I was able to listen to an audiobook of Kate Alice Marshall's No One Can Know. This is an enjoyable thriller, with plenty of twists. The narrator does a great job and keeps the story moving. The book is pretty standard fare, multiple characters, Lots of secrets. Rotating chapters in terms of what character is being focused on. And the book takes awhile to drag you in, but it succeeds in doing so. An enjoyable listen. And the book will keep you trying to figure out who was responsible for the murder of Emma's parents years ago. And then add in another murder. And you are in for a ride. Good book.

So I'm realizing murder house is a trope I like. This one doesn't have haunted house vibes or anything, but one of the three sisters moves back to the house where her parents were murdered. She says, "she shouldn't be here, dredging up the past." And that's a vibe I was there for. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for all the past secrets to come to light. I binged the audiobook in one day 🤣 The narrator was great.
While I enjoyed this book, I actually liked the author's debut novel slightly better. Idk if it's because I just watched the Gypsy Rose documentary, but I felt the plot of abusive parents getting murdered was a little tired. I was hopeful when there was a bit of an organized crime element to the story, but it really wasn't as big a part of the story as it could have been. I know it's not a romance (and no spoilers!) but I was happy with the ending!
I feel like this one quote perfectly captures the story- "You paid a premium for privacy on this side of Arden Hills, for the luxury of secrets."
Thank you so much NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the arc!
Juliet, Emma, and Daphne haven't spoken in years. They especially haven't spoken about what happened to their parents THAT night almost a decade ago. Their childhood home has been left almost exactly as it was that night that their parents were apparently murdered. No one knows what really happened.
Questions begin to be stirred up again when Emma and her husband, Nathan, move back to the house out of desperation. Nathan has lost his job, Emma is pregnant, and they lose their apartment. However, the solution is not as simple or peaceful as either of them hope it will be. More murder and secrets are in store.
The first half of this was fairly slow, but once it hit the halfway dramatic event, I couldn't put it down. I loved how the twists kept coming and even when you thought you knew “who done it”, it still wasn’t clear how. The changes in perspectives and timelines also effectively kept you guessing. One character would "figure out" what happened and have everything wrapped up, then the perspectives would change and it would all have been a lie.
I also loved the sibling connection and storyline as the three sisters reconciled and slowly learned to trust one another again. They were terrorized by abusive parents, but that bolstered them together.
The characters are a bit cartoony at times, especially the "bad guys" who face off against the sisters. Some of the dramatic twists were a bit far-fetched, too. Overall, this one was really enjoyable and captivating, though.
The narrator on this one felt classic and did a great job narrating different voices (especially the male voices). I feel like it's harder to narrate changing perspectives, but she did it wonderfully.
Thanks to NetGalley for the Advanced Readers' Copy!
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC audio of this book.
First, I need to lead with: this is the first book I have fully completed start to finish on audio. I am not a fan of audiobooks personally and I feel this affected my overall rating of this book. If I had read a physical version, which I will likely still purchase, I know I would have enjoyed it even more.
I loved the dual POVs AND timelines in this book! It was done so well and was not confusing as to what was happening for who and when. The story was intriguing and I wanted to hear what happened next. I DID enjoy this.
However, I feel there was connection missing from the characters. While trauma was prevalent, I didn’t feel connected to any of the characters and none of the characters were connected to each other. When (potentially spoiler so please don’t continue if you don’t want a single thing spoiled) a very significant character gets murdered in the book…. There was such a light reaction? I didn’t feel sad or loss like I would reading about this typically. I also feel there was no real motive to him being murdered 😬
The twist wasn’t very twisty, but I still thought it was clever.
I also am still confused on what the parents were even doing or what was on the flash drive? Again, this might be me needing to re listen to the audio as I struggle with these.
Overall a good story, I do recommend to thriller readers but choose your way of reading to make it the best experience for you. 😌
First book ive read by this author, and ill definitely be read more! Loved this book! Great who done it. Ending was jaw dropping! I love a good ending like this one!
I enjoyed listening to No One Can Know. The narration was engaging and well done. The plot was slightly predictable but it provided entertainment enough I would read more by this author. I liked the vibe and the ending was satisfying.

I really enjoyed Into the Woods, and was excited to read this book. However, I did not find myself as interested or invested in the characters or plot of this book. None of the characters were particularly likable, and they did not have much depth. I found much of the book to be slow.
I still however look forward to read the author’s next book given my affinity to Into the Woods!
Thank you to author, publisher, NetGalley for advanced audio copy. This is an honest voluntary review.
No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall
Thank you to @netgalley and @flatironbooks for the #advancedreadercopy in exchange for my #honestbookreview. This suspense read is out January 23 and also available early as a BOTM pick!
I really enjoyed this one a lot! Took me a little time to get into the story at first and it is slow at moments. Every single character in this book is somewhat sketchy and everyone has their secrets. I truly went back and forth on who I thought the killer was and ultimately was shocked by the final reveal. Definitely a domestic thriller that keeps you guessing throughout. I recommend this for suspense fans!

No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall is a fun thriller. I’ve not read anything by this author before, but she came highly recommended by friends. I found this to be a compelling read. I definitely stayed up way past my usual bedtime to finish it. I love the duel timeline as three sisters deal with the fallout from the murder of their parents 14 years later, as well as their experiences in the days just before the murders. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was fantastic. I would give this 4 stars. I definitely look forward to reading more from the author.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Emma never imagined returning to the house she grew up in or ever seeing her sisters again. It has been 14 years since her parents were murdered in that house. Even worse, everyone thinks Emma did it. But, when times get tough, Emma is forced to move back home. The past comes right back up. Emma and her sisters have never spoken about what really happened that night her parents were murdered. As Emma and her husband begin to clean up the house, Emma realizes that she must find out what really happened once and for all.
Kate Alice Marshall tells this story alternating between the past and the present. Slowly, she feeds the reader information, little puzzle pieces for the reader to put together. I really enjoyed this one. The twists and turns were perfect. The narration by Karissa Vacker was superb as always. There are several different characters in the story, and I never felt lost because she seamlessly jumps from character to character. I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys thrillers! I give it 4/5 stars.
Thank you Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I was very excited to read No One Can Know after reading What Lies in the Woods last year and enjoying it. This book did not disappoint. I read the book and listened to the audiobook at the same time.
When Emma and her husband, Nathan, go through a tough time, they are forced to return to her childhood home—the home where she and her two sisters lived and where both of her parents were murdered. Being forced to return to town, Emma needs to tell Nathan that most of the town thinks that Emma killed her parents. After the murder, the three sisters split ways without talking about what happened. When they reunite, they face the secrets they've been keeping for years.
The narrator, Karissa Vacker, has quickly become one of my favorite narrators. She does a great job using her voice to change for each character. It makes it easy to follow, especially dialogue. Her pacing was nice. I think I would listen to her read me my grocery list. I would highly recommend this audiobook to any listeners out there who love mystery.
The story started out good and engaging. But it just started to drag.
It needed to be tighten up. Some of the characters I was invested in but I had difficulty caring about them. It twisted okay but a lot people just not talking and that troupe of miscommunication/understanding can bog down a story. The relationships were nicely written and you felt the sisters connections. Author has a good flow of writing and will read again.
Great premise and narration. The opening and closing scenes especially were well written. It was easy to get sucked into this book while following the sisters' lives and what they were doing. A few good twists. However, as I followed along, I was able to guess the murderer before the final reveal.
I would like to thank Kate Alice Marshall, NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Everyone keeps secrets but those secrets can be deadly. This story follows three estranged sisters that reunite years after the tragic death of their parents. But who really killed their parents, Emma, JJ, or Daphne.
I really enjoyed the different perspectives shared of that tragic night by the sisters and how it helped you fill in the blanks along the way. I just knew I had it figured out half way through.
This book had more twist and turns than a rollercoaster 🎢 and at some points I was a little confused. However, it ended with a thrill that I didn’t see coming. Oh btw if Karissa Vacker narrates it I’m going to listen!
This book was really slow and drawn out.it didn't feel like there was any action or suspense at all. No twists. Very boring.
I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrator did a good job. I enjoyed the story about a woman going back home after her sister was murdered and her father was convicted of the death. Not everything is as it seems. I liked the characters.
This book started off so strong and sucked me in until about halfway when the story began to drag and lost my attention. This felt like another small town crime story that is overtold. There were also way too many "who did it" theories and that kept getting more and more obscure and got boring.
Although I felt like the book dragged on by the end I did feel like the character development for the three sisters was well done but the secondary characters like Gabriel and Nathan was lacking. While I'm not always a fan of books with time hops I felt like it actually really worked in this book and encouraged me to continue listening in order to find out the truth. The short chapters were well crafted and helped move the story along.
I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the performance by Karissa Vacker and her narration helped bring the story and characters to life.
I read What Lies in the Woods and then waited zero days to dive into No One Can Know, Kate Alice Marshall’s second adult mystery/thriller. Not only did I get my hands on the ARC from Flatiron Books and the ALC from MacMillan Audio, but I also chose the BOTM edition for my December box.
Emma is in a tight spot. Her husband Nathan loses his job and she finds out they are unexpectedly pregnant. They have no choice but to return to Emma’s childhood home she owns with her two sisters. They haven’t spoken in 14 years, since the night their parents were murdered in the very same home. Emma was immediately convicted by the court of public opinion of the heinous crime, but the three sisters never hashed out what exactly happened that night. But Emma and Nathan’s presence in town is bringing up old memories and older grudges, and its not long before the truth slowly begins to come to light.
This second (adult) novel was great! There were many twists and turns along the way that had me pulling my hair out. I made so many notes and highlights trying to figure it out! There are so many suspects for the original crime, and really any one of them could have easily had the motive and means to commit the murders. This made for a fun read. One thing I particularly loved was the relationship of the sisters- each of the characters were quintessentially developed for their birth order and role in their strained family.
No One Can Know had me furiously turning the pages, desperate for answers. What more can you want from a thriller? I absolutely recommend this book! Thank you to MacMillan Audio for the ALC in exchange for my review.

I did not want to stop listening to this story! Secrets, betrayals, twists and turns galore. When the end came, I finally came up for air but, really didn’t want the story to end.
Three sisters have secrets going back to the night their parents were murdered. After the murders, the sisters are separated and they don’t talk about that night. Fast forward years, one sister moves back into the house where the murders took place. The sisters all have to agree what will happen to their childhood home so, in order for the sister live there, they have to communicate again. This homecoming will open Pandora’s box. Secrets will come spilling out. Can the sisters protect one another? Will the community let sleeping dogs lie? Who is guilty and of what exactly?
The narrator’s voice sounds just like what I’d imagine Emma’s to sound like. She hit all the right notes that highlighted characters’ emotions and building tension when needed. I would happily listen to her storytelling any time.
Thank you #NetGalley and #MacmillanAudio for the opportunity to hear this story and review it. #NoOneCanKnow
Kate Alice Marshall is a phenom when it comes to keeping you on the edge of your seat. Fast-paced, intrigue, suspense, a real whodunit until the end.
