Hannah is married to Max and their parents to little Poppy until recently they’ve head a story book marriage but it seems lately Max is stressed out distracted and not being the best husband. Soon She finds out a woman name Alice has died at a hotel in room 12 close to their home and then Hannah finds the key card to that room in maxes suit pocket.. she soon meets a man named Tyler who was friends with Alice and he tells Hannah all kind of things that Max told Alice most importantly being that Max wanted her to be murdered. Soon after that Max gets robbed and beat up and Hannah believes it has something to do with Alice or at least that whole situation. It doesn’t help that someone in a silver car is following Hannah and Tyler. Hannah has a best friend named Sarah who has a daughter name Ivy
Until recently Sarah has been a single mother and so is a big proponent for Hannah forgiving max of his infidelity and keeping her marriage together. If this were all the problems Hannah had in her life you would think that would be enough but no there’s much more and although I won’t go into it here just know this was the book that never ends. Because as soon as Hannah figures out one issue there’s an additional situation that I forgot about but the author did not and so we get the conclusion to that as well but wait that’s not it either… This is one twisty piece of work and I couldn’t decide if I loved or hated it so I gave it three stars it definitely keeps your attention but towards the 85% mark your like is it this book over yet? As far as recommending the book I totally do because the whole story with Max and Hannah and possibly Alice who is very intriguing and had it ended early on this could’ve been a five star read so definitely read it because I absolutely recommend it but just know it tends to go on and on. And who knows you may be one who loves that as many do. I want to thank Bookoucher a AnNet Galley for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
Hannah is becoming increasingly concerned about her husband Max, she knows he's under stress from his job but he's becoming more distant of late, coming home very late at night, snapping at their daughter Poppy and he won't talk to Hannah about what's wrong, when she sees on the news that a young girl has been found murdered in a local hotel, she's certain she recognises her, later that night she picks up Max's discarded suit in the bedroom and, whilst checking for any loose change in the pocket, she finds a hotel key card and written on it are the words The River Walk Hotel. Why would her husband be staying at a hotel just round the corner from where they live, is he having an affair or has he just done something much worse?
The Girl in Room 12 is Croft's latest thriller and it's another edge of your seat read which pulled me straight in from the first page and had me racing through it in a matter of hours. The story is told from Hannah's perspective and I really felt for her with the dilemma she was faced with, not only did she suspect her husband of cheating on her but also of murder, how would she explain that to their five year old who adores her daddy? This story has some very unlikeable characters, in particular Cole, Hannah's assistant at her bookshop, Whispering Pages (what a cool name for a bookshop!), there was something about him that I just did not like. This is another fast paced and well written tale from this author with some great twists along the way, I loved it!
I'd like to thank Bookouture and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.
The Girl in Room 12 is an intriguing and intense psychological thriller that moves along with a twisty plot. Actually, I think the story is more of a family drama psychological read. Because the family drama is off the chart in this story!
The story takes you on a crazy ride that will have you shaking your head more than a few times.
With that said, this was an interesting murder, suspense mystery full of family drama. If you like all of that, this is a book you should pick up and read!
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
For me this story was kinda hard to follow with all the twists it took. It was a very good thriller though because for the twists. I never saw the ending coming; did not as expect it!
This was a very good and solid 4 star read!
I simply loved how the story flow worked well! Despite thinking to myself "this woman should just go to the police" a few times during the course of the book, that does not take away from the twists and turns the author gives us!
I totally recommend this if you like a good thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end!
LOVED how everything fell into place, although I have to admit that I had a gut feeling from the start about that certain someone (if you know, you know)!
I received this as an Arc through NetGalley.
This was a gripping suspense filled thriller. A young woman was murdered in a hotel room, and as connections to the murder start to unfold it seems the killer is closer than anticipated. This was an enjoyable read. I did have my suspicions throughout reading who may have done it, but all the aspects leading up to solving the murder was full of unexpected twists. If you love murder mystery/ thriller this is definitely a book to add to your TBR.
Talk about twists and turns - this one keeps cranking them out and ramping them up! What appears to be a single issue domestic psychological thriller turns into a multi-dimensional tale of love, hate, betrayal and gaslighting. Fabulous read!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
Kathryn Croft’s “The Girl in Room 12” is a very good psychological thriller that took me on a journey of suspicion, suspense and betrayal. Hannah is married to Max and have a daughter Poppy. Their marriage is not perfect and Hannah regularly feels she suffers from Max’s mood swings and snappiness. When a local woman is murdered in an hotel, Hannah’s imagination and suspicions are thrown into overdrive when she finds a key card for the hotel in Max’s pocket. She starts to suspect he may have something to hide and even be responsible for this woman’s murder. Her suspicions escalate and she starts to look closer at the circumstances surrounding the dead woman and her husband.
I really enjoyed this novel and the tension skilfully added by the author making if very difficult to stop reading. Hannah starts to notice unsettling changes in Max’s behaviour and his mood swings are getting even worse. His relationship with daughter Poppy becomes strained and all this leads Hannah to believe her husband is guilty of something but is it been unfaithful or murder.
The characters are well described and easy to imagine, their flaws and vulnerabilities make the story more interesting and addictive.
This is well plotted thriller that held my interest throughout, full of suspicion, intrigue and emotion.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve really struggled to enjoy reading over the last year. For every book that gets my mojo back, the next one always lets me down. When I was approved for this book, I knew this author would provide just what I needed, and I was right.
The book captured my interest from the first page, it flowed well with no flipping back and forth, included a decent number of characters without information overload, and had twists and turns aplenty.
My only slight criticism was, there were so many twists and turns, I was exhausted when I finished the book!
Once I started reading this book I could not put it down. I just had to keep turning the pages to find out how it would all unfold. I love me a thriller with lots of twists and turns and this one did not disappoint. Practically every character is suspicious and no one can be trusted. At times I even felt like I couldn't trust the protagonist. That's how well the plot was engineered.
The ending did feel a little unbelievable and convenient but it really didn't bother me much, after all this is fiction. I was surprised and shocked and that's all I ask for. Highly recommended.
THE GIRL IN ROOM 12 is another great book from expert thriller writer, Kathryn Croft. I was immediately drawn to the character of Hannah and rooting for her to find out the truth about her husband, Max. There are plenty of secrets to be revealed here and clearly not everyone can be trusted. This one kept me up late because I was too engrossed in the mystery to sleep! The ending was just perfect and I would recommend this book to all thriller/mystery fans.
Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my gifted ARC.

The Girl in Room 12 by Kathryn Croft is a highly recommended mystery full of secrets, tension, and deception.
While their daughter Poppy is happily chatting about her day, Hannah's husband Max is late, again. Max has been staying out late, distracted, and unnaturally short-tempered lately and Hannah wonders what is instigating this change in personality. After Max returns home Hannah picks up the suit coat he left crumpled on the floor. When checking the pockets she finds a key card to a room at the River Walk Hotel, where the news just reported a young woman was found murdered. Was Max having an affair with her and is he responsible for the murder?
The narrative is a twisty tale as more information is uncovered and Hannah's personal investigation takes different directions. The Girl in Room 12 is compelling throughout. Not all of Hannah's actions are believable but the mystery, tension, secrets, deception and betrayals are nonstop right to the end. It's also clear that not all the characters are reliable or trustworthy and what is really happening is not revealed until the end.
The writing is very good. Croft establishes her characters, especially that of Hannah, and then creates a complex, layered plot to hold your attention. There is plenty of misdirection thrown into the mix to try and distract you from following clues. The story could have been tightened up a little, however, as there is a bit of a slowdown halfway through the novel. Keep reading though because the ending is jam-packed with shocking surprises and twists.
Thanks to Bookouture for providing me with an advance reader's copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary and expresses my honest opinion. The review will be published on Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
Hannah lives in Fulham & owns & runs a bookshop. She adores her five year old daughter Poppy but just lately her marriage to Max has become a bit rocky. He seems to work all the time & he is becoming more irritable & snappy especially to Poppy. One evening as she make tea there is a report on the News about a young woman found dead in a hotel within walking distance of their house. This really seems to stick in her mind. As she collects her husband's suit for cleaning she finds a key card for the same hotel- what does this mean? Before long Hannah's world revolves around the dead girl & trying to work out how Max is involved- was it an affair, or is it something far more awful.
I read this book through to the end, although at times I wondered why. I found Hannah totally crazy! Mind you, she was surrounded by some pretty weird characters. As for the ending- least said the better! Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher & for letting me read & review this book.
A woman has been found dead at a hotel near your house. Things begin to spiral out of control when you find a key card to that same hotel in your husband’s pocket.
This was such an engaging and mystery filled thriller. There are so many pieces to the puzzle and I felt like I couldn’t trust anyone. I was questioning so many things as I was reading along and even found myself not trusting the narrator. Secrets are revealed a little at a time which kept me wanting more and desperate for answers. Nothing is as it seems and I couldn’t never have guessed how everything would unfold. You get lots of twists and shocking revelations too!
Thank you so much Bookouture and NetGalley for the gifted copy!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoulture for the ARC! This book is described as a “gripping thriller” and it was just that. Wow. Had me on the edge of my seat.
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Girl In Room 12’ written by Kathryn Croft in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
A woman has been found dead in a hotel room at the River Walk Hotel, close to where Hannah, her husband Max and five-year-old daughter Poppy live in Putney. As Hannah goes through Max’s suit pockets prior to having it dry-cleaned, she finds a key card for a room at the same hotel.
‘The Girl In Room 12’ is a gripping psychological thriller that tells of Hannah and how unexplained events cause her to mistrust her husband Max. It’s been well-written with a gripping storyline and a number of well-described characters that have kept me involved from page one. Throughout the story there’s been suspense, intrigue, and such an abundance of unexpected twists and turns that it’s been hard to know who to believe. My theories have been seriously put to the test as I’ve had to continually change my mind as to which of the characters is being honest and which one wants to get away with murder. This has been an enjoyable thriller that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed and am happy to recommend.
I don’t appear to be the target market for this book. I love mystery-thrillers and people with secrets but the emphasis on family and marital challenges was just not interesting for me.
A woman becomes suspicious of her husband, thinking he is involved in the murder of a woman. She doesn’t know if it’s just an affair or if he is actual responsible.
I think it took too long to build the suspense here. I also just didn’t connect with the characters.
The Girl in Room 12 is a new suspense novel written by Kathryn Croft, an author I found via NetGalley last year. A wife worries that her husband is hiding something, then she discovers a hotel key card in his pocket... it happens to belong to a woman who was murdered a few days earlier. Soon after, the husband is attacked and put into the hospital. He's angry, arrogant, and difficult. What's a wife to do? She goes on a mission to discover the truth, involving her best friend and an employee at her bookstore. Plus, a friend of the victim's enters the wife's orbit, and things take a very confusing turn. For the most part, I enjoyed this book... trying to unravel the clues and guess what was going on. I figured most of the plot out, as it could've only gone 2 or 3 ways. But there was an extra surprise which was well placed but not super plausible. It made for good drama but ultimately felt too contrived. I'm not a fan of the killer changing multiple times in the last few chapters, as it messes a reader's ability to process clues quickly and make an educated guess. Entertaining but also frustrating. That said, I like the author's writing style and character building, so I'll continue to read more from her.
