Anewly pregnant woman finds herself confronting a grisly incident from her past in this propulsive and intricate psychological thriller.
Emma has just discovered she’s pregnant when she’s also faced with an astonishing financial deception on the part of her husband, Nathan. Since they’re about to lose their rental apartment, she agrees that they can temporarily move back into the spacious family home she owns jointly with her sisters. Trouble is, that house was the site of her parents’ deaths 14 years ago—when Emma was just 16—and, as it turns out, Emma has her own secrets that she’s been keeping from Nathan and others. Once they return to Emma’s New England hometown to an often unfriendly reception, Emma slowly begins to reestablish previous relationships, including those with her estranged sisters, Daphne and Juliette. But, as Marshall’s meticulously plotted novel reveals quite quickly, Juliette and Daphne have just as many secrets. The time-shifting account, even given its multiple narrators, flows at a furious pace, exposing the bare bones of a familial horror show in the form of some seriously bad parenting. But is that the only nefarious element driving the characters’ lives? Marshall’s deft writing teases out revelations aplenty, perpetually ratcheting up the tension—and an element of violence—while keeping the story skimming along.
Family connections prove both their damage and their worth in this community-focused thriller.
Rounding up from 3.5
Totally spaced on reviewing this one! This is a great addition to your psychological thriller book binging. You DEFINITELY need to pay attention because there are so many things happening in this story. It was a good not overplayed story line of three sisters who return home 20 ish years after their parents were murdered in their home. Will any relationship survive being in the family home?
I truly enjoyed this story, I loved the multi layered POVs and even though a part of me knew who did it I still found myself waiting for the big reveal. I am excited to read more from the author.
If you like a slow-burn mystery with a lot of family drama, long-held secrets, and shady characters this is for you. The premise pulled me in. Estranged sisters reuniting after the murder of their parents with one sister possibly being the murderer was intriguing. The alternating timelines and multiple POVs slowed down the plot at times. The beginning hooked me but lost me slightly halfway. I can’t say I disliked this story, but I didn't love it either. The narration of the audiobook was well done adding intensity when necessary. The conclusion was interesting and thought-provoking. Thank you, NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for my audiobook.
"The author of What Lies in the Woods returns with a novel about three sisters, two murders, and too many secrets to count."
💬 I enjoy a mystery thriller that includes the main character returning to their hometown where lots of secrets lie. This story slowly peels away the layers of what happened the night that Emma's parents were found murdered. With only Emma and her sisters at the house at the time of the murders, the sister agree to stick together and protect each other. While they have remained loyal to the story they created and each other over the years, it has created distance between them. However now that Emma has returned, long held secrets begin to unravel.
This story was a bit of a slower burn, but the characters and the mystery that surrounds each of them kept me turning the page. With complicated sister relationships, a mysterious double murder, and a sleezy husband thrown in the mix this story delivers a great mystery that kept me guessing until the end.
🎧 The audiobook is well narrated and easy to listen to - sweeping me into the story.

💕 Thank you to @netgalley and @macmillan.audio for the gifted copy of this book.
Wow, this was a rollercoaster. Definitely did not expect the ending or the many twists. I loved how fast-paced the story was. Literally kept me guessing until the end. I loved how utterly flawed the characters were and that it was told from the perspectives of all three sisters. Looking forward to this author's next novel! Thank you!
I liked No One Can Know in parts if that makes sense. The relationships between the sisters are complicated and interesting, but the men in this book felt kind of like an afterthought. I liked the author's earlier book What Lies In the Woods more than this one. I'm a huge fan of Karissa Vacker's narration and always look for her audiobooks. She does a great job in this one too!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.
I loved this book until about halfway through. There was a lot going on with the characters and timelines. Overall I enjoyed this fast paced thriller by Marshall. I look forward to more by her in the future! Thank you!!
Gripping!
Their pasts are simply unescapable. For the last 14 years, sisters Emma, Daphne and Juliette have been trying to move on from their parents' murders. As you can imagine, it’s not that easy. All three went their separate ways after and unfortunately for Emma, she’s still the main suspect in the double murder. None of the sisters wanted to go back to where it all started, but unfortunately for them, they don’t have a choice. The past isn’t finished with them, and this time, there's no escape.
A pulse pounding thriller from Kate Alice Marshall that'll be sure to keep you on your toes.
3.5 Stars.
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the alc.

"No One Can Know" by Kate Alice Marshall is a spellbinding and atmospheric thriller that kept me enthralled from beginning to end. Marshall masterfully crafts a tale of family secrets, betrayal, and danger that will leave readers on the edge of their seats.
The story follows Emma, who is forced to confront her past when she returns to her childhood home, a mansion where her parents were murdered years ago. As Emma delves into the mysteries surrounding her family's tragic history, she uncovers dark secrets and long-buried truths that threaten to unravel everything she thought she knew.
What I loved most about "No One Can Know" is its intricate and layered plot, filled with twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. Marshall expertly builds tension and suspense, creating a sense of unease that lingered with me long after I finished the book.
The audiobook narration adds another dimension to the story, immersing listeners in the eerie atmosphere of the small town and the haunted mansion where the events unfold. The characters are well-developed and relatable, and I found myself deeply invested in Emma's journey as she navigates the complexities of family loyalty and betrayal.
Overall, "No One Can Know" is a gripping and captivating thriller that will appeal to fans of suspenseful fiction. Kate Alice Marshall has crafted a truly compelling story that kept me up at night, eagerly listening to unravel the secrets hidden within its pages.
i looooooved “what lies in the woods” but like 1/3 into this book i realized i just did not care about the characters or what happened to them. love KAM though and will keep picking up her future books.
At its heart, No One Can Know is a story about the lasting impact of abuse and how trauma can shape each person in different ways. I found it twisty while still being grounded in reality. I always prefer this to over-the-top twists.
I also liked the characters, which is unsurprising because I always find Kate Alice Marshall's characters interesting regardless of their likeableness. If you know me, then you know I love a well-written unlikeable character. However, if you need characters with good intentions - this might not work for you.
I also enjoyed the mystery. I found myself racing to finish to discover what happened. I was satisfied with the ending.
My only real issue with this was its length and pacing. It is a little long, and I think one more sweep by the editor could have trimmed this down without ruining the story.
I don't know when it happened, but at some point, Karissa Vacker became one of my favorite audiobook narrators. Her narration for No One Can Know is phenomenal, giving a distinct voice to three POVs and two timelines. Her narration adds so much to the overall atmosphere of the story.

What a twisty tale! This murder mystery kept me guessing until the very last page. I love books like that! The audiobook is excellent, and the chapters are short, which made me want to keep listening. Definitely check out this book if you’re a fan of whodunnit mysteries.
“People needed stories to make sense of things. And she had learned to give them what they needed.”
Three sisters, two murders, and too many secrets to count. Emma is forced to return home when her husband finds out she has been keeping a secret: she owns part of her parents home...and they need ta place to live. Emma has been selective about what she has shared about her past, namely, not telling him that the entire town suspects her of murdering her parents. Emma's estranged sisters quickly realize she's back, and they all start meddling in each other's business again and make sure things that were left unspoken, remain that way.
As always with a Kate Alice Marshall, it was a captivating read. While the twists and reveals were obvious, it did not diminish my enjoyment of reading. I loved how slowly the characters and their stories became unraveled.

This was an amazing listen. I loved the narrator and it was easy to follow along with. The mystery is what makes this book a must read, along with the writing. It drew me in from the start and had me engrossed until the very end.
When your family is surrounded by murder and secrets, it is hard to keep the truth straight. Emma, who is pregnant and has recently lost her job, is in desperate need of a home for herself and her husband, the only house she can think of is the house where her parents were murdered, in a town where everybody thinks she may have played a part in their murder. Emma, along with her two sisters that she hasn't talked to in years, own the murder house and her husband knows nothing about how her parents died and only knows that they are no longer alive. After returning to the house, Emma is reconnected with her sisters, who are still intent on keeping their own secrets from that fateful night and in turn they may all be in danger.

no one can know including me bc I’m still only like 80% sure I actually know what happened in this book
nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed it
I listened to the last chapter of this book 3 or 4 times, having to go back and listen again because my brain just couldn't comprehend what I was listening to after the insane whirlwind of the last few chapters. Maybe it was because I listened to the audio instead of reading, but this book felt like a bunch of books mixed together to make one. It didn't really work for me.
Also - was this book insanely long or did it just take me forever? It felt like I listened to it for HOURS. The characters were all terrible and I had no idea what was happening half the time and I still don't really know if I know what all happened? There was just way too much to keep track of and way too many things happened to be able to focus on it, which really disconnected me from the entire book. Can't win them all.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC audio of No One Can Now. This book was easy to listen to, I liked the narrator. But, I didn’t think it was an original story. Seems like everything else I’ve read lately.
This author can really do no wrong in my eyes. I loved her as a YA author and I recent read her Middle Grade series and loved that and now we have her second adult book that I didn't love as much as What Lies in the Woods but it was pretty dang close. Is it bad to say that the dead parents got what they deserved? They were both horrible. And the husband? Good lord, don't get me started on his grossness. Overall, it's just a great thriller, and I can't wait to see what else she writes.
I absolutely loved What Waits in the Woods, so when Marshall’s newest book, No One Can Know, came out I knew that I had to have it! However, that being said, I did enjoy What Waits in the Woods a bit more then No One Can Know. I felt like there was just something missing that is holding me back from giving this book 5 stars. I feel like part of it was that is just felt like there were somethings that just kept getting repeated numerous times. But I still enjoyed the book overall! This was such a fast paced thriller that kept me on my toes throughout the book! I love it when authors do different POV. I will say that I was drawn more to the audio than the physical BOTM book that got. I felt like the narration just kept my focus a bit more and kept me wanting to listen to it!
