This author write good books but they don’t wow me. I have enjoyed her narrator(s) a lot so great job on the quality there. I will definitely be watching for new releases to hopefully find one that wows me a bit more in the future.
I’d best describe NO ONE CAN KNOW by Kate Alice Marshall as a slow-burning murder mystery mixed with some family drama and secrets. If you love to read about sisterhood and complex familial relationships, then this is just the book for you. Three sisters return to the house they grew up in fourteen years after their parents were murdered there. Sounds pretty gruesome, right? The case was never solved and the finger was even pointed at one of the sisters. Now the truth is about to come out, and my gosh is it ever complicated. I was really digging this one until it was time to wrap things up. Once again, the conclusion of a thriller has let me down. It was just too elaborate. There were WAY too many unnecessary details and it would’ve been much more satisfying (and less confusing) with a simpler ending. Other than that, it was still a twisty, suspenseful, and chilling whodunnit. I really enjoyed the author’s previous novel, WHAT LIES IN THE WOODS, and I just heard that she has a new one coming out in February called A KILLING COLD. I am 100% here for it. So because of the weak ending, I think 3.5/5 stars is fair for NO ONE CAN KNOW!
This story just didn't feel believable to me and read like a lot of other thrillers out there, it just didn't grab my attention like I wanted it to. I absolutely hated Emma's husband Nathan and it really bothered me how Emma was blamed for everything and how she was treated. The fact that all of this could have easily been avoided if secrets were revealed. I think a lot of people will love this book, but it just wasn't for me.
First of all, LOVED the narrator, as usual. This book was one that I truly enjoyed listening to, solely based on what the narrator sounded like. It is always a pleasure to listen to her books.
Now the actual book was fairly hit or miss, for me. I found the dynamics of the characters to be weird, and the plot to be too similar to other books that I have read, and fairly forgettable. I'm writing this a few days after finishing it, and I'm really having to look back to remember actually what had happened. There were no huge twists in it, besides a cheating scandal that didn't really have the impact that it should. The twists and turns from the murder mystery just didn't hit home for me, and I felt like the ending was too ambiguous to make the book complete. The characters were okay, but not super likeable. Overall, although I've liked books by the author in the past, this one wasn't my favorite.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Net Galley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The four Palmer sisters lost their parents to a gruesome murder fourteen years ago, and they left behind the house where the awful incident took place soon after. However, when Emma Palmer encounters financial strain, she’s forced to move back into their family home and confront the secrets that have been held for so long about that horrible night.
I thought I would love this one, but unfortunately I just couldn’t get into it. It may have been because there were too many loose ends and story lines with the four sisters, but I have a friend who buddy-read this one with me and she liked the unique story lines from each of the Palmers.
3/5 stars for me. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
This was an enjoyable listen and is one that I recommend. I look forward to more novels by this author.
3.5 stars
Family dysfunction and murder... the perfect combination! Emma, Daphney, and Juliette, teenage sisters growing up under the control of their wealthy and powerful father. Their mother, a passive observer, and almost accomplice does nothing to protect them from their father's violence. When both parents are murdered one evening, the police suspect Emma but aren't able to prove it. Fourteen years later, Emma and her husband Narhan have returned to the house to pack everything up and sell it all. The sisters have been estranged since the murders but hearing that Emma has returned, they find themselves also drawn back to the scene of the crime. This leads to secrets being uncovered to find out what really happened that night.
The haunting atmosphere and building suspense kept me locked into this mystery It had that dark, small town vibe that felt claustrophobic. There were many suspects, all with motive, which made it difficult to guess who the murderer was. However, with that said, the ending wasn't as impactful as I hoped for as the reveal didn't make sense to me logically. Being a very logical reader, I'm able to let some plot gaps go but sadly there were a number of them in this story, which decreaed it's authenticity. I also found the jumping around between sisters and timelines a bit discombobulating on the audio. A more methodical approach to the switch in perpectives and time would've made it easier to follow and less jarring. I appreciated the generous amount of foreshadowing and the writing style pulled me in.
The audio narrator was one of my favorites. I loved her animated performance and many voices. She brought me into the story as though I was watching a movie.
Overall, the audiobook was a definite win. And I think readers looking for a suspenseful mystery thriller will not be disappointed in this one.

When you get married, you expect that you know at least the the important highlights of your spouse's life. This is a story of worst case scenario. Imagine being in the dark and then find yourself in the middle of the culmination of a lifetime of secrets. This one definitely makes a person think.
This drug on and on and it wasn't really enjoyable. Seemed there was a lot going on but going no where for no reason.
Emma returns to uncover what really happened the night her parents were murdered. Only Emma and her sisters were at home when it happened, and they promised to stick together. Over time, this loyalty created distance between them. Now that Emma is back, old secrets start to come out. The story unfolds slowly, but the characters and their mysteries kept me hooked. With complicated sister dynamics and a gripping double murder, it’s a fantastic listen
My rating 3.5 stars - rounded up to 4 stars
The first half of this book was a bit slow for me. I almost put it down, but then the story picked up for the second half.
Overall, I thought this was a good twisty thriller. So, if you're into slow-burn mysteries with a lot of family drama, shady characters, and long-held secrets, this may be the book for you.
Fast paced audiobook to listen to with lots of interesting characters. Good story with lots of turns and twists right down to the last few chapters. At times It was hard to follow when all three were talking because the voices were similar. The story did jumped around a lot and was somewhat predictable but… a good easy read/listen.
The beginning of No one can know truly feels like they don’t want anyone to know. It was very slow paced and seemed to take forever to reveal the secrets that are hinted at throughout the story. I didn’t really feel like I got to know the characters and didn’t particular like any of them. It also felt a bit twisty for me. I love a good twist but I’m not a fan of twist, twist, twist, twist. For someone who enjoys that, they would love this one

This twisty murder mystery will keep you at the edge of your seat!
The beginning and the ending were quite gripping for me, but too much meandering in the middle made me lose my focus with this one.
This was an intriguing and suspenseful read! The combination of a murder mystery and psychological thriller can made for a gripping story. The idea of three sisters who are bound by a dark secret adds an extra layer of complexity to the plot. It is a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat, trying to unravel the truth. Kate is always worth the read!
I can't see what comes next from her!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for granting me access to an advanced audio copy of this book. You're following three sisters' perspectives in both 'now' and 'then' timelines. These converge nicely and paint a picture of an abusive family history and a troubled and trauma-riddled present life. The sisters were pretty much all questionable in their actions and motivations, and I didn't connect solidly with any of them. I liked Juliette the most and found her to be the most realistic and relatable. The other two did not seem like real people, operating in such unfathomable and unbelievable ways that placed them outside of reality for me. Overall, this was an intriguing read and it kept my attention, but it likely won't stick with me. I also feel that there were a handful of loose ends left untied, along with myriad rapid-fire iterations of a twisted ending.
I ended up picking up the physical copy of No One Can Know to finish off the book as the narrator wasn't working for me. I'm giving the audiobook narration a 2 star and the plot a 4.5 star for an overall 4 star.
I think this one is much stronger in plot than Marshall's previous, but the middle did lag.
This is the second KAM books I’ve been disappointed in. The story was fine but it just fell a little flat.
Karissa Vacker was a knockout as usual though and I’ll continue to listen to most thrillers if she’s narrating.
The premise of this book is what sold me! Overall I really enjoyed this one, but wasn't fully invested in the storyline. This is still a book I'd recommend to friends, it just wasn't my "cup of tea" but I know others will definitely enjoy this one!
This was an excellent book! I felt engaged and then I knew the characters easily. Highly recommend. The storyline was easy to follow.
