I was a little disappointed by this book. I wanted more murder and mystery. Fell a little flat to me.
I am so glad I got the read this book early and love this author overall. Can’t wait to read her next works.
Short synopsis: Emma and her husband Nathan are moving back to her childhood home after he’s laid off from his job. She hasn’t told him much about her past, just that her parents are dead and she hasn’t talked to her sisters much since. Returning to her hometown, she finally tells him she was accused of murdering her parents.
My thoughts: Kate Alice Marshall sure knows how to write a thriller book. While I did expect some of the twists, the red herrings thrown in my path kept me second guessing myself until the very last page.
She developed each of the sisters and their backstories so well, and the way she wrote the past/present timelines we slowly unravel the secrets along with the characters.
This is my second by the author and I’m now putting all her previous books on hold at the library because I can’t get enough.
I did the majority of this book via audio narrated by Karrisa Vacker, she did a phenomenal job as always in telling this story and sucking me in to this small town mystery. Highly recommend!

No One Can Know is a fast paced thriller from start to finish. I was sucked right in from the beginning and couldn't put it down! Emma and her husband, Nathan, are faced with some unfortunate turn of events which brings them back to Emma's childhood home. Emma had no intentions of returning to the home where her parents were murdered, and the last place that she was connected with her two estranged sisters. Upon arrival, the community hasn't forgotten that Emma was the prime suspect of her parents killings, and Emma was able to walk away, but not without hidden secrets and questions. It doesn't take long for pieces of the mystery to start to unravel, and someone is desperate to keep the past in the past.
I loved it, I would highly recommend this new book by Kate Alice Marshall, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite thriller writers!
I also had the pleasure of listening to the audio version of the novel. The narration was fabulous!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kate Alice Marshall for the gifted ARC.
This book is a mystery that explores the complexities of family, betrayal, and the haunting secrets that bind three sisters. Set against the backdrop of a mysterious murder that shattered their family years ago, the novel weaves a tale of suspense that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. The story revolves around the Palmer sisters—Emma, Juliette, and Daphne—who fled their family home in Arden Hills after their parents' murder fourteen years ago. The narrative takes a compelling turn when Emma, now facing the challenges of impending motherhood and economic hardship, is forced to return to the scene of the crime. The tension escalates as the sisters, estranged for over a decade, are drawn together once again, their shared past and buried secrets threatening to resurface. This book will leave readers questioning the bonds of family and the lengths to which one will go to protect those they love.
I highly recommend it! I found it to be very enjoyable.
4.5 stars rounded up. I read What Lies in the Woods earlier this year and enjoyed it, so I was excited to get an early copy of Kate's newest thriller. This was faster paced than What Lies in the Woods and I was immediately drawn in. I had a hard time setting it down. The narrator did a great job in keeping me focused and captivated. The story is told in multiple POVs, each sisters then and now. The dual timelines and multiple POVs really helped the book keep up its fast pace. The twists don't stop and you never know what/who you can trust. I really thought I had a majority of the whodunnit figured out but the ending was not what I expected. I definitely felt like the author was trying to confuse us readers in the last part of the book. It is cleared up pretty well by the very end. This is a twisty thriller full of secrets, some likable and some unlikable characters, and an addictive murder mystery. I think this will be a big book in the new year!
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an ALC in exchange for an honest review.
No One Can Know was just an average thriller, in my opinion. Was I entertained? Yes. Was it slightly predictable? Also yes. The ending was maybe a little rushed and the beginning a little drawn out. The narration on the audiobook was excellent, however.
This was my second book by Kate Alice Marshall and I really liked it! I think the pacing was really good, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time just trying to figure out what happened. I didn't get it right in the end! I feel like I enjoyed this one a little more than What Lies In The Woods but they are both really good! If you are a fan of mystery / thrillers you will definitely enjoy this one! I can't wait to see more from this author!
I really enjoyed this twisty ride! I previously read this, and was approved did the audiobook. I love Karissa Vacker as a narrator, and so I think I enjoyed the story better the second time around through the audiobook. This is my second book by the author and I will be on the hunt for more. I loved the premise, and really liked having different character point of views throughout the book. I did not predict the twists at the end which always makes me love a book more. This is a solid 4 star super twisty physiological thriller that I can’t wait to recommend!
This was my first Alice Kate Marshal and I really like her style.
I received the audio book from NetGalley, and don’t often listen to audio books but I enjoyed this one a lot.
This story is multiple POVs in two different time lines.
3 sisters lost their parents one night as teens. Now one sister has to go back to the house where it all happened, and things start to unravel.
There are lots of twists and turns and everything is wrapped up nicely at the end. The narrator did a great job, even with the male voices and I will for sure be recommending this in book and audio form.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall (audio book) is one eerie murder mystery! I thought the narrator Karissa Vacker did a marvelous job giving each character their own voice. The characters were interesting, and the story was very engaging, and a little creepy. I stayed up until 3:00a.m. listening to it. I really enjoyed the audio book.
Kate Alice Marshall delivers another twisty mystery. No One Can Know has incredible characters. Five stars.
No One Can Know is Kate Alice Marshall’s latest psychological thriller. With multiple victims and a seemingly endless list of suspects, the tension starts building from the very first page.
The story unfolds via multiple points of view over dual timelines. Emma and her sisters, Juliette and Daphne, have been estranged since their parents were found dead in their family home. Emma is the most likely suspect. When she returns to her childhood home with her husband amid their own relationship issues, old questions arise and secrets begin to unravel.
Some parts of the book feel a bit drawn out, but the excellent narration keeps the story moving and holds the listener’s attention. The author does a good job of bringing the pieces of this complex story together to a satisfying conclusion.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC in exchange for my unbiased review.
Great narration. I did not like a single guy in this book but loved getting to know the sisters and diving into their secrets. Entertaining, quick listen. Love, love when the last few chapters lay out so many secrets. Good mystery book.
n Kate Alice Marshall's second adult novel she once again has a twisty tale of broken people seeking the truth that they are keeping mostly from themselves. She has a knack for writing characters that you can relate to. Even though there were twists and turns, I had a inkling of who had committed the murders. There were a few loose ends that I hadn't seen the solution to coming. Everything made sense in the very end. This was a solid thriller from an author that has started in the adult thriller category. Eagerly waiting for more.
Book 4 stars
Narrator 5 stars
This was a good read! I was already a fan of KAM after what lies in the woods, and this is another I would recommend. My only complaint is it’s written in third person POV, which I personally prefer first.
Three sisters are separated after their parents are murdered in their home. Years later, one sister and her husband are forced to move back into the home due to financial issues and the girls are reconnected.
Would recommend if you liked Not A Happy Family or The Overnight Guest.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for my advanced copy!
Oh my goodness, this was so twisty and so good! I really loved Emma which had me rooting for her name to be cleared. I never expected it to end the way it did. I loved Marshall’s first book, but this was even better! Sometimes when books have tons of characters they can seem half baked, but these characters were all well written and dynamic
This is my second book by Kate Alice Marshall, and now I will forever read whatever she writes. Her books are suspenseful and bingey and I adore them.
Short Synopsis:
Emma returns home for the first time. She’s jobless, homeless and pregnant. And has no other options than to return to the mansion that she grew up in. Oh, but it’s also the place her parents were murdered. And oh yeah, she’s the police number one suspect, they just never found proof.
My Thoughts:
This was such a fun thriller from cover to cover. I loved uncovering the secrets and trying to figure whodunnit.
When I saw my favorite thriller audiobook narrator, @karissavacker, was the narrator for this one, I knew audio was the way to go. And Karissa as always, killed this one.

Emma has a complicated and harrowing past-- her parents are dead, and she is estranged from her two sisters. When faced with financial troubles, she and her husband decide to move into her childhood home, where they will settle and raise the child she is newly pregnant with. However, her family history and secrets begin to surface, including that this mansion is the location of her parents' deaths. Told through past and present timelines, the reader is led down a windy path as to the events surrounding Emma's parents' deaths. Emma and her sisters never have spoken about what actually happened that night, but there are plenty of theories floating around. You will be left on the edge of your seat as you wait to discover the truth.
Karissa Vacker is one of my favorite thriller narrators, and she nailed it with this one. I continue to enjoy Kate Alice Marshall's work, and this kept my attention from start to finish. Thriller readers should absolutely pick this one up!

Prospective readers should take this title as far as possible: the characters can't know, and neither can you...for a long time. The good news is that the journey is still mostly pleasurable if a bit drawn out at times.
Emma, Juliette (aka JJ), and Daphne are sisters who have really challenging parents, to put it mildly, and so when their parents are murdered, each one of them is shaken but also apparently relieved. Readers will get enough insight into some of their experiences to find this otherwise terrible thought pretty understandable. What's striking about their situation is that there are many assumptions about what happened but no clear answers. Each one of the girls seems a likely suspect, but one stands out among the rest: Emma, who through unfortunate circumstances, must return with her husband and kid on the way to the hellhole where she was raised and last saw her parents' dead bodies. When Emma returns, her sisters resurface, more drama ensues, and folks finally have to start sharing some more info.
I did enjoy this read, but getting to the answers takes longer than I'd have liked. With more developed characters, this may not have been so noticeable, but there are some challenges on that front, too. This is a solid mystery/thriller overall, and I'm looking forward to more from this author.
***Having read the arc and listened to the alc, I want to recommend the alc. The narration adds a lot!
Thank you Netgalley and Flatiron books for the ARC audiobook!
Synopsis: Told in past and present timelines, and multiple POVs, No one can know, is a story about 3 sisters, 2 murders, and too many secrets to count.
My thoughts: First things first, the audio narration was so well done by the incredible Karissa Vacker! I definitely felt it redeemed the story for me and helped increase my rating a good bit! It started off really strong. The suspense, unreliable characters, lies, and secrets made for a gripping story but in the end it fell flat for me. There was lootttss of build-up and the pacing was kind of all over the place. At one moment, the story felt repetitive and slow then the next, it was rushed with twists being thrown out every which way. It was hard to keep everything straight and I’m still a little lost on a few on the sub plots😅
