What a gift this book is! It is very rare to find such a raw, honest, and thorough collection of essays on migration. Hass is an incredibly experienced academic, who immerses himself in research and development globally.
This audiobook really is a great example of the vast about of research and speciality Hass has developed overtime. Spoken and explained in a thorough but detailed manner, yet still accessible to curious listeners/readers who haven’t a single clue about anything to do with migration, I recommend this book to essentially everyone.
Breaking down false narratives spread by modern governments, mostly in Europe and the Americas, as well as providing plenty of statistics, backed up facts and historical context and sources of common misconceptions, Hass doesn’t shy away from tackling some of the most spoken about topics in governments in this day. He does an incredible job, confidently explaining his positions and giving detailed outcomes of his research and studies on migration and immigration issues.
The only reason I have rated this audiobook is not because of any of the information provided, nor is it because I had any issue with the narration (which was great by the way). It’s because by the last 15-10% of the audiobook, it felt extremely extremely repetitive. I understand reiterating main points, which Hass definitely does plenty of times, but towards the end it got quite exhausting.
But that would never repel me from recommending this book to absolutely everyone. Please give it a go, no matter if you’ve read 1000s of books about migration, or none whatsoever. Whether you’re a migrant yourself, or someone who lives somewhere where you have barely any migration at all, we all have something to learn from this book, especially if you’re keen on keeping up on your education to stay aware of disproportionate media coverage, false/moral panics, and the spread of misinformation by governments and hate groups.
Got this for review on netgally.
I thought I knew some things about migration but turns out I knew next to nothing and had a few misconceptions about. Found it very informative and easy to listen to the audiobook. Think it's an great book to start learning mote about the topic. Very easy to follow and the narration was good as well.
Patterns of Migration
This was an interesting book.
I found it very in-depth on migration and politics.
Not the most riveting read, but really well-researched and gave a lot of interesting viewpoints.
Check it out if you are interested in the political history of populations.
