I listened to the audiobook, and I must say: the narrator, Karissa Vacker, is one of my favorite voice actors of all time. She takes suspense to a whole new level. Taking Karissa’s voice and adding an intense mystery novel to it, there’s no possible way I won’t love it.
Although the story had one of my most hated tropes of all time, I really enjoyed it. (I won’t mention which one because it might be a spoiler.) The broken family and loving sibling themes were touching, and the mystery was a complete surprise to me.
If you’re looking for a fun, twisty thriller/mystery, pick this up! You definitely won’t be disappointed.
I had high expectations for this book as I loved What Lies in the Woods, but I felt like it was never ending. Every time I thought I was nearing the end it seemed like yet another twist was thrown in, as if the author was saying "but wait, there's more!" Every character seemed shallow and only in it for themselves, but that comes with the nature of the book. Told part in the present and part in flash backs meant to keep you guessing, this book revealed its cards pretty earlier on. I will read another book by this author, as I enjoyed the other one so much.
The narrator, Karissa Vacker, did an amazing job, as always. Her inflection at all the right times, and change in tone to tell characters apart was wonderful. I always enjoy listening to one of her narrations.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced listening copy of this book.
The parents of Emma, Juliette and Daphne, were murdered fourteen years ago. Emma was suspected to be the killer, but all of the sisters were carrying secrets from that day.
I went into this one with higher expectations than I should have. I liked the premise here but saw everything coming and didn't feel surprised when 'reveals' started happening, even though it was one of those 'or this happened' types. It was just a meh read for me.
I loved the narrator though and would listen to them again!
This was one of my favorite thrillers of the year so far. I really enjoyed the plot of this book and all of the twists and turns of it. The characters kept me on the edge of my seat, I didn’t know who to trust or who to root for. It was an exhilarating ride!
Loved the family ties and intertwined characters in this book. It was a definite ‘who did it’ until the very end! Each sister had a different perspective of what actually happened in their parent’s murders.
I was so excited to receive this audiobook as an ARC. I loved Kate Alice Marshall's "What Lies in the Woods" and was hoping for a similar thrilling story. This one was just okay. I enjoyed listening to it, but it was slow and felt dragged out. I felt the older and younger sisters' characters could have been as developed as the MC sister and it would have been more interesting to read about than all of the drama and interaction between the MC and her husband, which didn't really add to the story in my opinion. Overall, this book was a pretty good listen, but not as good as the author's previous book. I LOVE this narrator, Karissa Vacker. She has narrated several audiobooks I have listened to in the past and I always recognize her voice right away.

I read and enjoyed Kate Alice Marshall’s previous novel “What Lies in the Woods.” The description for “No One Can Know” was intriguing and I was looking forward to getting started.
When Emma returns home one afternoon, she is surprised to find her husband, Nathan is also home already. Then he says “We need to talk”. It turns out, Nathan has just lost his job. This news is especially upsetting since they just put down $10,000 on a house that they now can’t afford. Unfortunately, that money is non-refundable. Their duplex is going up for sale and they will have to leave by the end of the month. On top of all of that, Emma is pregnant.
Nathan suggests living in the house Emma owns with her estranged sisters. Emma hasn’t spoken to her sisters since their parents died years earlier. Emma doesn’t want to go back to the house or to Arden Hills. Unfortunately with no money, no job, and a baby on the way? Emma may not have a choice. They need a place to live.
“People in Arden Hills don’t forget”
Emma has told Nathan most of what happened in her past but there’s a few things she hasn’t mentioned. What will happen when Nathan hears the entire truth? Will Emma and Nathan regret their decision before they even get there?
A compelling and exciting read!!
I really liked this audiobook. The storyline was engaging and original with some good twists and turns. I did find the ending a little bit rushed but still thought this was a great read. The story was narrated by Karissa Vacker who was excellent as usual. She is definitely one of my favorite narrators.
I look forward to seeing what kind of story Kate Alice Marshall comes up with next!
I'd like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this novel. All opinions are my own.
Twisty, murder mystery that kept me listening well into the night. The audiobook was highly entertaining and transported the listener right into the story as all the best books should. Highly recommend!!
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for an early copy to listen to!
This was a wild and twisty ride. Emma's life is falling apart and circumstances force her to return her to her family home, the home that's been sitting empty since the night her parents were murdered and she and her sisters were split up... nobody knows what really happened that night not even the three sisters who backed up each other's alibis but never found out what the other ones were actually doing that fateful night and stayed out of each other's lives. Of course, there have been rumors and those rumors follow Emma and her husband whom she brings back with her. I enjoyed this thriller, there were plenty of twists and familial relationships especially the sisters relationships were right at the center. A shared trauma impacted them but the outcomes were quite different - the dual past and present timeline brought that to light even more acutely.
The audio narration by Karissa Vacker was so well done.
3.5 stars. THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS:
I liked this book but I can guarantee I won't remember it for very long because it was kind of chaotic. The book is about Emma and her husband Nathan. They're coming on hard times financially so they decide to move in to Emma's parents house. She shares the house with her 2 estranged sisters because her parents were murdered years ago and Emma was the main suspect (though she was never charged). She hasn't really told her husband about it so he's a little surprised when they get there and the town reacts to her presence. Her sisters decide to come back too and a lot of things are brought up. The book is told in then/now chapters where we get to see what happened around the time of the murders as well as currently what's going on. Old "friends" are coming back (the detective, boyfriends, etc.) and this unresolved crime gets a little more messy. Nathan is pretty quickly found dead when they move in and Emma's thoughts on being an anxiety sufferer were SO relatable. She said something about how you often spiral into thinking about your worst fears when something little happens (someone doesn't come home on time, answer their phone, etc.) but then when bad things actually DO happen, you're no more prepared. You've imagined it so many times its hard for your brain to comprehend that this time its real and not just another spiral. I can definitely relate to that. Anywho, Nate dies and she's the one who is there and discovers the body, but shes hesitant to call the police because she knows they will try to blame her. Long story short, everyone has a motive. The detective is shady and owns the gun that killed all the people. The mom committed suicide. None of the sisters really remember what they were doing that night. The ending feels ambiguous because everyone thinks they did it, but we dont' really get clear answers (or at least I didnt understand). It was chaotic and confusing and I didn't love the ending.
Okay this one wasn't it for me sadly. This was a psychological domestic/family thriller where three sisters were forced to return to their hometown and the house their parents suffered a murder/suicide, it's time to figure out what really happened that night. This was truly a situation of I could not stand any of the characters thus could not bring myself to be invested in any of them.
The premise of the book is that all three of them are lying about where they were that night and all three suspect each other/other people in the town. There are clues galore but they're also all unreliable narrators, which is my least favourite trope. Let me SOLVE the mystery, give me a fighting chance. This one just didn't!
This is one twisty, engaging thriller! I think the less you know going into this book the better. This book is dark and twisty. I love a book where everyone becomes a suspect. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, the author threw me another curveball. I loved the inclusion of dual POVs and alternating timelines.
I definitely recommend this thriller if you like family drama and lots of twists. I also recommend listening to the audiobook! The narrator did a great job!
A great start and an interesting set up for this novel. Unfortunately, the audio ARC would not play past chapter 4 so I cannot speak on the book as a whole. It definitely pulled me in enough that I plan to seek this out after publication to finish!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Genre: thriller/suspense
Quick summary: Emma didn't want to go back home to the house where her parents died - but her finances give her no choice. The town thinks she did it - but the truth is even more twisted.
I loved Kate Alice Marshall's last book (also narrated by Karissa Vacker), and this one met my high expectations! There were plenty of small twists to keep me hooked, and I loved that the last big twist totally knocked my socks off. I listened to this one in one day, and I think that says it all. I think audio is the way to go if you're on the fence between reading methods.
Thank you to Macmillan Audio for providing an ALC in exchange for an honest review.
This was an okay read. I found the plot very predictable and the characters were so unlikable. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. Average read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Flatiron Books for the E-ARC. And to Macmillan Audio for the ALC
All thoughts and opinions are honest and my own.
No One Can Know starts with Emma, one of the three sisters our story follows. Emma is married and it is obvious she hasn’t told her husband much about her past or her parent’s death. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, Emma and her husband need to stay in her childhood home for a little while. She has to reach out to her sisters, whom she hasn’t talked to in years, and she has to come clean to her husband that it’s not just that her parents died, but they were murdered in that home.
Emma’s return home opens up old wounds with her sisters and secrets are uncovered. Things go from bad to worse when someone else ends up dead.
This is my second read by Kate Alice Marshall. I have not read any of her YA, but Marshall is quickly becoming an auto buy author for me. I really enjoyed this mystery and highly recommend the audiobook.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for access to an early recording of this audiobook.
As always, all opinions are my own.
"No One Can Know" by Kate Alice Marshall is a gripping thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The intricate plot, filled with unexpected twists and turns, had me guessing until the very end. The characters were well-developed and relatable, making it easy to become emotionally invested in their journey. Marshall's writing style is captivating, drawing the reader in with vivid descriptions and suspenseful pacing. Overall, "No One Can Know" is a must-read for any fan of the genre, delivering suspense and excitement in equal measure.
Three sisters, two dead parents, unlimited secrets. No one knows the truth...or do they? When Emma and her husband move back to her childhood home and scene of her parents horrific murders because of financial reasons her husband quickly realizes that her hesitation has more to do than just the crime scene. The entire town thinks Emma is the murderer. Even Emma has no real memories of what really happened that night. She quickly learns that her presence has stirred up more memories than are safe for her or her family. This book is a slow burn, but it kept me interested and did not disappoint in the end. Enjoyable narration with a good pace.
No One Can Know was amazing. I loved the author’s book What Lies In the Woods. Karissa. Vacker is a top notch narrator. If you’re an audiobook fan, I would highly recommend listening to this one.
