This book is the definition of a page turner, one-session read. This story had me hooked, and I completed the thriller in one night.
The Girl In Room 12 is filled with twists and turns, and although I had suspicions early on at ‘whodunnit’ - Kathryn Croft did a phenomenal job maintaining the suspense and twists throughout the book. Just when you think you know the jig is up, Croft delivers another curveball.
If you love thrillers that aren’t predictable and keeps you on your toes - The Girl in Room 12 will deliver.

Hannah’s husband Max has been short with her and her daughter recently and she thinks it is the result of work stress, but then a woman is murdered at a hotel near their house and when she finds a key card from that hotel in Max’s pocket she knows she needs to find out the truth.
This was a really good book. I enjoyed the twists and turns and trying to figure out who was guilty of what. Ultimately, I none of my guesses matched what actually happened and I love being surprised. There was a lot going on, which kept me guessing, but this was a quick read that I enjoyed. I look forward to this author’s next novel.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the chance to read the ARC of this great book. It's a thrilling story with so many twists and turns. Just when you think you know who the guilty one is -- think again. This story starts with a murder, betrayal and lies too numerous to count. And caught in the center are two 5-year-old girls and two mothers who will do anything to keep their child safe. I couldn't put it down and really loved how seamlessly the story flowed. I'd gladly recommend this engrossing book.
Overall I enjoyed the story, I found I kept going back to this book to see where it went next. I was annoyed by the characters for a bit, but I think that is my reaction when couples spend so much time at odds and don't actually talk to each other (hello - communication is key people!), but this is what keeps the book going. The story kept me guessing, I thought I had figured it out earlier on in the book only to be surprised by the turns the story kept taking.
Thank you for the advanced copy - looking forward to more Kathryn Croft books in the future.
Thank you to Net Galley and Bookouture for this advanced copy of The Girl in Room 12 by Kathryn Croft to be published January 26, 2024.
Hannah is upset after hearing a young woman has been killed at the River Walk Hotel, a few short minutes from her house.
While tidying up their bedroom she comes across her husband, Max’s wrinkled suit and goes through the pockets before hanging it in the closet. That’s when she finds something very disturbing – a key to one of the rooms at the River Walk Hotel.
Could her husband really be a killer? Why was he at the hotel? Should she call the police or do whatever she can to protect her family?
I will admit this book dragged a little in the beginning, but once I got into it – it grabbed me and didn’t let go. I don’t know that I’ve ever read a book with so many characters that kept secrets! Some of them were a little bit of a surprise and some were shocking!
I highly recommend The Girl in Room 12 – I’m definitely going to check out some more of Kathryn Croft’s books!

I have previously read a few books by Kathryn Croft, and was quite excited to get to read The Girl in Room 12. The book started off really, really strong, but somehow, the pacing started slowing down quite a bit. Fell a bit flat in the end. I really hoped I could've given a higher rating, but alas!
This was my first book of this author, and I absolutely adored it. It was such an amazing experience, a roller-coaster of twists in such a suspenseful book. There were so many shocking surprises through the story I could not predicted the way it was going to end which was great since I really like a good thriller.
We follow Hannah and Max marriage that has been strained for months and there’s a woman found dead in the nearby hotel and Hannah finds a key for the same hotel room in Max’s pocket. It was so fast paced and intense it was brilliant. The twists and the revelations that we got for every direction made it such a tense reading. One moment I was thinking Max did it and the next was like Hannah did it? I couldn’t figure it out.
I highly recommend it to everyone that as me, enjoy a good psychological thriller that makes you doubt your own shadow and not see the ending. It was a page-turner I could not stop reading it and finished in the same day I started it.I’m now a fan of the author and I’m keeping a close eye in the next books and I’m reading her previous ones.
Thank you, Bookouture & NetGalley, for approving me to read this arc and write this review.
Absolutely loved this book!! Kathryn Croft is a master at creating stories that suck you in and then she delivers the most epic twists. The Girl In Room 12, is definitely a book you want to add to your list.
I did not see the twists coming and I'm still not sure of the ending! My mind is blown. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!! So glad I got to read this book. Hits shelves on Jan 26th, 2024!
I love Kathryn Croft. Her books are always such page-turners for me. Even this one! I mean I really couldn't put it down. BUT this book was bonkers. I'm torn because I really did fly through it and I enjoyed every minute of it, but it was so ridiculous that I don't know what to make of it. I feel like if I recommended this to my sister she would hate it and say, "there is no way this would happen!" and I would be sitting there going "of course not, but wasn't it fun?" So that's my review. If you want to be entertained, go read this.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC!
A twisty turny thrill ride of a read. This one keeps you guessing until the very last page. Full of shocking surprises with every new chapter. Wonderfully written. Dark and gritty and downright scary at times. This one will keep you turning pages to find out what is really going on.
I have to admit I was not a huge fan of some of the main characters behaviour and it was implausible to me at times which took away from the story.
However overall it was a great read

This blurb got my attention ~
My husband was the last person to see the girl in room 12. But did he kill her?
Hannah Chambers and her husband live in the small village of Putney, South West London. They have a five year old little girl, Poppy. Hannah is the owner of an independent bookshop “Whispering Pages”. Max is a financial analyst for a global tech company.
However-Hannah has concerns as Max is not the same –
~ He has been short with Poppy, as well as always being at work and coming home later than usual.
He has worked in high-stress jobs since they met but something is different now!
One evening after dinner, Hannah is scrolling her phone and sees a news item from the local Putney community page regarding a young woman’s body found at the River Walk Hotel. She clicks for more details and sees a photo of the young woman; Alice Hughes, a personal trainer. As Hannah views the photo she finds something familiar but not sure where she may have seen Alice.
Later that evening, Max is on the phone as Hannah is getting ready for bed. She sees his suit on the bed and decides she’ll take it to the cleaners as she is clearing his pockets, she find a key card with an embossed logo of the River Walk Hotel!
Now the story gets REALLY interesting.
I always enjoy the challenge of a psychological thriller
I know to expect twists and turns!
I know to be suspicious of everyone!
I know there will be secrets!
I know that more than likely the most obvious person didn’t do it!
Okay I did all four! I sort of knew whodunit ~ after all I suspect everyone. Did I guess what was going on? Nope!!!
Near the end of this story I found my mind going in circles trying to figure things out!
I was looking forward to reading the ‘author’s note’ as I was so curious the motivation for this story..
In , Kathryn Croft]’s - ”A Letter from Kathryn’
She tells that she hope’s she is still managing to create suspense with shocks and twists.
She loved writing this story –states it took her in directions she hadn’t foreseen and does love then that happens.
I thought Aww now I know why it seemed there were so many “What Ifs?
This truly was a wild ride - similar to a trip down San Francisco’s Lombard Street with the 8 hairpin turns!
I read Ms. Croft’s "The Suspect" at first I thought it was okay and then Wow! I ended up really liking it.
So went into this with somewhat the same anticipation.

I read this in one sitting, I couldn't put it down. It was absolutely banging, kept me guessing and left me wanting more
Thank you to Bookouture for this ARC. Hannah and Max’s marriage has been strained for months when a woman is found dead in a nearby hotel and Hannah finds a room key for that same hotel in Max’s pocket. As she searches for answers more and more pieces surface that point to her husband having an affair with the dead woman. The people around her are telling her different things and she’s not sure who she can trust to protect her daughter and herself or if she can trust her own instincts. I read this in 2 sittings only because I had to go to work! Fast and intense read that will send you down multiple rabbit holes as you try to solve this along with Hannah!

When Hannah finds a keycard to a local hotel in her husbands pocket, she specks the worst. As the story unfolds she f realizes the truth may be every worst than she could have imagined and no one is who they seem.
Highly recommended, great, easy read!
* I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from NetGalley and Bookouture in exchange for my honest review
Hannah hears the news of a local woman getting murdered in a hotel room and something doesn’t quite sit right with her, why does she feel some sort of connection?
Then she finds out key card for the hotel where the girl was murdered in her husbands pocket, after asking Max if he had ever stayed in the hotel before he denies it. What’s going on? Why has her husband got this card, after months of their relationship being strained, what is he hiding?
This book was brilliant, was a first of Kathryn’s that I’ve read and I’m hooked, can’t wait to read more! A real page turner that keeps you guessing throughout, suspenseful that really grips you.
An absolute STUNNER of a thriller! Hannah finds a hotel key card in her husband’s pocket, just after a young woman has been murdered in that same hotel.
And from that point on, there are red herrings, twists and shocking revelations coming from all directions - I was absolutely gripped!
Nobody can be trusted and everyone has their own agenda, which the dead girl somehow fits within. The characters were brilliant and the plot is spot on!
A fabulous read!
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Kathryn Croft and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Loved this thriller of a read. It follows a woman concerned her husband is lying to her and when she finds a link to a murdered woman things take a dark and dangerous turn for her and she is running out of time to get to the truth before things get worse. It’s a great read with a twist I did not see coming.
This book had me speechless! This will always be a book for me to remember! I loved how it was super fast-paced from the first page and I could not put it down. I can honestly say I finished it in one sitting. I was obsessed! It’s thrilling and captivating, and that final twist was shocking! I love books where you don’t know who to trust. The most perfect thriller book I have read in a loooooong time.
