Bookstore owner Hannah reads on the news that someone named Alice Hughes has been found dead in a hotel in their small town. While putting her husband's jacket in the closet, she finds a door card of the same hotel in his pocket and suspects that Max may be involved in the crime and has cheated on her with Alice. He has been behaving strangely lately too, even though he claimed that he is going through a difficult period at work.
Trying to investigate on her own, Hannah runs into Alice's friend Taylor, who also wants to know what happened.
When Max has once again told Hannah he has to stay at work longer, soon the police appears at the door, telling Max was attacked and is in hospital. It turns out that he does not remember the last six months of his life. No way for Hannah to confront him now..
In addition to all the difficulties of keeping her daughter Poppy away from Max and dealing with suspicions, Hannah is often followed by a gray Volkswagen Golf..
The book didn't progress the fastest at first, and Hannah's character got on my nerves a bit, but it was still interesting. Somewhere in the middle, it turned into a roller coaster of emotions, constant red herrings, lies and more lies and so on.
The suspense was definitely kept until the end. When for a moment it seemed that everything was clear, another curve-ball was thrown at you. And then a next one. And another one..
Why am I giving this new thriller from Kathryn Croft all the stars? Here are five reasons:
🌟 My GR friend 'theliteraleprechaun' wrote a very eloquent and enthusiastic review for this book a few weeks ago. My interest was piqued and I went straight to NetGalley to get my own review copy.
🌟 There were several characters that had my spidey senses tingling. It was a delicious read as I waited with bated breath to find out who did what.
🌟 Ivy and Poppy are the cutest five-year-old supporting characters. Their friendship is going to be for life after what they have endured together.
🌟 The mystery of what really happened in Room 12 is thoroughly explained, but not in a throwaway epilogue. Loved the pacing in this one!
🌟 The power of forgiveness is on display in profound and healing ways. Hannah is no superwoman, but she is so relatable.
Now I want to read more from Kathryn Croft. Definitely comparable to Daniel Hurst in the best of ways.
A big thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a DRC in exchange for an honest review.
Secrets and lies are the name of the game in this gripping and twist filled thriller from Kathryn Croft! The Girl in Room 12 kept me on my toes and turning the pages. Who can be trusted?? That is the question. The only thing that is certain is that The Girl in Room 12 is dead!
The local news has reported that a woman named Alice was found dead in a room at the River Walk Hotel. The same hotel that makes the room key card that Hannah has found in her husband, Max's pocket. How did he get the card? Does he know this woman? He has been distant and testy lately, is he having an affair? Is he a killer? Is her mind jumping to all the wrong conclusions? Max denies knowing the woman, but Hannah knows that something isn't right and sets out to get some answers.
I enjoyed the mystery of this book and the well thought out plot. Croft created an interesting group of characters who had distinct personalities and relationships with Hannah and/or Max. I wondered throughout who could be trusted and who was telling the truth. There are several characters who had me wondering if they were responsible for Alice's death. I did my best to figure out whodunit. At times I thought it could be various people. Who amongst them would want Alice dead and why? Poor Hannah went through the ringer with feelings of doubt, grief, loss, anger, betrayal, anxiety, and acceptance.
As the book progressed, I enjoyed the mounting sense of tension and danger that came into play. Was Hannah getting herself into danger? Would she learn the truth? I had to know! I found this to be a gripping and hard to put down book.
Well written, well thought out, entertaining, gripping and tense!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for gifting me a digital ARC of the latest thriller by Kathryn Croft - 4 stars!
Hannah knows something is wrong with her husband Max, and it's not just work issues like he says. He's suddenly working late, being short with their daughter, Poppy. Then she finds a hotel key card in his pocket - the same hotel where a young girl was just found murdered. Desperate to keep her family intact but needing to know the truth, Hannah starts doing some investigating on her own, but that involves her keeping secrets from those around her.
Another tense thriller from Croft - you can feel Hannah's angst at trying to do the right thing without blowing up her family. There's a big cast of characters here and you won't know who you can trust - which will keep you turning the pages until it all wraps up. Great read!
Hannah and Max Chambers and their daughter, Poppy, 5, live in a nice house. Max works hard at his very stressful job as a financial analyst which makes him very moody and even short with Poppy. Hannah owns Whispering Pages Bookshop.
Hannah sees on the news that the body of a woman named Alice Hughes has been found at the River Walk Hotel, a short distance from their home. When Max finally returns home late, he is preoccupied and tetchy. Hannah cannot figure out if it’s something other than his workload that’s bothering him. But when she finds a room key card in Max’s jacket pocket for the River Walk Hotel she can’t help but wonder if he’s been having an affair and maybe killed Alice.
Hannah and her close friend, Sarah, share help with their girls as Sarah has a daughter named Ivy, 5. The girls are great friends. Sarah is single and works long hours as a nurse.
A few days later, Max is found severely injured after being attacked and left in an alley. Now, Hannah has to wonder what happened to him and if he is guilty.
Thus begins a twisty and scary story that takes all kinds of turns making the reader wonder who the killer is and why. I really enjoyed this ride and it kept me glued to my seat reading. Prepare for a good book because this one is it! Enjoy!
Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Omg what a book! This delivers on everything you'd want in a thriller. I was kept hooked the whole time and couldn't put it down for needing to see what happens next. It's all full steam ahead with so so many twists and turns thrown in. An absolute must for thriller fans
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and Kathryn Croft for the advanced review copy. I just finished 'The Girl in Room 12', and it was a solid 4 star review. The story was alright, but there were times I thought the main character should've just gone to the police instead of doing what they did. I was basically screaming 'CALL THE COPS' for the entire book. The twists were okay and kept me mostly interested, but they were predictable.
I do recommend this book to thriller lovers, as there are sooo many twists (almost too many). Check it out. Coming out today!
. I will start off first by saying that the cover of this book is stunning. Thank you so much Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this advanced reader copy. The title alone draws readers in, paired with the description it becomes a must-read book. This is my first time reading a Kathryn Croft book and it definitely won’t be my last. When I look for thrillers to read, I look for the key word's addictive and unputdownable. If I see those two words, that tells me that I need to read it.
This is a book where the author doesn’t give too much away at once. This is definitely an along for the ride book. You are along the journey with Hannah trying to find out how her husband is connected to Alice. Max has been acting strange lately and Poppy and Hannah are picking up on it. Is he acting weird because of his high stress job or is there something fishy going on. Poppy is such a sweet and innocent 5-year-old with a best friend named Ivy. I have really fallen in love with Poppy and Ivy’s relationship as I grew to love these characters so much.
I have been unable to put this book down until I finished it and even now it’s all that I can think about. This book will live rent free in my head. The twists and turns of this book have you sitting at the edge of your seat. You know something is always coming but you never know what’s going to happen until it's too late. I really feel for Hannah as she uncovers the truth of what her husband has been doing behind her back. I am so impressed with this book. It was not what I was expecting in the best way possible. This book is easily 5 stars for me!
Thanks to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the book #TheGirlInRoom12 by #KathrynCroft. This book was packed with secrets, abuse, cheating and murder all ending with a twisty plot ending. I would recommend this book.
Hannah hears that a woman has been murdered at a nearby hotel. She then finds a key card from the hotel in her husband Max's pocket. Max has been acting different for a while and Hannah has felt that things aren't right in their relationship. Hannah must find out if Max knew the woman at the hotel and also if he is guilty of murder.
Firstly, thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advance ebook. This book is definitely a page turner and I kept wanting to pick it up to find out what happened next. I really enjoyed Kathryn Croft's writing style and the first 75% of the book was very strong. The story kept me guessing and I didn't find it predictable at all. Unfortunately the last 25% of the book was too unbelievable for my liking. I enjoy twists and turns in a book but I felt there were too many unbelievable twists in the end.
However, I still really enjoyed this book and it was a very quick read. I will definitely be reading more from Kathryn Croft in future.
This book was amazing! I absolutely loved it from start to finish! The storyline was gripping and kept me wanting to read one more chapter at bedtime. The characters were great and Kathryn Croft's style of writing was fantastic. I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kathryn Croft for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This book was a big miss for me and I considered DNFing it multiple times. Character development during the opening chapters was poor and i didn’t find myself buying into who the characters were supposed to be. The story ended up with characters that just were not likeable doing stupid/horrible things. Pacing seemed to be all over the place. Twists just for the sake of twists without any real function.
I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them but this one wasn’t for me!
My mind was all over the place whole I tried to sort and sift through the story.
I thought Hannah was too trusting of a complete stranger and should have exercised more caught in.
Matt was a huge weasel and I wasn’t sorry for what happened to him.
I suspected someone very close to Hannah was responsible for some of the events.
It’s a good story full of unexpected twists and turns that make it a real page turner.
Thanks to NetGalley and Book Outure for the ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of The Girl in Room 12 by Kathryn Croft. This book started out strong and kept me reading. It lost some of my enthusiasm in the middle for a bit and then again at the end. The end had too much swirling around and tried to add in many new details. It became a mass confessional and it just seemed to be a whole new story. It was entertaining and I would still recommend it to others. I gave it a 4 star rating.
I was hooked from the beginning... I read this book in 3 days... It was suspenseful, kept me on the toes kept wondering what was going to happen next.. I've read alot of book this is in my top 5.. It was like watching a movie.. The book was awesome. The writer was absolutely insanely great...
The Girl in Room 12 by Kathryn Croft is an intriguing and intense psychological thriller
From start to finish I was hooked I couldn’t read it fast enough to find out what the heck was going on. This book is so incredibly twisty I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It is a story full of murder, suspense and shocking revelations!
Croft never fails to disappoint once again she delivers another well crafted novel where she builds up the suspense to a fantastic ending…. The Girl in Room 12 is utterly brilliant.
Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me early access to this book.
This is the type of thriller that gets you turning pages and before you know it it’s hours later. With mysteries and thrillers a large perk to me is being fast-paced and unputdownable, and this book brought just that and more!
I enjoyed the dynamic relationships in this novel entangled in the riveting “whodunit” plot line. It kept me guessing all the way the way through, and when I thought I knew, I didn’t!
Definitely a 4⭐️ read for me, and I’ll be keeping Kathryn Croft books on my radar from now on!
Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Kathryn Croft for the ARC opportunity.
This book started off great—I was hooked right away—but then became very slow and was honestly a slog through the middle. But let’s talk about the ending, shall we? This person did it! No wait, just kidding, this person did! Oh and wait, how about adding this shocker in for good measure?! What in the world!
I feel like this story could have been great, but there was a bit (a lot) at the end that I just couldn’t look past.
The Girl in Room 12 was an interesting read. It was full of twists and turns which kept me reading and had me on the edge of my seat throughout. It was a one sitting read for me as I just couldn't put it down.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookoture for an ARC version of this book in exchange with my honest review. This book officially publishes on 1/26/24!
This book was ok but wholly fell flat for me. There were glimmers throughout of a good premise; however, I did not find the ending to be cohesive with the rest of the book. Told from 1 POV, I also found it difficult to relate or in some scenes even like, the main character. The main tropes here are crime, family drama, and secrets.
