Enjoyed this book, first I've read from the author. A book built around lies and deceit and a great way to lean into a typical 'worst nightmare' scenario of discovering a potential affair, but, add in that the affair may have been with a recently deceased woman and you have a story you can't put down!
Hannah Chambers, owner of Whispering Pages bookshop, lives a quiet life in South West London with her financial analyst husband Max and 5 year old daughter Poppy. Things have been a little off lately with her husband and she hoping it’s just the added stress from work. Unnerved by the local news post of a young woman’s body found that morning at the River Walk hotel. Hannah can’t shake why the girl looks so familiar, and how disturbing it is that it happened right down the street from her. She goes about clearing her husband’s pockets before taking his suit to the cleaner, her world crashes when she pulls out a key card embossed with River Walk hotel. Now what? Confront her husband? What if he is a killer? Go to the police? Can she turn her daughter’s father in without knowing for sure?
The Girl in Room 12 was an interesting mystery. I will say that there were several times that I was frustrated at the choice’s the characters made. There were several twists as well, maybe too many. I did enjoy reading the story, and would recommend
Thank you Bookouture for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley.
A local girl has been murdered in a hotel near Hannah and Max’s house. Max’s behavior seems off. What’s going on with him? Hannah finds a hotel key in his pocket. Why does Max have this key? Hannah’s determined to figure out why Max had this hotel key and what happened to Alice. We meet Taylor who was good friends with Alice. Taylor and Hannah end up working together to figure out what happened to Alice. But then we learn, Taylor isn’t who he says he is. I was not expecting to find out what Sarah had done. I truly did not see that coming! I did find Cole to be a little creepy but I was not expecting him to do what he did.
I really liked this book. I was honestly hooked right away and spent the whole day reading it. I couldn’t put it down. I was looking forward to reading each page. There was so much suspense. I didn’t know who to trust or what was going to happen. I really enjoyed Hannah’s character and how much she cared and thought about poppy. She just wanted the best for her. This book really kept me on my toes. You think it’s one person who killed Alice but then it’s another person!
I really enjoy Kathryn’s book. They are very addictive. I would definitely recommend her books to anyone who loves psychological thrillers!
Thank you NetGalley, Kathryn and Bookouture for the ARC!
Kathryn Croft delivers yet again! A great go-to author that I always enjoy. I love her writing style. The story moves at a fast clip and does not bog down in too many details. This was packed with tension and filled with secrets and lies. And no, I did not guess the ending or any of the great reveals.
Thank you NetGalley, Kathryn Croft and the fabulous Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book.
A woman - personal trainer Alice Hughes - is found murdered in a hotel room. What is her connection to Hannah's husband Max, and why is he suddenly acting so strangely? Can she trust him? Who can she trust?
This was an okay read with a lot going on, mainly involving awful and/or stupid people doing awful and/or stupid things. Twists abound, and there are rather a lot of slightly-too-convenient methods of revelation (an accidental audio recording! An unexpected find under the sofa cushions!).
It was enjoyable enough, but probably not one that will stick in my memory.
Really good! I found myself reading late into the night because I couldn’t put it down. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC.
I just finished this book, and I've gotta say, it's up there with the best ones I've read lately. Seriously, I was hooked right from the start – couldn't even stick to my usual morning reading routine. I had my Kindle with me everywhere, stealing moments whenever I could!
Let me fill you in on the main character, Hannah. She's so relatable, you can't help but feel her emotions. And oh, the twists in this thing! Just when you think you've got it all figured out, bam! Curveballs left and right. Kept me guessing the whole time.
Believe it or not, it's my first time diving into Kathryn Croft's work, but it's safe to say it won't be the last. Consider me a fan now.
Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for this ARC. WOW, where do I even begin with this book!!
I literally couldn’t put this book down. I read it from start to finish within 2 days there was so much suspense; it was insane and on more than one occasion I found myself gasping out loud at the many twists and turns each one was so unexpected and I definitely didn't seem the coming! I loved all the characters my favourite one was Taylor as I would always wonder what would happen next and when the next curveball would be thrown in for this character.
An outstanding book and one of the best books I’ve read all year hats off to Kathryn Croft!! I urge everyone to read this book as I’m still thinking about it since I’ve read it! 10/10 unbelievable book that deserves so much recognition!
This was a pretty good story, but it is VERY slow paced. The first two thirds was a bit like wading through treacle, but it did pick up from that point.
I liked the snippets at the beginning of some chapters from discussion forums and news articles, it broke up the prose a bit and added an extra dimension, which was welcome. I also liked the ending, the mystery was wrapped up nicely.
There is a good story here if you can be bothered to stick with it. I would say that I'm pleased I read it, but I don't think that it will prove to be particularly memorable for me.
I was up late into the night reading this dark, disturbing psychological thriller. Most of the murder mystery drama is told from Hannah's viewpoint. Kathryn Croft just gets better and better. She is able to contrast ordinary everyday family life with something evil and sinister.
I found it intensely intriguing and gripping with a jaw dropping conclusion.
Highly recommended.
The Girl in Room 12 has been one of my favorite reads of this year! If it wasn’t for daily responsibilities I would have finished this one in a sitting! I couldn’t put it down at bedtime. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and I loved the suspense and the ending of this one! It was definitely unexpected! I love a book with a strong main character and friendships that are important and lasting. I’ll definitely be recommending to everyone I know.
I loved this one so much I’ve already downloaded The Girl With No Past also written by Kathryn Croft.
OH MY GOD!!! This book is outstanding! I take mu hat off to this author! They clearly know how to write such a bestseller!
From the minute I picked this book up I struggled to pull myself away from it and put it down. I was hooked! There was SO many twists and turns. Everyone of them was unexpected and I definitely didn't seem the coming!
The characters where amazing!
Honestly my heart was pounding throughout!
Absolutely FANTASTIC!!!!!
Hannah can’t understand why max has suddenly became distant towards her. They have a beautiful 5 year old daughter, a lovely home and don’t struggle for money. Around the corner Alice is murdered in an hotel room. With the murder been too close to home and the police coming up with no leads, Hannah starts to investigate but is she prepared for what she’s going to find out? Shocking secrets and about to unravel and Hannah will do anything to find out the truth. What has her husband got to hide? Who can she trust?
Absolutely loved this book! This is going to be a huge hit! I loved how it was super fast paced from the first page. I stayed up late to finish this! I was obsessed! It’s thrilling, captivating and you just can’t wait to read more and that final twist was shocking!
I love books where you don’t know who to trust and this just hit that spot! Loved loved loved! One of the easiest 5 ⭐️! Thank you so much for allowing me to read this early!
Once again this author has written a fantastic gripping thriller. I could not get enough was up most of the night reading had to know how it was going to end and wow what an ending it was. The characters were very well written and the twists and turns there was so many it had me gasping out loud at parts and some of the red herrings were awesome. Definitely one of my favourites thrillers that I have read this year will be recommending this to everyone. Excellent! Thanks to netgallery and the publisher for my advanced copy.
This book… what can I say? I seriously couldn’t get enough! Binged it in a day and I have zero regrets! If you are a fan of Freida McFadden this this is the kinda book you need in your life! I would rate this anywhere between a 4-4.5 star out of 5!
I really enjoyed this book, it kept me hooked and I finished it very quickly. I am a fan of Kathryn Croft's books and they all manage to excited and surprise me.
Another stonker of a read from Kathryn Croft which i read in two sittings. Who do you believe or trust? Its not always obvious. Well written characters which i could really visualise and a really absorbing storyline which just got better and better. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Wow, this was a brilliant thriller, I absolutely loved it! Full of secrets, shocks, twists and turns. Recommended!
Wow - what a brilliant book. Twists and turns all the way through out. I read this in a day - gripping edge of the seat thriller. Highly recommended.
What a talented author.
I eventually enjoyed this book but it was very slow to get started despite the book opening with a murder.
Hannah's noticed her husband Max's behaviour has changed but isn't sure why. It seems a bit extreme however to leap to the conclusion he murdered someone just because she found a hotel keycard from the same place [a murder took place] in his pocket. She's had no reason to doubt Max or be suspicious of him in the past, yet she (seemingly suddenly assumes he's a murderer and lying about everything.
Of course we learn she has reasons to be suspicious but her reactions seem dire. (Reference is made to an event in the past and I expected more to come of it but it doesn't).
Coincidentally later we learn Max has made equally rash assumptions about his wife. In the midst of this we're introduced to Hannah's staff from her bookstore and her best friend. And then there's Taylor, the friend of the murder victim... who Hannah doesn't trust, but believes over her husband.
Despite all of this I was kinda sucked in and this is another twisty read from Croft. And after a few false starts and red herrings we finally get some answers - and more than we bargained for with a few crimes rolled into one. And though I didn't get lost in the quagmire, it did become a little convoluted. Thankfully however, justice won out.
