Emma has learned to live with the stigma of being accused of killing her parents fourteen years ago. She was not convicted but is the prime suspect. She and her two sisters left Arden Hills in the midst of the scandal and haven’t spoken to each other since.
Due to financial issues Emma and her husband return to her childhood home in Arden Hills. It is quickly evident that the community have not forgotten the incident. The unsolved case is reopened and Emma is pressured to confess. Her sisters unexpectedly return to Arden Hills and a secret that Emma’s husband has been keeping is unexpectedly revealed.
There are many twists and turns in this fast paced psychological thriller, some you will see coming and others will blind side you. Another great read by Kate Alice Marshall. Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for my ARC.
No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall was granted to me by Macmillan Audio and a physical copy was sent to me by Flatiron Books. From page one through the end, I was sucked into this novel. I can't thank Macmillan Audio and Flatiron Books enough for gifting me this book. Marshall has a particular talent for crafting complex characters that are morally gray and likable. It's the combination of those traits that make the stories intricate and keep you guessing until the end.
Emma has escaped her past, or so she thinks. When her husband is laid off and their funds are running out, he suggests the unthinkable, move into Emma's family home. Reluctantly, Emma agrees, but within those walls lies many secrets and the truths that ripped this family apart. Emma is estranged from her sisters, but after asking permission to stay in the house, both emerge from the woodwork. In a town where Emma has been long labeled the family murder, despite evidence to support the claim in a court of law, the stares, the whispers, and her husband's shame of his wife's past are too much for Emma. As desperately as she wants to keep the past carefully sealed away, it becomes inevitable that the truth will come out.
This was a suspenseful read. I loathed some of the characters and then found myself empathizing with them. There is a bit of vigilante justice in this one that I loved and felt icky for loving too.
Family bonds that bind aren't always a good thing...or are they?
Rich, bad parents are killed. Emma is one of the three daughters and the number one suspect.
Emma was a teenager then, now she’s pregnant & married to Nate. The story flips from then to now and I swear I didn’t see the ending coming!
Three murders. Multiple suspects that all looked guilty to me. LOL
Really enjoyed this ARC!
Oh I hated Nate!

Add this book to your list of twisty thrillers to read. The main character is Emma: she's in her early 30s, in a struggling marriage, with a husband who recently lost his job. They have no choice but to move back to Emma's small hometown and reside in the childhood home she inherited after her parents were murdered. Emma was the prime suspect in the case and the police are quick to let her know they still have their eye on her. To complicate matters, her estranged sisters come back into her life and the cold case is reopened. The three sisters have never talked about what happened that fateful night, but their secrets must come to light before someone goes to prison, or worse.
This was a really quick listen and I enjoy books with alternating timelines. But with that and multiple points of view, it often felt like too much. Especially the end, when most of the plot twists happen. So I was ultimately left feeling confused, but still enjoyed it as a whole. If you loved 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙇𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙨 then I think you'll also love this one. Narration was by the talented Karissa Vacker and once again I loved listening to her. She did subtle differences between the three sisters which helped to distinguish them from one another.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC.
I really enjoyed this book - all the twists and turns. It really made you think about what the characters were capable of. At the beginning I was sure I knew who actually did it. By the middle I had a list of about 5 suspects. At the end I was still wrong. I enjoyed the character development as well as the dual timelines- the then and now.
Thank you to NetGalley the publisher and author. ✨
This was my first book by Kate Alice Marshall and it was great! I loved the murder mystery vibes mixed with psychological thriller undertones. I enjoyed the writing style for the most part, but I did feel like the book was a little longer than it needed to be. I lost focus for part of the middle.
The narrator was excellent!
Fourteen years have passed since Emma, Juliette, and Daphnes parents were murdered in their family home. The three sisters leave their home town, go their separate ways, and haven’t spoken since.
Emma and her husband find themselves in a financial hardship with a baby on the way and no place to live, and with no other choice, return to the home she grew up in.
Emma never told anyone, including her husband, what had happened to her parents and what she had been accused of. But moving back home puts her secret in major jeopardy. When her and her sisters reunite in their home town, they realize just how far all of them have, and will go, to protect one another!
Kate Alice Marshall did it again with No One Can Know, this compelling, fast paced and twisty thriller will have you on the edge of your seat constantly guessing who did it!
Thank you NetGalley and Flatiron books for the Advaced Readers Copy of No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall.
This book shows the lengths sisters will go to protect themselves and each other. Years ago, Daphne, Emma, and JJ's parents were murdered. Everyone though Emma had done it, but no one could prove it. Now Emma and her husband are moving back into her family's house due to financial issues. It is here where the past surfaces and all three sisters and some old acquaintances must work together to solve what happened all those years ago.
I absolutely enjoyed the twists and turns this book took. Just when I thought I knew What was going on, a wrench was thrown in the gears and the plot took a turn. Sisters who protected each other, kept secrets to protect each other, and ultimately sacrificed pieces of themselves to survive more than just their parents' deaths, are pulled together with tragedy. I love the idea that family will protect you...eventually.
Overall I thought this was a decent story but it felt too similar to What Lies in the Woods, the author’s previous work making it predictable.
3.5 / 5 star!
Thank you, NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audiobook of No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall for a review!
I hate to admit but I feel like I've been spoiled with multiple narrators from other books and although the narrator, Karissa Vacker, did very well reading the whole book I wished that the POV were done by different narrators.
This story involves 3 sisters who are drawn back to their family home where their parents were murdered. They're under suspicion and the case is never closed. The truth is bound to come out. The book had me hooked in the beginning, however, the middle dragged for me and I was able to pick up what happened if I was to miss a section. I did get confused on some of the male characters because their names sounded all blended in and there were times I tried to remember what their role in this thriller was, but like I mentioned before it was easy for me to pick up what was going on. The ending was unexpected and quick. Not bad for my first book by Kate Alice Marshall.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC audiobook.
Two parents murdered. Three daughters under suspicion. Nothing was ever proven, but when one sister comes back to town, all eyes are on her.
From the beginning, this book pulled me in. I basically suspected everyone as the murderer at some point in time. The middle sort of dragged for me, but the ending…..I was not expecting. At all.
First twisty thriller of 2024! ✔️
Over a decade ago, Emma took the fall for her sisters. They all believed they were covering for each other, but were they? The truth, or some version of it, has been haunting them for years. Now, when Emma & her husband move back into the family home where their parents were murdered, the Palmer sisters will have to face down the secrets they’ve tried to keep buried for so long. After all, No One Can Know. 🤫
This book will take you on a ride! Multiple times I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong. It’s amazing to me how the author brings multiple storylines together. The book is told though the POV of the three Palmer sisters, alternating between present day and “then.” The book is dark, in regards to both the atmosphere and the content. The story kept me interested, and I was invested in the characters and the plot all the way to the end. If you’re looking for something that will draw you in, break your heart a little, and keep you guessing, check this one out when it releases on January 23, 2024! The audio is very well done, and I am glad I was able to take in this book in that format.
Thank you to @netgalley & @macmillan.audio for the chance to listen to and review this great audiobook!

I really enjoyed this one. The 3 alternating POVs between the sisters added so much depth to this story. The audiobook was fantastically narrated as well. This comes out Jan 23!
Thank you Macmillan audio for the alc in exchange for an honest review.
Ooh this was quite an addictive story! I really enjoyed the audio because the narrator is one of my favs! This was a story that was so easy to get sucked into. It kept me guessing and trying to figure out what the truth was. Some of it happened a little fast that I had to rewind to relisten, mostly because I was multitasking. But I liked how it all pieced together tho I was hoping for a little more of a *gasp* moment but it was an enjoyable thriller and I definitely recommend the audio!
No One Can Know is the first book I’ve read by Kate Alice Marshall and I wasn’t disappointed at all. I enjoyed the mystery surrounding the death of Emma’s parents. I can’t imagine how scary it would be to be the main suspect. Marshall kept me guessing from beginning to end! I would say it’s a page turner, but I listened to the audiobook, which is very well narrated. Many thanks to Netgalley and MacMillian Audio for the opportunity to read an advance audiobook copy of No One Can Know.
Thank you @macmillan.audio & @netgalley for the early audio. This was my second (both within a week) by this author and I truly adore her work. So many thrillers lately have gotten so predictable, and even when not predictable, just boring. This book truly defined psychological thriller and kept you guessing the whole time. Multiple POV and timelines, I could not put this down, and the ending did not disappoint. Despite what they overcame as sisters that drove them apart, they kept their secrets and their loyalty to each other, even after 14 years without talking. When Emma comes back to town with her husband Nathan, the sisters re-visit to make sure their secrets will stay hidden. The characters were so well written - though I hated Nathan from the first page - and just an overall fantastic book. Good start to the year, and looking forward to more by Kate Alice Marshall.
Sisters estranged for years after a massively traumatic upbringing. They can only run for so long until the past brings them back together. As the story plays out, weaving the past with the future, you are transported back and forth in the most thrilling ride. You never know who you can and can not trust along the way.
The narrator in the audiobook version was incredible and really brought the characters to life! I enjoyed her voice and completely got lost in the story.
Thank you, Kate Alice Marshall, MacMillan Audio, and NetGalley, for an audiobook version ARC in return for an honest review.
This was super twisty and I loved almost every minute of it! I really enjoy the way that Kate Alice Marshall builds up secrets and then slowly reveals twist after twist. This is her second adult thriller (I am also a big fan of her YA and MG books) and I think it was very well done. The characters in this one aren't particularly likeable, but I actually liked that because then I wasn't too upset or shocked by any of their actions.
Anyway, I would definitely recommend this one to thriller lovers. Karissa Vacker as the narrator was wonderful as always.
3.5 Stars
I had the opportunity to read this book alongside the audio.
Plot -
Three sisters grew up in an abusive home until one night their parents were murdered and middle child Emma was always the prime suspect. Years later, Emma returns with her husband to fix up the family home, but there are people who want to make sure she doesn't share what she knows.
Narration -
I really enjoyed the narrator of this book. I thought she really brought the character of Emma to life for me. I thought the pace was fantastic and the inflection was spot on. I could feel what Emma was feeling just by the tone.
Thoughts -
I thought this book was just okay. It didn't wow me. The plot centers around the sisters being suspects and delves into the idea that their parents were abusive. There were a couple of unhinged moments and examples, but it felt like it wasn't explained enough. The sisters as girls kept having this idea that they could "never leave," despite one of the sisters about to turn 18. The whole thing just wasn't explained well.
There were also too many plot twists for me. I often enjoy a double plot twist, but this one felt like it kept saying, "this person it the murderer, just kidding, this person it the murderer. Psych! It was actually this person. Lol got you! This is the real murderer." It got to be too much for me and a little confusing.
I really enjoyed Kate Alice Marshall's first book, WHAT LIES IN THE WOODS, but this one missed the mark for me a little bit. Overall, it was well written and a fast easy read, but I would have preferred more focus on the backstory and less on the endless plot twists.
No One Can Know how much of a let down this book was. Please note I did not say it was bad, it just had so much potential only to be one of those books that fizzles out like an Alka Seltzer on your GrandPa's night stand.
Kate Alice Marshall's writing combined with Karissa Vacker's narration did a fantastic job sucking you in and building an atmosphere of "What the actual Flapjack is going on". The first 25% was so easy to digest and slide right into the story of Emma Palmer returning to her childhood home with her husband (Nathan) where her parents murdered . The murders were never solved, and Emma was the top suspect. When Emma returns, her estranged sisters show up and it is clear someone does not want the truth to come out. As the story progresses you come to find out there were reasons the parents to be killed, or should I say motives? But who can be trusted?
After the initial set up of the plot and then transition into the middle portion of the novel, I felt like the book really slowed down and it felt like a bunch of nothin happened, or just more and more examples of how the Palmer girls grew up. When the final 10% came, Marshall threw it into 5th gear and threw some serious action and twist. It became kind of confusing/twisted, almost messy? I guess what I am trying to say is I liked how things ended up but, I believe it was the journey to get there that left me disappointed.
The "Killer" is revealed earlier, however I believe this book could have been a 5 star if that bit of information had been witheld and we had that last chapter to chew on.....
I was really expecting to like this book more, but I found myself very distracted and disinterested in the middle of this book. I can't pinpoint it why, but it was just dull. Maybe it was me?
I for sure will ready more by this author because I can see how she can craft a good story and throw some great twist....
Glad I read it, wish there was less fog.
Thank you Net Galley for this advanced copy of No One Can Know. I was not paid or influenced to write this review.
