope to try one of these soon. When I do, I’ll post to my “I made it” shelf on GoodReads if you want to follow @sassylittlehippie for updates.
Thanks to NetGalley, Zakka Workshop, and Mormon Shindo for providing me with a complimentary ARC to review!

Absolutely adorable project ideas presented in a tidy, clear format. The projects are a bit more complex than the scope of my youth groups, but are exciting personal projects. I especially love the techniques for grafting fur to make the dogs look and feel realistically cute!
